This review is specifically about our experience with euthanasia at this hospital, specifically conducted with MASH outpatient oncology (Dr. Dicovitsky and her team). This was our first time having to make the difficult decision to say goodbye to our sweet cat, Cubby, and I hope it may help others facing this incredibly awful decision. We knew nothing about the process and if we knew what we did yesterday during our experience, we would have gone somewhere else to say goodbye to him.Cubby saw Dr. Dicovitsky for a consult when he was first diagnosed with lymphoma last week. She was comforting and knowledgable, and mentioned when it was time to say goodbye she could do it at MASH. On Sunday, we called to make our appointment for Monday with Dr. Dicovitsky for euthanasia. On our call, we asked the front desk if we could receive an estimate on the cost of euthanasia (we have paid so much to MASH already for his treatment while he was sick, and we wanted to be prepared so we weren't shocked with the price during such a painful time). The front desk assured us that they would email us the estimate ahead of our appointment. This email never came.On the day of, we hoped for a gentle environment to say goodbye to Cubby. Instead, we waited in the waiting room 10-15 minutes before being brought up to the room. The room brought no comfort, it was the small dermatology room with the bright lights and where the walls are so thin that you can hear everyone's conversation and laughter outside. There were no tissues in the room. We had to ask the doctor for tissues as we were already crying. After about 5 minutes of waiting, a technician came in to tell us about the packages they offer. I forget the details of the first two packages, but for about $50-$150 you don't get the remains of the animal back. There is one package where you do get the remains + a paw print + nose print delivered to you for $275. Because we wanted our boy's remains, this was our only option. On top of this, we needed to pay $150 for a "consult - oncology recheck" with the doctor. I don't know why we needed to pay this, he was not examined. She did not consult with us. She only performed the euthanasia. You also pay $285 for "Euthanasia + IVC", $32.67 for "no charge euth + propotol", and 8.86 for "Medical Waste Disposal Fee". In total, we needed to pay $751.53 to say goodbye to our cat. I'm not sure how much other places are, but this cost seems absolutely bonkers. We signed the paper because at this point, we were already there and he was already in pain. We had no other choice. After 5 more minutes, another technician came in the room as we're weeping. All she said was "I'm here to collect payment".Shortly after, another technician came to collect Cubby to bring him in the back and put in the catheter. After about 5 minutes, she came in with the catheter on his back leg and put him on the table (we brought our own blanket - they provide their own but it made it so much more comfortable for our cat to use our own). I thought he would have been sedated, but instead he was anxious and tried to jump down from the table. I begged one of the technicians to call the doctor in right away because instead of it being a calm environment, he was scared.Dr. Dicovitsky came in about 5 minutes later to perform the euthanasia (one injection is like anasthesia and makes them go into a deep sleep, the other injection stops their heart). She was the nicest part of this experience, which is why we wanted to make the appointment with her in the first place. However, we strongly believe that any other non-MASH vet office would have made this devastating experience a little more comforting. If you're needing to make this same decision, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a humane act of love for our suffering loved ones, but that doesn't make it any easier. - Daisy & Viktor
