Choosing a veterinary hospital is a critical decision, and Grand Canyon Veterinary Hospital presents a mixed but valuable set of attributes for Santa Clarita pet owners. On the one hand, the clinic offers a broad range of services, from essential preventative care to specialized surgery and emergency services. The acceptance of flexible financing options like Care Credit and Scratch Pay is a significant advantage, providing peace of mind during expensive emergencies. The positive reviews praise the staff’s helpfulness and the clinic's ability to provide timely care, even on weekends. This shows that the hospital can be a reliable and caring partner for pet owners.
However, it is crucial to consider the negative feedback as well. A detailed review highlights serious concerns regarding professional conduct, communication, and a perceived lack of transparency from the veterinarian and their assistant. The experience of being pushed toward expensive surgery for a condition that a second opinion deemed minor is a major red flag that prospective clients should be aware of. The review suggests that while the front desk may be friendly, the medical communication and client experience from the veterinary team can be lacking, and clients may feel pressured.
For California pet owners, this means that while Grand Canyon Veterinary Hospital has the infrastructure, accessibility, and services to provide excellent care, it is vital to be an advocate for your pet. It is recommended to ask for clear explanations, get copies of all documentation before payment, and not hesitate to seek a second opinion if a diagnosis or treatment plan feels rushed or overly aggressive. The hospital’s 24/7-like hours and emergency care capabilities are a strong reason to consider them, but it is a relationship that requires active participation from the pet owner to ensure a positive outcome.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Worst experience I’ve ever experience at a veterinary hospital. I took my cat in because he was dealing with a UTI and wasn’t getting better. Trying to find a urgent appointment (our regular vet didn’t have any openings), Grand Canyon was available. When going in the receptionist was very friendly ( the only thing good about this experience). Once we went in to see the veterinarian, the only person who talked to me was his assistant, never once did he ask me questions or checked my cat in front of me. I told the assistant what my cat has been dealing with and what our regular veterinarian prescribed him. She was not really interested on my concern of my cat and mention just giving him more medication. I had a gut feeling that my cat was dealing with more pain then he should be so I asked for them to give him an xray. At this point they take my cat to take x-rays, once they got the x ray photos I finally meet the veterinarian (my cat was still in the back), he explains to me that my cat had stones (usually caused by bad diet) that are causing blockage for my cat to not use the restroom. He first told me that I had two options to either take medication to break those stones down or to do surgery. While he was explaining this to me he was very calm and made it sound like medication will help and my cat would be okay. He then left to have his assistant give me what the bill will be for the both options. When she came back in I notice that for the surgery was $8,000 and the medication was $2,000. I completely understand that having an animal it can be pricey, but since this wasn’t my regular vet I wasn’t comfortable making that decision without a second opinion. I kindly let the assistant know that I would like time to think about my options. She assumed I meant more time to think but I told her no I would like to have my cat back and weigh my options at home. She proceed to tell me that I’m making the wrong choice and that I should rethink what I was doing. That my cat is in much pain that these blockage can be bigger and can kill him at any moment. The way she was talking to me wasn’t needed during that moment, and at this point I called my sister being unsure want to do. When she came in again the assistant was the only person that talked to us and explained our options. Once she explained more about the medication option she pretty much told us it wouldn’t do anything cause he was in deep pain and that we should do the surgery. The assistant even went to details about putting our cat down if we couldn’t afford the surgery. At this point we still didn’t see the veterinarian and haven’t got my cat back. We had enough and told the assistant to give our cat back because we’re leaving! They made us sign a consent form that we were aware we were going against vets recommendation. The next day we went to our regular veterinarian and he let us know that yes our cat does have stones but that they are so minor that he doesn’t need surgery. That he doesn’t know why these people wanted to put my cat down when he’s only 3 years old, has good teeth and a great heart beat! And to the assistant that talked bad to us and said my cat wasn’t gonna live one more day, it’s been over a year and he’s living his best life on a well diet!
May 25 · Isabel AMy barn kitties needed exams/antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection, and I needed some place open on a Sunday. I called and spoke to Cameron who was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and she got us in immediately. The staff was kind and they helped my kitties make a full recovery. Cost was comparable to other vets which I didn’t mind. 10/10 recommend and I will definitely come back for future vet services
