Choosing Petco is a decision that often comes down to convenience, selection, and the range of services offered. What makes this store a worthwhile choice is its ability to serve a wide audience with diverse pet needs in one accessible location. The store's grooming salon, in particular, stands out as a high-quality service, with dedicated staff who receive praise for their skill and positive attitude. However, it is also important for customers to be aware of the varying experiences that can occur in such a large operation. One customer's review highlights a critical concern regarding the care of fish, mentioning issues with water quality and sick or dead fish. This suggests that while Petco offers a broad range of products, customers with specialized needs, such as aquatic pet owners, should exercise due diligence and be mindful of the conditions. Despite these potential inconsistencies, for general pet supplies, professional grooming, and the convenience of services like curbside pickup and onsite clinics, Petco provides a comprehensive solution for many pet owners in the Rhode Island area. Its scale and wide range of offerings make it a reliable and accessible resource for a majority of pet-related needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve taken my Bernedoodle to over 6 groomers, even done it myself, and the staff at the grooming salon here are incredible. Pepper has never been scared to enter the room (unlike other grooming places where she fully refuses -with all her 75lbs- to walk through the door) so I know they treat her kindly. The staff overall does an amazing job, and Dallalee in particular did a really really good job grooming her, managing to do exactly what I asked for without being condescending like a lot of groomers are. She was really skilled and kind and patient which I know my dog can be a bit stubborn sometimes. Not only a great personality, but they also just did a way better job than other groomers in the area aesthetically. It may not be named a “designer” salon, but I will definitely continue to go back here. Shoutout to everyone that works there, they’re clearly a team.
July 10 · Audrey MatthewsGoing to start off by saying the staff is very nice but fish parameters and water quality is very much not the Petco experience. This store needs to watch its water perimeter more often and check up on sick fish and dead fish. I’ve gone multiple times so this location and every time I visit this location there’s always dead fish multiple dead fish and the fish seem to be sick meaning the water parameters are not to their liking which needs to be improvised and accommodated for so that when buyers like myself go, they do not die the next day or the same day they purchased their fish because of the extreme water condition difference. They have been multiple occasions where I buy fish from this location and they die within a day or two while if I go to Petsmart in Johnston and purchase fish there, they Always last me years while this location always only seem to last a couple days unless the fish are new and they hadn’t yet gotten used to the water perimeter at that store and got used to my fish tank water, which I am very careful on monitoring and keep track of weekly and make weekly water changes and condition the water, and make sure all levels are in accommodatable rate for all Please do better yes these fish are complicated, but they are living organisms who need taken care of if we want them as pets. Remember, if you were a fish, you would want a human to take care of you the same way You take care of them.
August 17 · VictorThis is a review of my experience on Wednesday August 6 around 7pm.The 2 stars are for the kind young girl who waited on me at the register but the manager of this place really dropped the ball.I made sure to look at the rules prior to trying to return an opened Untouched bag of cat food my cat refused to eat. I met all the "requirements" for a return. The girl at the register greeted me kindly, told me I could return the food and asked me if there was something else I wanted to get. I said yes, and she suggested to go get it so the transaction could be done at one time...not a problem at all!I pick out my other food, go back to her (the place was practically empty of customers), and she informed me she couldn't scan my receipt because the barcode on it was ripped. I don't know if she actually tried or just assumed, I didn't see her scan it but she had it while I shopped. She askd me if I had the order under a phone number, which I didn't. She seemed embarrassed because she didn't know how to do a return with no phone number and a ripped barcode. So she called for the manager on a walkie talkie. Not a problem there either. When the manager finally got back to her and she told him the receipt was ripped he simply said "can't return it then". Super dismissive. It was clear he couldn't be bothered to actually do his job and just wanted the customer to go away. If I wasn't so tired after a long day I would have insisted on him coming to the front and discussing it... but I was exhausted, there was a few people waiting behind me and the poor girl was mortified.I didn't push the issue but was very annoyed. I had the ACTUAL receipt in full, the item was within the return rules and a store credit wasn't even offered because the manager clearly was lazy and didn't care at all about properly doing his job or customers.I politely left but was extremely frustrated. I went to a different location a DAY later... as I tried to return it at this other location I started to explain to the person at the Register the situation...they scanned the receipt no issue and actually told me there was no way that the other store even tried!I had to waste an entire hour and a half of my day commuting to another location just to get a return THAT SHOULD AND COULD have been done at this location when I was there. It's a disgrace that the manager couldn't do his job. Apparently doing a job right doesn't matter as long as he's getting paid.I'd recommend to get a new manager, he's clearly NOT invested in his work.
August 10 · Melodie ChaseIf I could give it a 0 I would :When I arrived, I was kindly greeted by the staff member responsible for check-in. She was very professional, compassionate, and did her best to answer my questions. I was asked whether one of my dogs might be pregnant, I said no because I was unsure and had previously been told that female dogs needed to have their period before that was possible. She handled my questions with patience and professionalism. However, during this interaction, the veterinarian—who was seated behind the desk with her legs crossed and using her phone—interrupted the conversation in a highly unprofessional and disrespectful manner. Without knowing my background or intent, she accused me of being “irresponsible” for not having my dogs spayed or neutered. I explained that I had rescued the dogs recently, they are only five months old, and I was at Petco specifically to seek guidance and education about proper care as a first-time pet owner.Instead of offering support or knowledge, the veterinarian continued speaking in an unprofessional and condescending tone. So I decided to not continue with my services and take my business elsewhere where. When I asked for her name so I could file a formal complaint, she refused to provide it, told me that it “didn’t matter” because “they aren’t going to fire [her] anyway,” and then proceeded to tell me to leave the store. She also told my daughter to “shut up,” which was completely unacceptable and uncalled for. She claimed I was causing a scene, but I had only asked questions and expressed dissatisfaction with the serviceHer communication was neither therapeutic nor educational—instead, it was judgmental and dismissive. As someone who is new to pet ownership, I found her behavior extremely discouraging and inappropriate for someone in her professional role.To my shock, she then falsely claimed that I had threatened her and escalated the situation by calling the police. I waited for the police to arrive and explained and got an incident # There were witnesses present, including the store manager and other staff, who confirmed that I made no threats and behaved appropriately.Frankly, I feel I was profiled and unfairly portrayed as aggressive—likely because of the color of my skin. Being treated as the “angry Black woman” stereotype was deeply hurtful and humiliating. Her actions were not only unprofessional, but they also caused me emotional distress and public humiliation.I respectfully request that this incident be reviewed thoroughly, including statements from those who witnessed the interaction. It is deeply concerning that a customer seeking help and education would be treated in such a way and then falsely accused and subjected to unnecessary police involvement. Especially in an environment that claims to care about animals and the people who love them. Please advise me of the actions Petco intends to take to address this matter.
May 05 · Beverly DeOliveira. Sometimes a mess when they move things. One time all the weruva cat food brand was in boxes in the island and I had to go through them and try and move an incredibly heavy cart to get what I needed.Another time I got a vital refrigerated dog food bag and I opened it and fit was already spoiled..expired the day before (I got through a DoorDash order)But the most annoying part about this store is the VETERINARY DEPARTMENT!THEY NEVER ANSWER THE PHONES! LITERALLY NEVER!Last time I went they had me wait in a freezing cold room for 2 hours with a very young kitten. They apologized for taking so long but it was the lack of knowing what was going on while freezing my butt off and wasting my time that really annoyed me. I eventually came out of the room to try to figure out what was going on and they said they are just waiting to get my prescription finished. I waited another 25 minutes after that waiting for them to check me out.. AND THEN I GET HOME AND THEY FORGOT THE IMPORTANT PRESCRIPCION IN THE BAG!!!So obviously I changed my vet office because the lack of customer service, empathy, and care there is infuriating! Also $69 for a poop sample?! Never been charged that much even at a real vets office.Would not recommend the vet department at all
