Petco Introduce
For many Minnesota pet owners, Petco is a go-to destination for a wide range of pet supplies, food, and professional services. The store in Blaine, Minnesota, is a part of this well-known national chain, offering a variety of products and services designed to meet the needs of diverse pets and their human companions. While the national brand is a leader in the industry, individual store experiences can vary, and it is important for local customers to be aware of what to expect from their neighborhood location.
The Blaine Petco, like other locations, is a comprehensive retail space where you can find everything from premium pet foods and toys to grooming supplies and aquatics. They carry a broad inventory for dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and fish, making it a convenient one-stop-shop for many. The store's structure and layout are designed for a straightforward shopping experience, and they often run promotions and have a rewards program that can be beneficial for regular shoppers. However, recent customer feedback suggests that the quality of service at this particular location may not always live up to the brand's general reputation. One review from a customer highlights a very negative experience with a staff member's lack of professionalism and empathy, which is a significant concern for pet owners who rely on staff for advice and care.
One of the most notable aspects of a large pet supply store like Petco is the array of services it offers in addition to retail. These can include a full-service grooming salon, dog training classes, and even veterinary services through Vetco clinics. While these services are advertised, recent reviews from the Blaine location point to serious issues. A customer who brought in their anxious dog for a grooming service reported that the staff lacked the patience and basic handling skills needed to work with a fearful animal, leading to a refusal of service. This is particularly concerning given that many pets have some level of anxiety with new experiences. Another review describes an extremely unprofessional encounter with a store manager who allegedly yelled at a customer attempting to surrender fish. While it is important to note that Petco's corporate policy generally does not accept returns or surrenders of live fish, the reported behavior of the store manager is an issue of grave concern, directly impacting the customer experience. On the other hand, another manager, Danielle, was praised for being nice and helpful, showing that staff experience can be inconsistent. Such reviews suggest that while the store may offer these services, the quality of care and customer interaction can be a mixed bag.
In contrast to the negative experiences, the store's product inventory and accessibility are generally in line with Petco's standards. They carry a wide variety of pet supplies and food, catering to a range of animals. They also have an aquatics section with various fish and invertebrates, although it's important to be aware of their specific return and surrender policies. The store is part of a larger retail complex, which typically provides ample parking and accessibility. These features are a benefit to the local community, as they provide a convenient place to shop for pet essentials. However, the recurring issues with staff conduct and professional handling of animals, as reported by customers, should give potential patrons pause. For a local pet store to be a trusted community resource, it must foster an environment of kindness, professionalism, and understanding, especially when dealing with stressed animals and their worried owners.
Ultimately, a store’s value lies not just in its products, but in the people who work there. The reported behavior of certain staff members and managers at this particular Petco location, if representative of the overall culture, could deter many from returning. This is a critical factor for Minnesotan pet owners who seek a positive, stress-free experience for both themselves and their companions. A pet is a family member, and their care is not something to be taken lightly. When a business shows a lack of empathy or understanding, it can be a dealbreaker for clients. While the other manager, Danielle, was praised for her kindness, the reported actions of others suggest a serious inconsistency in service quality that a customer should be aware of before choosing to visit this particular location.

What is worth choosing
For Minnesotans considering the Blaine Petco, it's essential to weigh the convenience of a large, well-stocked retail store against the serious concerns raised by recent customer reviews. While the store offers a broad selection of products and services, the reported issues with staff professionalism and animal handling are significant. The documented instances of a lack of patience and empathy towards a stressed animal, as well as an unprofessional encounter with a manager, are strong reasons for caution. A pet store's staff should be a trusted source of care and guidance, and these reviews suggest that may not always be the case here. While the positive experience with the manager Danielle is a good sign, the inconsistency in service makes it difficult to fully recommend this location. Pet owners should proceed with awareness and consider their alternatives, perhaps choosing a local business with a more consistently positive track record for both customer and animal well-being.

Petco Reviews
We brought our dog in on 8/15/25 for a Mini Makeover Plus, and the experience was awful. The moment the staff tried to pick him up, he was a little scared — but showed absolutely no aggression. Instead of showing patience or trying a different approach, they immediately refused service and told us to go somewhere that uses a muzzle. For a business that works with animals, the lack of understanding and basic handling skills was shocking. We felt unwelcome, dismissed, and judged. I would strongly advise against bringing your pet to the Blaine Petco.
August 15 · sx90bThe STORE MANAGER is completely unprofessional, I came in to surrender fish and the STORE MANAGER Anthony completely lost his temper and yelled at me in the store. Told him I was surrendering the fish because I was moving and he said “good we don’t want you here”. I’ve seen the way he talks to other customers, he acts like he’s completely miserable, he’s not the right person to be a STORE MANAGER. On the other hand the other manager Danielle was very nice and helpful and apologized for him being rude.
August 31 · 209JordanI’m giving this experience one star due to the customer service I encountered. While waiting in line with other customers, I noticed the cashier was engaged in a lengthy personal conversation with another customer. Despite seeing the growing line, the cashier continued the discussion rather than promptly completing the transaction to assist those waiting. When I finally had the opportunity to ask about prescription dog food, I was directed to the veterinary section. However, upon arriving there, the staff redirected me back to the regular sales team. Unfortunately, neither group seemed knowledgeable about the product I was seeking. While I understand that not every employee may have all the answers, the lack of clear communication and attentiveness left me disappointed. I hope this feedback encourages improvement, as I’d like to feel confident in the service and expertise provided during future visits.
June 30 · Pauleen WestplateI took my dog for his vaccinations, and the experience was amazing. The staff were incredibly considerate of fearful dogs and made sure to give space to the more reactive ones. It really made a difference, and I’m so grateful for how thoughtful they were throughout the whole process!!(This is my update on the last few visits bringing my little dog and two kittens here have been awful. The workers (Jared) didn’t seem to know what they were doing at all, and some of them were super rude for no reason and acted all stuck-up too. I’m not bringing my pets back here again. It sucks how bad these last experiences have gone downhill, and be careful when bring your beloved pets here…)
July 20 · None of your BusinessTerrible customer service. I asked for a refund for dog training classes I paid 249 dollars for THAT I HAD YET TO EVEN ATTEND and they declined it. Make no mistake, they SCAMMED me, I paid for a service that I never received!
