This article serves as an in-depth guide for local users in Connecticut, providing a factual and engaging overview of what makes this hospital a prominent choice for their animal companions.
Shore Haven Veterinary Hospital is more than just a clinic; it's a full-service animal hospital and veterinary pharmacy. The practice identifies as women-owned, which is a noteworthy feature for those who wish to support diverse local businesses. What truly sets them apart, however, is the focus on building relationships with pet owners and providing a caring environment for the animals in their care. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Really difficult day for us last week. Our 16yo cat went downhill fast over they weekend. Local vet needed Ultrasound. After 3 locations rejected us, my daughter left our beautiful friend at Shorehaven. Never meeting us before, the vet called me with sad news. He was the kindest, well trained vet at this kind of news.never felt rushed. After breaking the news to my daughter, we went down again about an hr drive to euthanize. The doc made time for us. The staff and doctor were so kind giving us a special room, asking if there was any other information needed for closure, walked us through the exactly what would happen, what we would see. Gave us more time to be with our beloved cat and gave us options for cremation which was also a beautiful experience. I cannot give more praise than this. They turned a mess into a beautiful experience in a day. What a blessing that we ended up here.
April 19 · Shirley ChildsMy dog was vomiting and the front desk said I could bring him in to be seen right away. We get there and they say it is a drop-off appointment meaning I leave him there to be seen whenever the doctor is free - maybe during their lunch? They had also cancelled the appt we made for a few hours later so this was our only option. Incompetent front desk. They have permanently lost our business.
September 03 · Emily XBest veterinarians ever!I brought my dog Tully to my original vet for her routine visit/vaccines. A mass was found and long story short, she needed a splenectomy (her spleen removed). My vet gave me a quote and it was crazy expensive. I just didn't have a great feeling about it so I decided to look for another vet that could help.Shore Haven to the rescue! From my initial call to make an appt, to arriving the day of for my appt, everyone was SO friendly, warm and welcoming. We saw Dr. Coins and he was amazing with Tully and re-confirmed everything that my old vet stated. He went one step further and gave Tully and X-ray to be sure they were not missing anything.Dr. Coins and Dr. Wayne moved their schedules around and got Tully in for surgery the next day! Her mass was quite big and needed to come out. They were so thorough and communicated so well during the whole process. Tully's surgery went better than I could have imagined. I was so happy! They requested that Tully come back in the next day just so they could monitor her to be sure everything was okay. Tully walked through the door the next day, tail wagging. Tully never walked into my old vet with her tail wagging....The vet tech came out and said "Tully Girl!" which is what I also call her. She was so happy to see everyone. They held Tully there for a few hours to make sure everything was okay and it was. I picked Tully up a few hours later and again, was greeted so nicely by everyone, thoroughly explained everything Tully was going to need moving forward and just really went above and beyond.I cannot thank the Shore Haven Team enough! Tully had a major surgery and we are day 2 post op, and I have my energetic baby back! She is thriving and doing so well!I will of course only be going to Shore Haven from now on. I cannot say enough about them. I thought I was losing my dog (shes 10) and now shes back to acting as if she is young and thriving. Every single person I dealt with was so kind and amazing and I am just so thrilled. 100/10 experience!Thank you!!
August 07 · Mary PetritzI HIGHLY recommend Shore Haven Vet because they are incredibly professional, kind, and their communication is AMAZING. I have been to vets offices in Ohio, Montana, and Connecticut and Shore Haven is by far the best one!! Each member of their staff that I have spoken to, whether over the phone or in person, has never made me feel like they were in a hurry. This includes Barbara (Briana?) and Nicole at the front desk, the vet techs Jesus and Emily, and Dr. Pires!I often have had to chase down results or quotes from other vets offices, but Shore Haven has never failed to follow through. Dr. Pires called me during Osiris' dental to give me updates on how he was doing and she also discussed bloodwork in detail with me over the phone for both of my cats! Plus, I have been delightedly shocked to receive a call to check in on my boys they day after their appointments. And last but not least, while I've been sitting on a bench in the main office, Emily has kneeled down in front of me to go over paperwork! While it is such a down to earth way to meet with a pet owner, I worry about your knees! Some cushions might be good to keep on hand. 😋Overall, I feel a lot of relief knowing that I've established my boys with a great team that will help make sure they live their best nine lives. ❤️
September 11 · Cara DeAngelisThis was my cat, Willow’s first visit with Dr. Wayne, as we’ve recently moved to the area.First, the environment is very clean and spacious. The exam rooms look like little houses on the outside (so cute and inviting).Willow was so calm as we waited. But when the tech, Jesus, called us in, her other side emerged— anxious Calico. She was growling, hissing, spitting, shaking, ears straight back, pupils fully dilated, you name it. Jesus was impressively knowledgeable and had a professional, yet personable and warm demeanor. He mentioned having worked with big cats (tigers, et al), so I’m assuming Willow’s “hissy fit” was nothing by comparison, and he treated her with mindfulness and compassion.Dr. Wayne and Jesus were both very attentive to the emotional needs of my kitty. Jesus actually spent most of Willow’s appointment sitting on the floor in an attempt to ease her anxiety. Dr. Wayne eventually joined him on the floor in hopes of making her feel safe. Unfortunately, Willow’s anxiety was too far gone for her to sufficiently relax.Although they COULD have proceeded with the examination, they determined that they didn’t want to chance traumatizing her further and creating a negative association with being there.***As a side note, at Willow’s previous vet, they NEVER showed compassion for Willow’s anxiety. The tech would just throw a towel over her and pin her down as the vet did her thing. Once, they took her into a back office while I waited in the exam room for them to trim her nails, until I heard Willow let out a BLOOD CURDLING SCREAM, and I barged back there, looking for my cat, but by the time I found her, they were done. So I KNOW Willow’s more than a handful, and I SO appreciate the extraordinary way she was handled by these two professionals.***Dr. Wayne gave me a 30-day supply of Purina Calming Care— the box reads, “May take up to 6 weeks for full effect,” but Willow has chilled out and is sleeping after the first dose (granted, she may be exhausted from the tantrum she had at the vet).He also gave me a bottle of Gabapentin to calm Willow down next week before our 2nd attempt at her 1st appointment!
