Introduction / Overview
For pet owners in Salem, New Hampshire, finding a reliable and comprehensive veterinary practice is essential for maintaining the health and happiness of their animal companions. Banfield Pet Hospital, located in the Tuscan Village area, is a well-known name in veterinary care, providing a range of medical services designed to support a pet’s wellness throughout their life. This facility functions as both an animal hospital and a veterinary pharmacy, offering convenience and a variety of care options in one location. The hospital's services are aimed at providing everything from routine preventative care and vaccinations to more complex general surgery and diagnostics. They also offer an on-site pharmacy, which simplifies the process of obtaining necessary medications and treatments for your pet. While a major corporate veterinary chain, the Salem location aims to provide compassionate care to the local community. They are committed to providing services for dogs and cats. They also provide comprehensive diagnostic testing through their in-house laboratory, which aids in the rapid and accurate diagnosis of various conditions, from gastrointestinal illnesses to orthopedic concerns. It is important for potential clients to be aware of the hospital's specific operational model, as recent changes have impacted the client experience. The facility is committed to being an LGBTQ+ friendly space, fostering an inclusive environment for all pet owners in the community. Their dedication to providing medical and pharmaceutical services for pets is a key part of their value proposition in the local area.
Location and Accessibility
Banfield Pet Hospital is situated at 12 S Village Dr, Unit 400, in Salem, NH 03079, USA. This location places it in the popular Tuscan Village development, making it a familiar and easily accessible destination for local residents. The area is a hub for retail and services, and the clinic's location within it adds a layer of convenience for pet owners. The hospital is committed to being accessible to all clients. It features a wheelchair accessible entrance, a wheelchair accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair accessible restroom, ensuring that all pet owners can comfortably bring their animals in for care. This thoughtful approach to physical accessibility demonstrates a commitment to serving the entire community. When planning a visit, it is important to be aware of the clinic’s current operational policies. The hospital operates on an appointment-based system, and while they do accept some appointments, recent changes have led to a greater reliance on "drop-off" appointments. This means pets may need to be left at the clinic for a period of time to be seen. While this model is intended to help the clinic manage patient flow, it has been a point of concern for some clients. For this reason, it is always recommended to call ahead and confirm the best way to schedule an appointment that fits your needs. The hospital is very open about the fact that they are sometimes short-staffed and have a high volume of patients, which can lead to longer wait times. Being prepared for these realities is an important part of the client experience. Despite some logistical challenges, the location's prominence and accessibility features make it a viable option for many pet owners in the Salem area.

What is worth choosing
Choosing Banfield Pet Hospital in Salem, NH, is a decision that comes with both distinct advantages and certain considerations. On the one hand, the clinic offers a comprehensive range of services that make it a convenient and practical choice for pet owners. The presence of an on-site veterinary pharmacy is a significant benefit, allowing for immediate access to necessary medications without a separate trip. The hospital is also equipped with modern diagnostic tools like digital radiography and an in-house lab, which can lead to faster and more accurate diagnoses. For those who value a consistent, structured approach to pet health, the availability of wellness plans can make budgeting for preventative care more manageable. The clinic's commitment to being an LGBTQ+ friendly space also contributes to a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the community. On the other hand, it is crucial for prospective clients to be aware of the recent changes to their operational model. The shift towards a drop-off appointment system has been a source of frustration for some long-standing clients, who miss the ability to be present with their pets during exams and are concerned about the length of time their animals spend in kennels. The high patient volume and staff turnover mentioned in reviews can lead to a less personalized experience and longer wait times. However, for those with flexible schedules who prioritize advanced diagnostics and the convenience of a one-stop location for veterinary services and medication, Banfield Pet Hospital remains a strong option. It is most suitable for pet owners who are comfortable with the corporate model of veterinary care and are able to adapt to the clinic’s scheduling protocols, allowing them to benefit from the modern facilities and comprehensive services offered.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1They have grown too big for themselves to handle. I’ve been a customer for 16 years. And due to the fact they keep taking on more pets with limited staff. And who knows what’s going on inside the place because they can’t keep doctors. It’s a revolving door. And because they can’t keep up with all their patients they stripped me of my ability to bring my dogs in for a normal appointment and requiring them to be drop off appointments where they crate your pet ALL DAY for routine shots! After watching this place leave helpless animals crated inside during a fire drill while they all evacuated to safety I absolutely refuse to leave my pets in their care in crates all day like that. I will be canceling all my plans and taking my pets to better more stable environment. It’s not worth the couple dollars you might save. Most vets are same prices this place just spreads the costs out over monthly installments. They aren’t worth it anymore. The current leadership is terrible and I wouldn’t trust any pet with him.
May 31 · Sandra AliceaWhen Banfield was located in the Salem, NH PetSmart, we had nothing but great things to say about the company. However, ever since they moved into the Tuscan Village location, the Banfield front desk customer service, organization, and willingness to make the pets feel comfortable his significantly diminished. I had an appointment at 3:30pm on a Wednesday; I like to be with my dogs in the exam room to make sure they're not as stressed and so I can ask the doctor questions about my dog's health as they are being looked at. I got a call a few days before the appointment saying that they only offer drop-offs between 8:30am-9:00am. I have done drop-offs with Banfield in the past and had them specifically make a note on my file that we are firmly against dropping them off in the morning. Most times, we don't get a call until early afternoon to pick them up, which means they sit in a kennel all day. However, they need their vaccines/check-up, so I brought them in for a drop-off anyway. This experience was abysmal! I walked into Banfield right at 8:30am and had to wait about 10 minutes to check in because there were 10+ dogs in the waiting room with their owners. The Tuscan Village location has a small reception area, so I didn't have many places to stand with my 2 dogs. To be clear, the check-in process at Banfield just means you have your pet weighed, and they tell the techs in the back that your pet is there; You still have to wait for them to clear a room to start the drop-off process. Once I checked them in, I waited until 9:05 without them taking my dogs. You would assume a "drop-off" is a quick process where you're in and out, but there were still a few people before me waiting to be taken in. I ended up asking to reschedule because I needed to get to work. When I called to reschedule, the receptionist told me that they are ONLY offering drop-offs until further notice. The receptionists weren't even able to answer phone calls since they were so busy. There was an owner waiting outside with her dog (she said her dog doesn't like being around other dogs, which is completely understandable), and she was trying to call the front desk to figure out what to do, but they never picked up, so she was essentially stranded outside with her pet waiting for service. If you are thinking about joining Banfield for your pets, just know you will not be able to sit with your pet while the exam is going on. What upsets me is that having 10+ dogs in the small waiting room for a drop-off is just asking for a dog fight to happen. This location is way over capacity for the amount of staff and space they have. Everyone in the waiting room with me was in agreement that the drop-off process they have has no structure, feels uncomfortable for the dogs and owners, and puts our pets in an unnecessarily dangerous situation. The receptionists kept telling me, "We only offer drop-offs for the amount of staff we have in the back." It seriously makes me think about the lack of care my dogs are getting being kept in a kennel all day since they are so short-staffed. I have been a Banfield customer for 8 years, but the past few experiences at the Salem, NH location is making me consider other veterinary practices all together. This drop-ff model is embarrassing and has no organization or care for the animals/customers.TL;DR:- Banfield Salem, NH only offers drop-offs in the mornings with no options for appointments where the owner can be with their pet- The waiting room is small and 10+ dogs were anxiously waiting to be dropped of which is asking for a dog fight to happen- I waited ~40 minutes without my dogs being taken by staff- Multiple people (including myself) walked out because our pets were not seen in a timely manner- They are very open about being short staffed and makes me concerned about the actual care my dogs are getting in the back all day waiting to be seen
June 25 · Zac ChupkaNot to be rude to anybody who owns a pet, but I strongly believe that a pet & the owner's best interests are not being served by visiting an establishment like this. I contacted them to schedule a 1st new customer appointment and was informed that the initial appointment is drop-off only, with no guarantee as to when they would actually examine my dog. I struggled to understand why the owner's presence was not deemed necessary for the initial appointment. Numerous questions arose, such as how the dog would be cared for throughout the day and how the establishment could accurately assess the dog's behavior without the owner's input. The front desk appears to be managed in a manner reminiscent of a puppy mill, and the establishment seems to prioritize financial gain over animal welfare. I promptly informed them that I would not be bringing my dog to their facility. It is difficult for me to imagine that any pet owner would willingly drop off their dog for an initial visit without first meeting the veterinarian, staff, and viewing the accommodations. Simply dropping off the dog without proper introduction and care is unacceptable. Needless to say, I will not be utilizing their services.
July 08 · Wicked WildAll folks there are wonderful! I couldn't be more pleased. Informative, polite, genuinely interested in my dogs care. I recommend the service to all folks I know.
April 04 · Liam Holt (Smiles For Sonny)Embarrassing service. Had an appointment scheduled for 2 weeks, got my cat into the vets room, for them to say “We’ll call you in about an hour!” Went about my day for an hour and 20 mins, for them to not call. Was a little perplexed. So, I went to the office, for the nice front desk attendant to say she “hasn’t been looked at” !! So, what were they doing that whole time? No excuse for a place like this to be in business. Go elsewhere, for your animals sake. These tuscan based companies have been a terrible thing for the town of Salem. A shame, truly.
