July 17 · Anabelle VillanuevaDr. Seiss is amazing - she's very empathetic and thorough. I know my girls are in safe, comfortable and great hands when they're in her care. She's gentle, extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Wonderful beside manner. She goes over estimates with you and provides plenty of options. The staff are also very friendly. I appreciate the Thrive Membership option as I've been in a few times now and it really helps with costs. I've been able to get in each time without any issues and without booking too far in advance which is rare at a vet. My only wish is they were open on the weekends!
June 07 · Colleen CarlsenOn June 2, 2025, our family was forever broken. Our beloved Casper was killed during a routine dental cleaning procedure under supervision of Dr. Norma Rios. Casper was a 7-year-old Pomeranian and full of energy. He had this procedure done with no problems in the past. He had normal labs and a normal physical exam. We brought him to the clinic a healthy dog, and we took our baby home in a body bag. He had no medical issues warranting an increased risk for anesthesia complications. The passing of our beloved baby has left a devastating void in our hearts. Our last moment with Casper was looking at his scared face and telling him "Don't worry baby. Everything is going to be ok." We trusted the clinic and left him not knowing we would never see him alive again. A few hours later we got the worst phone call of our lives from the manager, and we rushed to the hospital to see the lifeless body of our baby with the endotracheal tube still in place in his mouth. My partner and I both provide anesthesia, and we just could not accept that our baby passed away because of “adverse effects” from anesthesia when he had general anesthesia with no problems twice in the past. He was healthy and should have no issues handling general anesthesia if the anesthesia care was up to quality standards. We were told that Casper passed away shortly after being induced for general anesthesia, and they could not get a pulse oximeter (oxygen level) reading, causing his heart to eventually stop. The only explanation for this (as an anesthesia provider myself), is that the airway was not secured properly and the proper safety standards were not implemented. While anesthesia does carry some risk, healthy animals do not die after being induced for anesthesia unless there is substandard care. Furthermore, we were told that Dr. Rios was not present to assess Casper until after Casper’s heart had stopped. A vet tech named Alex was providing the anesthesia, and Dr. Rios was not even aware Casper was decompensating until it was too late. This is absolutely unacceptable. We trusted her to keep our baby safe, and her carelessness and downright negligence contributed to the death of our sweet baby. I can’t imagine what could be more important than ensuring your patient is safely induced for general anesthesia. It is absolutely unacceptable that a completely healthy and active dog goes in for a routine procedure and ends up dead without any tangible explanation. Worst of all, when we went to pick up our baby’s dead body, there were virtually no signs of genuine remorse from the staff. They just had a healthy dog die unexpectedly under their care, and not one person even shed a single tear.I feel obligated to leave this review to warn pet owners that our beloved baby died at this facility. I want Casper's death to be a lesson for the clinic and Dr. Rios to improve their quality of care so no one will ever experience what we are experiencing. My partner and I wake up every night crying and wishing this would just be a nightmare. The voice "Casper passed away under general anesthesia" and the image of Casper's lifeless body with the endotracheal tube in his mouth will forever haunt us. I do not know when this nightmare is going to end, but I wish no pet owner will ever have to endure this kind of devastation.
June 23 · Ryan ConahanDr. Seiss was extremely thorough and kind. Everything you’d want in a vet and more. She was very kind and gentle with our very shy cat. We’ve been going there for almost 30 years!
August 28 · Lisa HagmaierI have entrusted the health of dozens of cats who have passed through my life over the DECADES I've been a client of Dr. Norma Rios and Bay Cities Pet Hospital. As pet parents know, a trip to the vet can be an ordeal, because...cats, carriers, cars.. . that's the hard part. It's almost always smooth sailing once I'm there. Starting with the front office staff like Emily, and on through the actual exam, Dr. Rios and staff are so compassionate and so competent that I feel as well cared for as I know my cats are. With the obvious exception of having a sick kitty, visiting with Doc Norma and team is a delight.
