The Cat Doctor Introduce
For California cat parents, finding a veterinarian who truly understands and specializes in feline health is a game-changer. The Cat Doctor in Thousand Oaks is a unique animal hospital that has dedicated its practice exclusively to cats. This specialization creates a calming, quiet environment free from the stress of barking dogs, making every visit a more peaceful experience for your feline companion. Since 1994, this award-winning hospital has been providing "Expert Loving Care Just for Cats" to the Conejo Valley and surrounding areas, including Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, and Simi Valley.
The core of The Cat Doctor's appeal is its highly specialized and compassionate approach. As one long-time customer puts it, the staff, including Dr. Bryan Cody and his assistant Josh, are "cat and cat owner whisperers." They are known for their gentle and kind way of interacting with cats, which builds trust and ensures the pets receive the best possible care. This level of attention to emotional and physical well-being is a huge draw for cat owners. As reviews highlight, the clinic's dedication to making every visit as stress-free as possible is a major factor in why so many families have been loyal clients for years, with some driving from as far as Los Angeles for the superior care. This is a place where every cat is treated as an individual, and the staff's passion for felines is evident in everything they do, from handling to diagnostics.
The Cat Doctor is conveniently located at 760 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360, USA. Its location on a main boulevard makes it easily accessible for residents of Thousand Oaks and the broader Ventura County area. Being in a central spot is crucial for both routine appointments and emergency situations, providing a reliable and close-by resource for feline health. The clinic is also committed to ensuring that its services are accessible to all pet owners.
The facility features a wheelchair-accessible car park and a wheelchair-accessible entrance, making it easy for all clients to bring their cats inside. Furthermore, a wheelchair-accessible toilet and general toilet facilities are available, adding to the comfort and convenience of the visit. The clinic recommends appointments to ensure a smooth and time-efficient experience for all, which is particularly helpful given its popularity and the number of pets it serves. The staff's willingness to "work in" a concerned cat owner, as noted in a review, shows their dedication to being there for their clients and their pets, even when fully booked.
The Cat Doctor provides a full range of medical and surgical services, all tailored specifically for cats. This specialized approach ensures that every procedure and treatment plan is optimized for feline physiology and behavior.
Preventative Health Care: This includes a complete physical examination, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and nutritional counseling. They focus on catching potential problems early to ensure a long and healthy life for your cat.
Medical and Surgical Procedures: The clinic is equipped to handle a wide range of medical needs, from internal medicine to complex surgical procedures, including laser surgery, which is often less invasive and results in faster recovery times.
Dental Care: They provide essential dental services, including dental cleaning, to help prevent and treat periodontal disease, a common issue in cats.
Boarding and Grooming: The clinic offers a unique "Bed and Breakfast" or "Medical Stay" boarding service, where a small number of cats are given individual attention. Grooming services like nail trims and sanitary clips are also available.
Pain Management: The team is committed to making sure your cat is as comfortable as possible, with a special interest in providing effective pain management.
On-site and Online Pharmacy: They offer a fully stocked on-site pharmacy for immediate prescription needs and an online pharmacy for a wider variety of options and home delivery.
What truly sets The Cat Doctor apart is the combination of its feline-exclusive focus and the exceptional quality of its staff and services.
Cat-Exclusive Practice: This is the most significant highlight. By focusing solely on cats, the clinic creates a low-stress environment. There are no dogs to intimidate or scare the feline patients, which is a major factor in their comfort and well-being.
Compassionate and Skilled Team: Reviews repeatedly praise the "gentle," "kind," and "caring" nature of the entire staff, from the veterinarians like Dr. Cody to the assistants like Josh, and the front desk team. Their genuine love for cats shines through in every interaction.
Personalized Attention: The clinic's willingness to accommodate a client’s preference to stay with their cat during a nail trim, a procedure normally done in the back, shows a deep level of personalized and sensitive care.
Expertise and Knowledge: Dr. Cody and his team are highly skilled and knowledgeable, providing accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans. Customers trust their expertise, a sentiment built over years of consistent, high-quality care.
Inclusivity and Comfort: The hospital is a welcoming space for everyone, as it is an LGBTQ+ friendly establishment. This commitment to inclusivity, along with its excellent accessibility features, makes it a comfortable and safe place for all members of the community.

For any cat owner in California, choosing a specialized vet like The Cat Doctor is an excellent decision for your pet's health and your own peace of mind. The most compelling reason is the clinic's feline-exclusive environment. Cats are sensitive creatures, and the stress of a traditional animal hospital can negatively impact their health. By removing the common stressors of a multi-species clinic, The Cat Doctor provides a setting where cats can be calm and more receptive to care. This leads to more accurate physical exams and a better overall experience for your pet.
Beyond the environment, the staff's unparalleled compassion and skill are what truly make this clinic special. The emotional support provided to a family putting down an elderly pet, as described in a heartfelt review, is a testament to the team's genuine empathy. They don't just treat illnesses; they build relationships and provide comfort during the most difficult of times. For a reasonable price, as one client noted, you get a level of care and sensitivity that is difficult to find. For these reasons, and because the clinic truly lives up to its reputation as "cat whisperers," The Cat Doctor is the best choice for any cat parent in Thousand Oaks and beyond.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I absolutely love The Cat Doctor! When I moved to the area in 2020 with my 6-month-old kitten, I called several vets to get information about neutering him. The staff at The Cat Doctor stood out immediately—they were by far the most attentive and helpful. On top of that, their pricing was much more reasonable than the others I contacted. The procedure went smoothly, even during the height of pandemic precautions, and I felt confident in their care. I’ve been with them ever since and have recommended them to other cat parents, who’ve had the same great experience. Highly recommend!
August 27 · Claudia SeidlStill 5-Stars!! This is my third review for Dr. Bryan Cody (please see below reviews). SALLYcakes and I, along with my daughter, truly love Dr. Cody. He is so gentle and kind. I have been taking my cat to Dr. Cody for 7+ years now. His wonderful, caring, cat whisperer way of interacting with cats is beautiful and reassuring. He causes my cat to trust him and she gets the best care. Before moving out here, my cats saw different doctors (I’ve had lots of cats over the years), and none hold a candle to Dr. Cody’s gentle care. Please, bring your kitty to Dr. Cody. You will be so glad you did. It will be the best experience for your cat, and for you. Dr. Cody, thank you for working us in when I was concerned for SALLYcakes. I know how booked up you are. You are a such a sweet veterinarian, aside from being so skilled. SALLYcakes is feeling better! Thank you so much! My family and I love you. ❤️ 🐈Still 5-Stars!! Three years ago, I wrote a review for The Cat Doctor (see below). I’m still taking my cat there (the last of 5), for care. The team is fantastic in sensitivity on all levels (physical, emotional, time efficiency, etc.). Dr. Cody is always wonderful, and his assistant, Josh, is amazing, too! Josh listens with such genuine care, and he is so gentle, just like Dr. Cody. He also clipped SALLYcakes nails absolutely perfect! They were totally smooth and cut back as far as would not harm. I know because he permitted me to stay with her while he clipped, which he said they normally take them to the back to have one person hold and another clip. I shared that I preferred to be the one to hold her. No problem! And, SALLYcakes was calm and didn’t pull back or yelp (or growl) at all. The front reception is caring and very welcoming, too! I love them. You can trust them. The Cat Doctor (Dr. Cody), and his sensitive staff (Shelly & Mandy) are true cat and cat owner whisperers. I just moved to the area, and had to put my beloved, very old feral kitty down. He was with me for approximately 20-years. The Cat Doctor and loving staff were extremely gentle, genuinely caring, empathetic and highly professional and skilled. They eased my kitty and I through a most difficult transition. I have four other cats (semi-ferals), all of whom now have truly the best veterinarian. I received a tastefully kind sympathy card, which was extended in a thoughtful period of time. Thank you, Dr Cody, Mandy, and Shelly, for ‘being there’ with such great care.
May 18 · C CI can't say enough good things about this clinic. Dr. Cody clearly cares about his patients, treating all three of my fur babies with kindness and patience. In addition, the staff are incredibly friendly and responsive. I always felt completely supported. The unexpected follow-up phone calls from Dr. Cody just to check in on my pets after a visit meant a lot and showed how much he cares. Even when at times test results weren’t conclusive, Dr. Cody was honest and transparent, taking the time to explain everything clearly. Pricing is fair and clearly communicated. I have just moved away and, now that I am looking for a new vet, I realize how much I have been spoiled by the Cat Doctor.
May 09 · LisaDr. Cody is an exceptional cat doctor. His gentle manner, extensive knowledge and obvious love for felines makes him the best to treat the beloved, furry members of our family.
August 16 · Linda GrayThe BEST cat doctor EVER! Cody is an AWESOME vet and the prices were amazing. They don’t try to do a bunch of random test to up-sale. They do the necessary test and will suggests ways they can do the most economical testing. Cat doctor in Thousand Oaks.
