Washington Street Veterinary Service - Libby Nesvold DVM Introduce
For pet owners in Morristown and the surrounding areas of New Jersey, finding a reliable and compassionate veterinary service is essential for ensuring the health and happiness of their animal companions. Washington Street Veterinary Service, under the care of Dr. Libby Nesvold DVM, is a well-known local practice that serves as both a veterinarian's office and an animal hospital. This combination of services provides a comprehensive approach to pet health, from routine check-ups to more urgent and specialized care. In a bustling community like Morristown, having a trusted veterinary team that is both skilled and empathetic can make all the difference during moments of concern for your pet’s well-being.
The bond between a pet and its owner is unique, and when a pet becomes sick or injured, the ability to quickly get a professional opinion and care is paramount. The feedback from some members of the community highlights the importance of this responsiveness, with one customer expressing deep gratitude for the practice’s willingness to see their cat for an emergency on short notice. This quick action and readiness to help, especially for new clients, can foster a sense of trust and relief that is invaluable. It speaks to a commitment to animal welfare that goes beyond standard business hours and appointment schedules, creating a powerful sense of a "small family practice full of love," as one reviewer noted.
However, it is also important for local residents to be aware of the full spectrum of experiences others have had. Some negative feedback from the community suggests that there have been challenges with the thoroughness of diagnostic procedures and the communication of treatment plans. A review from a dissatisfied customer described a situation where a cat's illness was potentially misdiagnosed, leading to a delay in getting a correct diagnosis from another clinic. This kind of feedback underscores the importance of a detailed and comprehensive approach to veterinary medicine, where all possible tests and avenues are explored to ensure the best outcome for the pet. It is vital for pet owners to feel confident that their veterinarian is being proactive and meticulous in their care.
Located conveniently at 158 Washington St, Morristown, NJ 07960, USA, Washington Street Veterinary Service is well-positioned for local residents. The practice’s location on a major street in Morristown makes it easily accessible for those driving in the area. A key aspect of its accessibility is the wheelchair accessible parking lot, which ensures that clients with mobility challenges can visit the clinic comfortably. This feature demonstrates a thoughtful consideration for the needs of all members of the community, making it a more inclusive and welcoming environment.
The location’s proximity to local neighborhoods means that it can be a quick and convenient stop for routine visits or an easily reachable destination during a pet's emergency. The central address in Morristown means that clients from a wide radius in Morris County can get to the animal hospital with relative ease. For pet owners in New Jersey, knowing that a professional and accessible veterinary service is nearby provides a great deal of comfort and security. The availability of accessible parking is a small but important detail that makes a significant difference for many visitors.
As a combination veterinarian and animal hospital, Washington Street Veterinary Service offers a range of services designed to care for your pet throughout its life. While specific details on every service may vary, the general types of care provided by such facilities typically include:
- Veterinary Services: This encompasses routine wellness exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and general health check-ups. These are the cornerstones of preventative medicine, helping to keep pets healthy and catch potential issues early.
- Animal Hospital: The "animal hospital" designation suggests that the facility is equipped to handle more serious medical conditions. This can include diagnostic imaging (such as X-rays), surgical procedures (like spaying, neutering, and other operations), dental care, and hospitalization for more complex cases.
The practice's capacity to serve as both a standard vet and an animal hospital means that pet owners can often receive a wide range of care under one roof, providing continuity in their pet's health journey.
Several features and highlights contribute to the overall experience at Washington Street Veterinary Service:
- Accessibility: The clinic provides a wheelchair accessible parking lot, making it easier for clients with mobility issues to access the facility.
- Amenities: A restroom is available on-site for the convenience of clients.
- Planning: Appointments are recommended to ensure timely service and minimize wait times. This allows the staff to prepare for each patient and provide focused, individual care.
For pet owners in New Jersey, the recommendation to book appointments is a key detail. It indicates a structured and organized approach to patient care, which can be reassuring for those who want to ensure their pet is seen promptly. The presence of a restroom is a simple amenity that adds to the comfort of the client while they wait.

When choosing a veterinary practice, local residents in New Jersey weigh many factors. Washington Street Veterinary Service offers the combination of a convenient location, basic accessibility features, and the capacity to handle both routine and more serious medical needs. The practice’s willingness to see a new client on an emergency basis, as mentioned in a positive review, demonstrates a level of responsiveness that is highly valued by pet owners. This ability to act quickly in a crisis is a major factor that can influence a pet owner’s decision.
However, the critical feedback about a lack of thoroughness in diagnostics is a serious consideration. Pet owners must feel confident that their veterinarian is exploring every possible angle to ensure an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. The discrepancy in reviews suggests that while some clients have had positive and grateful experiences, others have felt that the care was lacking in certain areas. It is important for potential clients to consider their own needs and priorities when evaluating this practice. While it provides the benefit of an animal hospital in a convenient location, it is a place where prospective clients may need to be proactive in communicating their concerns and advocating for their pet's care.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1After my regular vet failed to return phone calls and seemed to have too busy of a practice to take care of my cat's eye emergency, Dr. Nesvold was recommended to me. Although I had never been to this practice, they were willing to see me an hour after I called. I brought all my medical records and switched to Washington Street Vet. Services today! So grateful! Small family practice full of love!
July 13 · Short Hills Club PilatesIf I could give this place zero stars I would. My cat was sick for a few months and I brought her to this vet. I told them what was wrong with her and they only asked for a urine sample, they did not take blood or run any additional test. I spent 1000 dollars on medication for the cat because they told me it was an infection. After a month of medication she has no improvement. I called back to let them know and their only suggestion was another round of antibiotics (which clearly didn't work the first time) they didn't ask me to bring her back in or suggest any other test. I finally went to another vet today to find out my female cat is actually a male and that he has kidney failure, which if caught earlier maybe something could have been done. The lack of thoroughness and a plain laziness makes me sick. Do not ever bring your animal here if you care for their well-being. I would NEVER recommend this vet to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

August 03 · antea rrushiAbsolutely fantastic experience for an emergency visit. One of my dogs had a mysterious rash & was biting & scratching himself raw. Regular vet could not make time & said about 2wks for appt, ER vet said to come & check in but then said I had to wait in car & they would call in 4-5hrs. I called Washington Street Veterinary & they were kind enough to see my dog within the hour, efficiently diagnosed & treated for allergic reaction. They gave me meds & shampoo & scheduled a follow up for a week. Had a third follow up with shot again. Each visit was pleasant & efficient, so much so that while I really like my old vet that practice is too busy & hard to get appts & lots of waiting past appt time so I will make Washington Street my new animal care provider. Excellent service each visit

November 02 · Thursa HylandPET OWNERS BEWARE!!! I took my dog here, BIG MISTAKE but I was desperate to find her help and work in Morristown. Had no idea I would be taken advantage of…. Definitely going to make sure this place is investigated. Brought my dog here because she has been sick, never got to actually talk to or meet the “veterinarian”. This place uses Covid as an excuse to not provide proper care…. Says it’s “curbside only” and they take your dog in. They took my dog inside for 7 minutes MAX and said she was perfectly fine and took a fecal sample I had brought in (which I was over charged for) they told me my dog had 2 parasites and prescribed her medications that was she unable to take. After she lost a tremendous amount of weight and I couldn’t get her to take the medication I assumed she needed I consulted Flanders vet clinic who was AMAZING and got me in right away. Allowed me to meet the doctor that took his time examining my dog and looked at her wondering which was the best route to start on without causing her more stress. They called this Morristown vet asking for the records and stated I needed to call. When I called the girl said “the doctor wants to know what your doing at another vet and what are you going to have done?” After I explained it was my their business, please send the records, the only sent the invoice’s (which I already had with me). After a day passed by with the vet continuously calling asking for the records and not getting them, I just offered to bring the vet a new fecal sample to just get the process going and get my dog on the right track since she hadn’t eaten for 5 days and I’m extremely concerned at this point. Well, the results came back and we’re completely negative so Morristown ghetto vet fake diagnosed my dog and provided poor care which resulted in my dog getting more sick. If anything further happens to my dog I am holding this vet completely responsible for fraudulent charges and diagnoses. Sorry I don’t have any photos of this run down clinic and the dog feces all over the steps.

June 28 · Haley DominguezMy dog was a patient there for a few years for the basics shots etc. Then he had an issue his face was slightly swollen on one side and he def. was in some sort of discomfort. I took my dog in for an emergency appt. they basically said he may have an eye infection cleaned his eyes with water and gave me meds. once home my dog was sliding his face over every and anything he could. Turns out he had an abscess that he made burst from his sliding and he had a tooth issue. If the Vet would have examined him like they charged me they would have found this out. I had to take my dog for emergency oral surgery that evening. Done with this place forever!!!!
