Choosing a veterinary hospital is one of the most important decisions a pet owner can make, and TLC Veterinary Hospital presents a complex picture for Massachusetts residents. The hospital’s website promotes a model of compassionate, full-service care with the convenience of same-day availability, which are all highly desirable qualities. The ability to handle everything from preventative wellness to emergency sick pet visits in one location is a major convenience for busy families. The hospital's focus on a calming environment is also a significant plus, as it can make a stressful experience much more manageable for both the pet and the owner.
However, the varied and, in some cases, very negative customer feedback is a crucial factor to consider. The reported issues with communication, bedside manner, and perceived gaps in care are serious. These reviews highlight the importance of open communication between the pet owner and the veterinary team. A pet owner must feel comfortable asking questions, seeking second opinions, and being an active participant in their pet's care plan. While a negative experience does not represent the entire hospital, it does serve as a reminder for potential clients to be their pet's best advocate. For New Bedford residents, TLC Veterinary Hospital could be a good fit for routine, straightforward care, but for complex or urgent medical issues, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the proposed treatment plan and to feel completely confident in the care provided. It is worth visiting the hospital to assess the environment and speaking with the staff to determine if their approach aligns with your expectations for your cherished pet's health.

TLC Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Brought my very sick kitten in- have to say the front desk staff were kind and caring. Vet gave little communication with me, cold, poor bedside manner. My kittens bloodwork came back and WBC was so high vet said he hadn't ever seen such high numbers in all of his career, stated my kitten was "like he was septic." But that wasnt cause for emergent IV fluids and introvenois antibiotics. Asked if he ate anything bad, i wasnt sure of anything toxic but my kitten must have gotten into something! Was vomitting and constipated. Vet did xray and suggested ultrasound but no blockage was seen and something wasnt sitting right with me. I felt his sickness was not due to blockage but due to ingesting something toxic. Vet mentioned intenstines looking funny but said could be from dehydration. My kittens BUN level was very high as well. I passed on the u/s and decided to give antibiotics a try. So many issues with my encounter. 1st of all, I was sent off with ammoxcillin. No nausea meds. No fluids I/V or under the skin even after being requested, esp after BUN level so high. Sent home to give a throwing up kitten liquid antibiotics and probiotics. A kitten severely dehydrated. I was given 3 packets of hydracare and expected for my throwing up kitten to drink and hold down that for hydration. Absolutely appalling. Next I had to ASK for an enema as I was leaving!!! My poor kitten was severely constipated and they weren't even going to give him anything. My cat was in its carrier to go already and I had to stop and go back and ask for my cat to have stool relief. They dosed him with an enema and stuck him back in my carrier to leave. I had to ask for something to line the bottom of the carrier in case passed stool on the way home and he did. But they didnt watch him to make sure he safely got it all out. The ammox helped a bit but as soon as the course was over he was back to throwing up again. Brought to second vet where they decided my cat needed much stronger antibiotics. It was there I learned the way the Vet cared for my kitten was extremely careless and inhumane. I spent over $600 for a pathetic check up without any emergent live saving efforts while being there. My kitten did NOT have a blockage! Thank goodness I stuck to my gut intuition. He was put on ammox-clav and he was back to his playful healthy self in 10 days! He is now fully recovered and thriving! I am so thankful for that second vet and I will never ever step foot in this place again.
August 27 · Katelyn CarvalhoI have had 4 experiences with TLC veterinary hospital. Two of which deserve a one-star rating and two of which deserve a three-star rating. The basic problem here is a communication issue. My last experience was the worst. I made an appointment to see the doctor and was greeted by a technician and told that I couldn't see the doctor. The technician administered $100 injection that was pointless and useless. The technician was rude and for that reason I will never go back.
June 14 · Joseph ReinThe doctor is great. Took both of my cats when no one would. Staff is extremely nice. They were so gentle too. I am so glad they are my vet
August 10 · jennifer dedeusThey seemed nice I guess but something seemed uneasy. The end fee was NOT cheap to see a loved animal ending up destroyed. On the next day was a simple question but this former patient was not easy to look up. This place is not like before.I admit I have not bee there for some 10 years with my last pet.
March 01 · leisha brumI thought I needed to share my letter to the Mass Licensing Board. Please advise on TLC Veterinary Clinic, New Bedford MA:I have had 4 female dogs in my 50 plus years of life. They are like my children and the aforementioned clinic has some practices that need to be looked at.Today I brought my 6 and a half month old female cockapoo, Sophie, in to be spayed. I was told to bring her at 12:30 pm and then pick her up before 5 pm because they close at 5 pm. I arrived at 4:30 and was told she wasn't ready. I asked if she was okay and was told she was fine. The staff treated me like I was some kind of crazy person to have any concern. The vet came out at 4:45 and told me to come back at 5:30. I asked why and he replied that he hadn't even begun the procedure. I said "you are going to sedate my dog, operate and give her to me in 45 minutes?". Next, I was told that this procedure was done on "wagons". I said not to my dogs. Please give me my dog back. I got my dog and left.I have had 4 dogs spayed and never have I seen this practice. Unfortunately, I am new to this area and picked a vet at random. This type of practice cannot be tolerated. I along with millions of Americans am a responsible pet owner who loves and adores my furbaby. I have to wonder what the $500 or $600 dollars was for. A 45 minute drive through sedation and surgery. Please look into the practices at this clinic.
