Pet Assistance, Inc. Introduce
For pet owners across Connecticut, facing a sudden medical emergency with a beloved animal can be one of the most stressful and difficult experiences. Beyond the emotional toll, the financial burden of urgent veterinary care can be overwhelming, often leading to heartbreaking choices. In these moments of crisis, a unique organization in New Preston, CT, stands as a vital resource for the community. Pet Assistance, Inc. is not a traditional veterinary clinic but rather a non-profit that offers financial assistance and expert advice to pet owners who are struggling to afford emergency veterinary services. This article is designed to provide a clear, engaging, and informative overview of this essential service for local residents, highlighting its role in keeping families and their pets together, even during life-threatening situations.
Pet Assistance, Inc.'s mission is rooted in the belief that no pet should have to be surrendered, abandoned, or euthanized solely because its owner cannot afford the cost of urgent medical care. They operate with a deep sense of compassion, understanding that the bond between a person and their pet is invaluable. This is a business that truly cares about what matters, offering guidance and financial support to those in need. While the experience may vary, as with any service that manages high-stress, emotional situations, the core mission is always to help. The organization aims to fill the gap between what a pet owner can afford and the often-exorbitant costs of emergency veterinary procedures.
Their work goes beyond simply providing funds. As one customer review powerfully illustrates, the organization also offers a listening ear and open-minded, thorough advice that can make a difficult situation feel more manageable. They take the time to offer information and referrals, sometimes even helping to find more affordable veterinary hospitals. This holistic approach to support—combining financial aid with compassionate counseling—makes Pet Assistance, Inc. a unique and invaluable partner for Connecticut residents facing a pet-related crisis.
Pet Assistance, Inc. is located at Box 2015, New Preston, CT 06777, USA. This address is a P.O. Box, indicating that the organization does not operate a physical clinic or storefront for walk-in services. Instead, their operations are handled remotely, likely through phone calls and online applications, which makes their services accessible to pet owners throughout Connecticut and beyond, regardless of their specific location in the state. This model is perfectly suited to their mission of providing emergency financial aid, as it allows them to assist people from all corners of the state and even across the country.
The nature of their services means physical accessibility features like a wheelchair-accessible parking lot and restroom, as noted in the provided information, refer to their headquarters or a physical meeting location that is not the primary point of contact for service. For pet owners in a moment of crisis, the primary mode of interaction with Pet Assistance, Inc. would be virtual or over the phone, removing the need for physical travel. This accessibility is a key part of their service model, as it ensures that anyone in need can reach out without the added burden of travel. The convenience of being able to contact them from anywhere is a significant feature for someone in the midst of a pet emergency, when time is of the essence.
Emergency Veterinary Financial Assistance: The core service of Pet Assistance, Inc. is to subsidize emergency veterinary care for pets of people in financial need. This help is specifically for urgent or life-threatening emergencies, such as a urinary blockage, ingestion of a foreign object, or a life-threatening injury.
Expert Advice and Guidance: A crucial part of their service is the compassionate advice and guidance they provide. As highlighted in a customer review, staff members take the time to listen, understand the situation, and offer thorough, open-minded advice. This can include guidance on pet care and referrals to other resources, which can often save pet owners thousands of dollars.
Application and Screening Process: The organization manages a formal application process to assess the urgency, prognosis, and financial need of each case. They require a written estimate from a veterinarian to ensure that their funds are used effectively and to confirm that the case is a genuine emergency.
Emergency Referral Services: The organization helps pet owners navigate the often-confusing landscape of emergency veterinary care by offering referrals to more affordable hospitals or specialists. This service is essential for people who are under duress and need help finding the most cost-effective solution for their pet's needs.
Advocacy and Education: Beyond direct assistance, Pet Assistance, Inc. works to educate the public on preventing "economic euthanasia" and "economic amputation," which occur when a pet is euthanized or a limb is removed solely because the owner cannot afford the necessary medical care. Their mission is to keep pets in their homes and ensure that love takes precedence over money.
A Non-Profit with a Clear Mission: As a non-profit organization, their focus is on providing assistance rather than generating profit. This core mission means that every decision is made with the best interest of the pet and their owner in mind, ensuring that the aid they provide is both compassionate and impactful. They operate with a deep commitment to their purpose of helping animals in crisis.
Compassionate and Understanding Support: The personal stories from customers underscore the kindness and empathy of the staff. One reviewer's experience with a "kind woman who picked up the phone" highlights the emotional support and understanding provided, which can be just as valuable as financial aid during a difficult time. This compassionate approach is a hallmark of their service.
Focus on Urgent and Life-Threatening Cases: Pet Assistance, Inc. has a clear and focused mission to help with true emergencies. By concentrating their limited funds on life-threatening situations, they can make a significant difference in saving pets that would otherwise have no hope. This specialization makes them a critical resource for the Connecticut community.
Accessibility through Remote Operations: The P.O. Box address signifies a service model that is not confined to a physical location. This remote operation makes their services accessible to anyone in Connecticut who can make a phone call or fill out an online application, ensuring that location is not a barrier to receiving help in a crisis.
Financial and Informational Aid: The organization offers a dual-pronged approach to assistance. They not only provide financial grants but also offer invaluable advice and direction that can lead to significant cost savings. This combination of monetary and informational support empowers pet owners to make the best decisions for their pets' health and their own financial situation.

Pet Assistance, Inc. Reviews
My cat has been in and out of the vets and tufts for the past week dealing with double ear infection and a mouth full of infected teeth. My cat has an appointment to get his teeth extracted and so my fiancée called earlier and asked if there was anyway we could receive any assistance with our bill since she and I have both been laid off due to covid-19. The lady who talked with her was EXTREMELY RUDE, told us that if our cat hasn’t had his teeth extracted already than “he can wait another week since it mustn’t be that big of an emergency.” Also, the lady claimed $3000 was too high of a bill to assist with? Just wondering, what kind of business offers assistance when they can’t help out in any way with a bill? ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND, WILL BE REPORTING TO BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.
April 13 · Ben PhelpsMost places Unfortunately only care about money and time, but This place truly cares about you and your pet. I Had a few questions about my pet who wasn’t doing too good, and what I should do for my specific situation. so I called them and the kind woman who picked up the phone listened to me, was very understanding, kind and as helpful as possible. She even took the time to give me really great, thorough and open-minded advice and honestly helped me feel a lot better and even gain way better understanding of the situation. She even took the time to give me as much information as possible to help me out. I hope she knows she made a hard time for me, a bit easier and this company can definitely do the same for you so be kind to them, cause I can tell they truly care about what really matters (not just money like other companies) and try their best. ❤️ And that’s the most you can ask for !
