Guardian Veterinary Specialists Introduce
When a beloved pet faces a serious health crisis or requires advanced medical attention, a pet owner's first priority is finding a facility that provides both expert care and genuine compassion. Guardian Veterinary Specialists, located in Brewster, New York, is a 24/7 veterinary hospital dedicated to emergency and critical care, as well as a wide range of advanced specialty services. Designed as a state-of-the-art facility, it serves pet owners and referring veterinarians throughout Putnam, Dutchess, Westchester, Orange, Rockland, and Bronx counties in New York, and even Fairfield County in Connecticut. The hospital’s mission is to say "yes" to helping as many pets as possible, providing a high level of medical expertise with a commitment to patient well-being. This overview will provide a factual look at the facility, its services, and what makes it a choice for pet owners seeking advanced care.
Guardian Veterinary Specialists is a facility of significant scale and capability. It is equipped with three surgery suites, 14 exam rooms, a sophisticated intensive care unit (ICU), and an isolation ward. These features are indicative of a hospital that is prepared to handle a wide variety of complex and critical cases. The facility also boasts comprehensive onsite diagnostic imaging capabilities, including MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and digital X-ray, which are crucial for rapid and accurate diagnoses. The presence of these technologies, along with a dedicated inpatient feline ward and a private comfort room for end-of-life care, shows a thoughtful approach to meeting diverse patient needs. The hospital is staffed by board-certified veterinary specialists, licensed veterinary technicians, and a trained support staff, ensuring that pets receive the highest quality of medical and surgical care in multiple disciplines. The hospital also supports local non-profit animal shelters and rescue groups by offering a generous discount on services.
While the hospital’s advanced capabilities are a key selling point, it is crucial for potential clients to understand that a specialized emergency and critical care facility operates differently from a family veterinarian. Patient intake is often based on the severity of the case, similar to a human emergency room, which can result in long wait times for non-critical cases. There have been instances where clients have expressed frustration with the wait times and the communication regarding costs, particularly in emergency situations. One review describes an eight-hour wait for a pet with a non-life-threatening but concerning injury, a situation that can be incredibly stressful for a pet owner. Another review highlights a significant miscommunication regarding a surgical estimate, leading to a difficult situation for a long-time customer. These experiences underscore the importance of clear, proactive communication from both the client and the hospital staff. Asking for a written estimate and confirming the severity of your pet's case upon arrival can help manage expectations and ensure a smoother process. While negative experiences, especially in high-stress emergency situations, can occur, the hospital's public responses and commitment to a professional environment are part of their ongoing effort to improve the client experience.

Guardian Veterinary Specialists Reviews
After being told my husky needed an extended stay and pay $15,000 or be euthanized I got him out a month ago. I was told he won’t eat, won’t drink water, does not respond after he was not offered food nor water. Happy to say I did not pay $15,000. Yes I paid over $7,000 to get him out of this hell after a one night stay. I was forced to in order to get him out, to avoid being euthanized. I am disgusted I ever brought him here. Happy to say he is THRIVING at home with loving care. He is able to walk, eat, drink, and jump on my bed. You were dead wrong about Hunter and should be sued for malpractice. These photos were taken tonight after his one night stay in June. He is a child to me and part of the family. Horrible the way this hospital only cares about money.
July 23 · Donna Richardson1/2 star 😭😭😭I give them half a star, I traveled an hour and a half because it was an emergency on Saturday July 19th I arrived at 10:30 pm, there were already like 5 patients waiting, in three hours they saw everyone and my dog was bleeding and they didn't care, two other dogs arrived and they saw them except my dog! I continued waiting another three hours at that time it was already 3 in the morning, I asked when would they see my dog? the receptionist says I'll go ask, he arrives and tells me now they will take your dog to the doctor, they took her and never came out to tell me anything. I waited another three hours, by that time it was 6 am on 7/20/25 and I asked again and the receptionist said that the doctor did not have time to see my dog. I told him this doesn't make sense to wait all night and not be able to see my patient, and I still asked him and how much longer will they see my dog? He said I don't know, what did I say!! And she tells me that the doctor has to talk to you about the price before treating the dog. I told her, you know what? Bring my dog, I'll take it with me. I left without them examining my little dog. This hospital has no compassion for animals, and because I'm Hispanic, it's worse. They thought I didn't speak English because I didn't say anything during the eight-hour wait. By giving them 5 stars, we all believe they're good at what they say they do. They're fake, they have no love for animals, only love of money 💰
July 29 · Carmen AguilarThe doctors and staff are helpful, efficient and trustworthy. I came to guardian for a second on opinion on my dog's chemotherapy treatment. Dr Berg explained his recommendations and steps we should take going forward. He was extremely patient and thorough in answering all my questions. I am grateful to him for recommending we stop chemo on my dog after she had been clear for 2.5 years. Our previous oncologist had wanted to keep her on for life. Thanks to Dr Berg, she is back to her old self and very happy!
May 19 · Mindy DePalmaThe entire staff was fantastic, but a special shoutout to Vet Tech Missi! She was truly amazing and turned what could have been a very stressful emergency visit for our puppy into a much more manageable experience. The comfortable waiting area also made the long wait feel significantly shorter and more pleasant.
February 26 · VioletI would like to thank Dr. Carla Pratdesaba for being an amazing doctor. I could not recommend her more. She helped me through the worst time when my cat was diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately had to cross the rainbow bridge. I cannot thank her enough for the love and care she showed for my sweet baby during her last hours. I would also like to thank the entire staff and especially those that helped with treating Marble and comforting me. Thank you all being the upmost considerate, caring and compassionate during such an awful time. Amazing office and I will be continuing to bring my pets to them.
