★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 12025 UPDATE: I've been bringing my dog to Prospect Ridge for the past 3.5 years, but I’ve recently decided to switch to a new veterinary practice. Like other reviewers, the primary reason for my decision is the increasingly high cost of care. One policy that ultimately drove me to leave was the requirement for biannual (twice per year) Wellness Exams in order to receive any services, including basic ones like vaccines. Even when my dog was healthy and I just needed a quick visit for something minor (e.g., vaccines or an ear infection), I was told I’d need to schedule and pay for a full exam. This meant budgeting additional dollars on top of already expensive services. Before switching, I asked several friends in the area whether their vets required twice-a-year exams, and all of them said no. When I shared this feedback with the Prospect Ridge team and suggested passing it along to management, I was instead asked to provide the names of the other clinics. I found this request off-putting — I’m not here to do competitive research on their behalf. To be fair, the staff has always been kind and took good care of my dog, which I appreciated. But the overall pricing model felt excessive, and over time, I began to feel nickel-and-dimed with each visit. I hope the practice reevaluates some of these policies, especially if others start to leave for similar reasons.-------PREVIOUS REVIEW:Dr. Cappiello was wonderful! As a first time puppy owner, I was nervous, but she made me feel at ease and took the time to answer all of my questions. Rob was also fantastic. Lastly, great office staff! Friendly and pleasant.
March 24 · Kristina SkradovaWe brought our dog here for a routine wellness exam after moving to the neighborhood from Brooklyn. From the intake paperwork, to scheduling, to care onsite, everyone here was courteous, attentive and communicative. Our dog gets anxious around new people, but after a few minutes, she warmed up to the staff and allowed them to do the proper examinations needed. I felt comfortable speaking to the technicians and the vet during the visit and left without any question that our dog is in great hands at PRV. We'll be maintaining our dog's health records here for the foreseeable future.
March 20 · Eric GonzalezWe are from Winnipeg Canada and come every year for several months to West Orange to visit family. We have a little dog and while here, we have taken her many times to see Dr. Cappiello at Prospect Ridge Veterinary Hospital. We commend the services of the doctor and her staff. Dr. Cappiello is very knowledgeable and caring along with her assistant, Toddiah who is also helpful and caring. Ariel, the receptionist is always so nice and a pleasure to speak with. Once when I called the office, Patti, the office manager answered the phone and was very helpful and nice by going over in great detail what tests my dog would need and what the costs would be. All in all we highly recommend Dr. Cappiello and all the staff that work with her. Sylvia and Perry
May 15 · Perry SchulmanTook a friend's cat there with a rash on its back above its tail. She made an appointment and had to prepay eighty-five dollars, which is really unusual in my experience. But you know, times change... whatever.Cat never had any shots or checkups prior. The doctor quickly diagnosed flea infestation. We had no indication of fleas or rashes with our other animals. So slightly skeptical? But I guess it's a doctor, they know more than you, right?Show so cat was given in antibiotic and also a cream and flea and tick ointment or cream or some such. Somewhat pricey, though hopefully the best, maybe not the best, though, not the most cost-effective treatment. Maybe this stuff is better? But again, Doctor knows best, right? Finally, I was given a fecal exam cup to return and paid the final bill of over five hundred dollars.Headed home with the cat and bought a flea comb on the way.Once there, I ran to come through the cat fur. Did not come away with any fleas, not a single pest. Then, my girlfriend explained to me that she had actually diagnosed a different malady online. She did forward that material to the office, and the vet agreed that was a proper diagnosis. But we would treat her for fleas anyway. We were intent on continuing treatment at the office until I read the instructions for the fecal sample.Turns out that if the sample jar was not turned in within thirty days, an eighty-five dollar late charge would be applied. This is also something I had never heard of or would expect to find from any ethical medical professional.I'm sure this is what brought my intuitive sensors to reflect upon the entire visit. The doctor running the flea comb through my cat initially turned up two or three aspects of what she described as dead fleas. Then she intimated that one had jumped onto her sweater and the vet tech was across the table. She pecked at her sweater a couple of times until she found it and disposed of the "live tick.".After seeing that $85 late charge for an empty vial, I can see that this practice is basically about making the most amount of money from the least amount of effort, with the smallest amount of material. So high prices, penalty fees, misdiagnosis, and a transparent pantomime in support of it, You might want to go someplace else. If you do go here, just be aware. If you're not... they'll get you. This visit was three days ago. Still, we've yet to see evidence of any fleas anywhere in this house or on the other animals we took in..I see. They check reviews regularly and respond where they believe it's appropriate. To deflect or mitigate damages, I'm not having it. Take the " L and, let it go," as I have learned my lesson and will also keep it moving some place else.Oh, and I gave 2 stars only because the vet techs were very friendly and personable.
March 31 · Dumb CarpenterI am VERY happy with this Veterinary Clinic. I recently switched to make this my dog’s permanent veterinarian. I’ve seen two different vets so far. Both were excellent. The technicians here are EXTRA special. They are all animal lovers and it’s clear as day they want your animal to feel better. Both times I had to bring my little dog in, they made us feel very welcome. OF COURSE my fully housebroken little dog JUST HAD to embarrass me and act like he had no manners by using the bathroom in the lobby : (. I felt awful. I wanted to clean up his mess but the technicians were SO kind and within two minutes, it was like the accident never happened. The care from this wonderful group doesn’t end when we walk out the door. Technicians messaged me both the next day and about a week after the visit to make sure my dog was on the road to recovery. I feel very confident in both veterinarians experience and knowledge. I am so happy to have discovered this adorable veterinarian clinic.
