Banfield Pet Hospital in Thousand Oaks provides a broad range of services that cover everything from basic wellness to advanced diagnostics and surgery. The clinic's capabilities allow it to be a primary care provider for pets of all ages, from puppies and kittens to senior animals. Their in-house laboratory and diagnostic tools enable them to get results quickly, which is crucial for timely and effective treatment. The hospital also functions as a veterinary pharmacy, providing a convenient way for pet owners to get the medications their animals need right after their appointment. Here is a detailed list of the services they offer:

Banfield Pet Hospital's main highlight is its commitment to preventive care through its Optimum Wellness Plans®. These yearly packages are designed to make routine care more accessible and affordable, bundling services like wellness exams and vaccinations. This is particularly appealing to pet owners who want to stay on top of their pet's health and budget for their care. The convenience of having a full-service animal hospital, complete with a veterinary pharmacy, under one roof simplifies the process of getting and filling prescriptions. They are a large corporation, which means they have standardized protocols for care and safety, and they are able to offer services like telemedicine and 24/7 Pet Chat™ for Optimum Wellness Plan members, providing round-the-clock support. Another notable feature is their LGBTQ+ friendly environment, which demonstrates an effort to be inclusive and welcoming to all members of the community.
However, it is worth noting that some customer experiences have raised concerns. While a large network can be convenient, some reviews express frustration with what they perceive as an impersonal, corporate approach, with complaints about high prices for services, poor communication, and a focus on upselling unnecessary treatments. One review mentioned a misdiagnosis and high costs for a common issue, and another described a frustrating experience with a ringworm treatment plan that seemed excessive and unmanageable. These reviews suggest that while the clinic has the infrastructure and capacity for a wide range of services, the personal, case-by-case attention that some pet owners desire may vary. The experiences of individual veterinarians and staff can significantly impact the quality of care and communication, making it important for pet owners to be prepared to ask questions and advocate for their pet's needs.

For a pet owner in California, choosing Banfield Pet Hospital can be a good option, particularly if you value a standardized approach and the benefits of a large network. The Optimum Wellness Plans can provide a cost-effective way to manage preventive care, which is a significant advantage for those who want to budget their pet's health expenses. The convenience of having a full-service facility with on-site diagnostics and a pharmacy simplifies the entire healthcare process. Additionally, the ability to access medical records at any Banfield location is a major plus for those who travel or may move. The clinic’s commitment to providing a wide range of services, from vaccinations to surgery, makes it a reliable choice for many pet health needs. However, it's important to be aware of the experiences shared by some clients regarding communication, potential for upselling, and the corporate feel of the practice. For pet owners who prioritize a personalized relationship with their vet and a highly customized approach to care, a smaller, independently-owned clinic might be a better fit. Ultimately, Banfield offers a convenient and comprehensive solution for pet care, but it is wise for pet owners to do their own research, ask pointed questions about services and costs, and trust their instincts to ensure their pet receives the best possible care for their individual needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I thought the majority of the staff I interacted with were very kind. My main issue is with the vet I saw, Dr Ramsden. He looked at my dog and immediately diagnosed her with allergies, despite only have one of the symptoms of allergies. My main concern was a sore on her foot, but he continued to disregard my concerns. $300 later and another week of my dog being in pain, her foot didn’t get better. I took her to another vet, and it turns out to be a foxtail, a very common issue for dogs here. Given that this is such a common problem in SoCal, it makes me confident Dr Ramsden was either trying to earn money or trying to finish the appointment quickly since it was a Saturday afternoon. I wouldn’t take your pets here if you care about your pets’ comfort or your wallet.
July 05 · Samantha JerryI brought my cat in for a ringworm test and was shocked by the clinic’s approach to treatment. Two days after testing positive, I was informed that the only option was to have my cat completely shaved and bathed three times a week for eight weeks—a recommendation that seemed both extreme and unmanageable for any pet owner. When I expressed my concerns and asked if the clinic could help with the grooming, they agreed and scheduled an appointment for that same week. However, after arriving at 10 AM for the appointment, I received a call at 2 PM stating they couldn’t provide the service due to an inadequate bathing area. No satisfactory explanation was offered for this sudden change, leaving me frustrated and confused. To make matters worse, when I went to pick up my cat, she was handled as if she were contagious—placed in a carrier and kept at arm’s length in full protective gear, which felt both dehumanizing and disrespectful. The only bright spot was a kind receptionist who went out of her way to console me and recommend another clinic. In the end, I still ended up paying for a range of medications that I later discovered were unnecessary. My cat only needed one antifungal treatment—easily available elsewhere at a far lower cost. It now appears that the clinic’s main objective was to keep me coming back for excessive and unnecessary services, rather than providing effective and compassionate care.Overall, I’m extremely disappointed by the lack of transparency, the poor service, and the extra costs incurred. I would not recommend this clinic to any pet owner seeking honest, affordable, and respectful veterinary care.
February 21 · Brynn McMahonWe left the Oxnard Banfield because though we are on a plan, we could never get an appointment. We were literally paying for no service! We then switched to Thousand Oaks and I am so glad that we did. They are much more polite there and Dr. Harris is just an amazing veterinarian. I highly recommend them.
March 28 · Cindy LloydLove this Applebee's. Applebee's in general has solid food. The one issue i do have is when ordering steaks....they can never cook it perfect. Its either too pink or overcooked. This is a go to weekend spot i enjoy. Happy hour
April 30 · Carl BondiettiI will NEVER EVER return to this Banfield. These people are extremely rude and incompetent. They have my pets file completely messed up to the point that I had to argue with rude receptionist about my pets medicine that the doctor prescribed refills on yet never properly notated this. Therefore for the past two months that I have called trying to get refills they have tried to deny me and the last receptionist named Monica spoke to me very poorly and like I was completely incompetent. She wanted to talk over me and try to make it like I was mistaken or lying either one. When I advised her i was already on my way she told me “ do not come because they could not give me my meds”This entire staff does not know how to do their jobs correctly. On top of the MALE receptionist giving me the wrong flea medication and charging me for it and then being advised it could have killed my dogs by Monica due to them being on a heart worm preventative already and how dangerous of a mistake this is. She did give me free flea meds for 6 months and a $15 dollar discount on my apoquel but this truly does not rectify their behavior. She also advised me how screwed my file was from the doctor and whoever else not properly notating things in my file. She had no issue letting me know about her coworkers mistakes but never once apologized for her extremely degrading and disrespectful tone. These people are negligent and act like they know more than the pet owners about their own pets. At no point did the shift lead try to come out and speak with me nor when I asked for her name was I given it. They strictly want your money. And have zero respect for clients because if they did this behavior would not be tolerated and these dangerous errors would not be occurring. Be careful if you decide to go here and pay attention to what they give you medication wise just to be safe, because they are not. I truly believe this Banfield does not care it’s strictly money. Here is a pic showing I have refills.
