My partner and I started a fish tank as newbies, and unfortunately after introducing a new plant, every single fish died. I was so sad and wanted help but I was nervous to call Petco because I wasn’t sure what kind of reaction I would get. Ashley was EXTREMELY kind and sympathetic. She answered all of my questions and even when she educated me on some ways we went wrong with our tank it felt really kind. I feel way more confident for my second try with fish buddies. April 10 · Rouge CosmeticsI bought some fish for our aquarium over the weekend. Normally I do well at this location as there are two knowledgeable employees that typically work the fish area. Not this day though. A young guy was there and he couldn’t net the fish to save his own life. After several minutes of trapping and mashing a couple of them into the gravel and the corner of the tank, he bagged them. I was suspect of whether they were injured but brought them home anyway.Sadly, and not surprisingly, one fish died within a day. He never joined the school of others and didn’t eat when it was feeding time. I returned it to the store to get a replacement. Amazingly, I was told that they can give me a refund, but will not sell me any more fish until I bring them a water sample so they can determine that my aquarium water is safe. Huh? Fish police? I am all but certain that this poor guy met his demise because of the beating he took by the employee, not because my water parameters were off (they aren’t). If Petco is so concerned about fish welfare, they would not still be selling beta’s out of cup. That is the most inhumane practice going in fish keeping. At any rate, apparently the burden is on me if I want the pleasure of buying more fish at this location. No thanks, I am taking my business up the road to the competitor.
