Springfield Animal Hospital offers a wide array of services, but some customer reviews raise concerns about their approach to care. One review from a prospective client noted that the hospital's reputation for refusing emergency services was a deal-breaker, expressing a desire for compassionate and reasonably priced care for their newly adopted cat. Another customer's feedback described the hospital as feeling "more like a business than a place that cares for animals," citing "rushed appointments, unnecessary upsells, and zero compassion." The review also mentioned staff indifference and a perceived focus on "making money" over the pet's well-being. These perspectives, while only a couple of examples, are important for potential clients to consider as they make a decision about their pet's care. The features of the hospital, such as its comprehensive services, including surgical procedures and boarding facilities, suggest a full-service operation. The emphasis on preventative care, from annual exams to vaccination programs, also highlights their focus on long-term wellness. They offer modern conveniences like an on-site pharmacy and the ability to request refills, which are valuable features for managing a pet’s health. The hospital also provides care for unique pets like pocket pets, showcasing a broad range of expertise. However, a customer-centric focus on compassionate service and transparency around costs is equally important. Pet owners often seek a vet who is not only skilled but also genuinely empathetic, especially during difficult times. The hospital's services, such as behavioral counseling and support for pet loss, indicate an understanding of the emotional side of pet ownership. However, the reviews suggest that some clients may not have experienced this compassion, which is a key consideration for anyone seeking veterinary care in the area. They offer a very wide range of services and facilities, but the customer experience seems to vary, so it is something to take into consideration. A prospective client should always ask questions about their specific needs, especially for emergency care, before making a final decision.
- Comprehensive Range of Services: Offers a full spectrum of care from routine check-ups to advanced surgery and emergency services.

- On-Site Pharmacy: Simplifies the process of getting and refilling pet medications.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have adopted a older male neutered cat. Looking for a vet because no medical information available for my cat. After reading reviews I don't think I can go anyplace that refused emergency services! Disappointed because I am a older widow looking for reasonable pricing and compassionate services. Not for me! For my new family member, Big Mack!
August 19 · Fern an Thatcher NanaThis place feels more like a business than a place that cares for animals. Rushed appointments, unnecessary upsells, and zero compassion—just a focus on making money. The staff seemed indifferent, and my pet’s well-being clearly wasn’t the priority. Would never return or recommend.
May 21 · David WallaceI assume there has been a change of ownership in the last few years. They will go to great lengths to find ways to turn you away. I understand they are short staffed with 1 vet. They will mail, email, and text you important appointment annual needs to turn you away when you attempt to schedule. I will gladly find a better place to bring my dogs. They will GLADLY accept your pet and take your $$ if it doesn't require an actual veterinarian.
December 27 · Nate CobbWell, this is bizarre. Over a year ago (approx. October, 2020), I wrote a negative review about Springfield Animal Hospital regarding our beloved cat, Ella. At the time, SAH responded and I followed up describing what I believed were errors in their response. End of Story. Today, out of the blue, I received notification from Google that SAH responded to my review. Again? Confused, I researched it and found a response from SAH posted this morning to my old review. Today’s response refers to a doctor being out and only one doctor on duty the day in question. I was never told about a doctor being out when I was trying to schedule an appointment for Ella that day nor was I ever told that “. . . it was in your(my) pet’s best interest not to wait” I also definitely don’t recall Dr. Temple telling me I was “. . . free to write that you don’t like the doctor.” He was far more condescending, arrogant and surly than that. I am completely befuddled why Springfield Animal Hospital would want to bring this all up again, over a year later but I am now compelled to respond. Again, to reiterate what I said in the original review “I can accept practices and policies changing, what I can NOT accept is how a care giver for my beloved pets could treat them and me with such arrogance and utter lack of compassion and empathy.” Google space limitations wont allow me to post the original responses. My family has happily been a continuous client in good standing at Springfield Animal Hospital for over 35 years (see my 5-star google review 6 years ago). But ownership has changed and we received a very harsh lesson about the “new” SAH. Over 18 years ago, our cat Ella was brought into SAH as a tiny, abandoned kitten found on the side of the road with severe eye injuries. Dr. Tony (previous owner of SAH) put her back together again, gave her to us as a foster during her healing process and we’ve had her ever since. For her entire life, all her medical care has been at SAH. We’ve never brought her anywhere else. Recently, Ella became very ill. I called SAH early the next morning, Monday explaining Ella was in trouble and needed medical help. After checking with the veterinarian, the receptionist advised me they were busy and Ella could not be seen at all for the entire week! I was stunned! Later that day, I was finally able to get Ella into another facility. They were exceptionally kind but Ella was too frail to tolerate the medical treatment and they euthanized her (with her family by her side) 2 days later. Eventually, I was advised by others in the veterinary field to follow up with SAH because surely there was a miscommunication in the office and the veterinarian should be made aware so he can correct it. When I spoke with Dr Temple, I was staggered by his surly, belligerent, condescending attitude when acknowledging he was the veterinarian who decided Ella would not be seen because they were too busy that week. I can accept practices and policies changing, what I can NOT accept is how a care giver for my beloved pets could treat them and me with such arrogance and utter lack of compassion and empathy. He even threatened to sue me if I wrote a negative review. If this is how he treats me, I certainly don’t trust him with my family pets. After all these decades at SAH, I will now be finding another animal hospital for our veterinary needs.
