Staten Island Animal Hospital Introduce
For pet owners on Staten Island, our companions are more than just pets; they are cherished family members. We want to provide them with the best possible care, from routine wellness checks to more specialized medical attention. Finding a veterinary practice that is a true partner in this journey is paramount. Staten Island Animal Hospital, located on Willowbrook Road, has long been a presence in the local community, offering a wide array of services that cater to the diverse needs of pets and their owners. As a comprehensive facility, it provides everything from advanced medical care to convenient boarding and grooming services, aiming to be a one-stop-shop for your pet's health and well-being.
The hospital's mission is to provide world-class medicine with hometown care, a philosophy that is often reflected in positive customer experiences. Many clients have found the front staff to be "super friendly" and genuinely caring about the "patients (pets)." This welcoming atmosphere can make a significant difference, especially during a pet's first visit. The presence of veterinarians, such as Dr. Hendawy, who are described as "fantastic and super warming," contributes to a sense of trust and comfort. The hospital also strives to provide a clean and professional environment, which many visitors have noticed and appreciated. These small details, from a kind word at the front desk to a clean space, all contribute to a positive and reassuring experience for pet owners.
However, it is also important to acknowledge that customer experiences can vary widely. While many people have had great interactions and feel their pets are well cared for, a small number of clients have expressed serious concerns. A negative review highlights issues with communication, cost, and a perceived lack of empathy from a specific veterinarian. The reviewer's experience points to a feeling of being rushed, unheard, and overcharged for services that did not meet their expectations. It’s a reminder for all pet owners to be clear about their concerns and to feel comfortable asking questions to ensure they are on the same page as their veterinary team. The contrast in reviews suggests that while the hospital aims for high standards, individual experiences can differ.
Staten Island Animal Hospital is conveniently located at 640 Willowbrook Rd, Staten Island, NY 10314, USA. Situated in a central part of the island, it is easily accessible for residents from various neighborhoods. The hospital has made a commitment to accessibility, offering a wheelchair accessible parking lot to ensure that all members of the community can visit with ease. For pet owners, the hospital’s central location makes it a practical choice for both routine appointments and urgent care needs. The hospital recommends making appointments, which is a standard practice to minimize wait times and ensure that the staff is prepared for each patient's specific needs. The facility also has a restroom for client use, adding to the convenience of the visit.
The hospital offers a comprehensive list of services that address nearly every aspect of a pet's health and wellness, setting it apart as a true animal hospital rather than just a simple clinic.
- Veterinary Medical Services: This includes a full spectrum of care, from primary and urgent care to advanced diagnostic procedures. The hospital is equipped to treat both common conditions and complex illnesses, offering specialized services such as pet cancer care, diabetes care, and arthritis management. They also perform a variety of medical and surgical procedures.
- Care for All Animals: Unlike some vets that only treat dogs and cats, Staten Island Animal Hospital has a special focus on birds and exotic animals, including pocket pets. This makes it a valuable resource for owners of less common companions.
- Integrated and Holistic Medicine: The hospital provides alternative therapies and holistic medicine, including chiropractic treatment and veterinary acupuncture. This integrative approach offers pet owners a wider range of options for pain management and overall wellness.
- Boarding & Grooming Services: The hospital offers dog and cat boarding, including extended stay boarding. In-house pet groomers provide services such as bathing, blow drying, ear cleaning, and flea and tick treatments.
- Pharmacy and Pet Supplies: A well-stocked on-site pharmacy makes it convenient to get prescription refills and necessary medications. They also offer prescription diets and therapeutic diets, as well as a home delivery service for pet food and supplies.
- Client Support: The hospital offers a number of client care services, including pet counseling, pet loss support, and a free shipping option for home delivery of products. They also offer a "Pet Health Checker" and resources to help clients manage their pet's health.
Staten Island Animal Hospital has several standout features that, for many, make it a top choice for pet care in the area.
- Broad Service Spectrum: The ability to get medical services, boarding, and grooming all in one location is a significant convenience for busy New York pet owners.
- Specialization in Exotic Animals: The hospital's expertise in treating birds and exotic pets is a key differentiator, as these services can be difficult to find.
- Integrative Medicine Options: The availability of alternative therapies like chiropractic care and acupuncture demonstrates a modern, holistic approach to pet wellness and pain management.
- Client-Focused Amenities: Offering a well-stocked pharmacy, prescription refills, and home delivery services simplifies the process of getting necessary pet supplies.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1**update** been here a few times now and so far it's a wonderful experience. Dr. Hendawy is fantastic and super warming.Visited here for my kitten's first wellness visit and we had a good experience. Had concerns and the doctor helped provide explanations and answers for me. We even got a goodie bag filled with some toys and a food can cover. They also offer nice pet grooming. The front staff is super friendly and they care about the patients (pets). It's also a very clean feeling. This place will become our main vet for my kittens.
August 04 · Jonathan (Flavor Wanderer)WARNING!!!!! I paid nearly $600 for my visit, and the vet (Tarek Hendawy) had disappeared immediately. He was not available for me to ask my questions and concerns. I had the nurse reply to my questions/concerns with "I think." I didn't pay that much money for "I think". I came for answers to my questions and concerns about my dog's well-being. But this guy couldn't care less and just gave my dog a quick check up and left the room. I thought he was gonna come back. But he never did. I didn't even come for the check-up. I came for a specific reason/concern, which I made very clear when I made the appointment. Then they force me to buy their prescription rather than allowing me to get the prescription form so I can go to the pharmacy I already go to. I asked for chewable, but they don't provide that, they said. It is so hard to give my dog pills that are not chewable. The nurse just wanted me to leave immediately after the doctor left. I thought it was a joke because that was too quick. I didn't even get to talk to the vet about my concerns. So while I was still trying to wrap my head around that, I had stupidly agreed to an ear cleaning. I had the same products they used on his ears, at home from my other vet who gave them to me. I paid an extra $50 for this. I had asked for my dogs nails to be trimmed and even that was like too much. This was the FIRST TIME I ever saw my dog hate his visit to the vet. It broke my heart to see how he was treated. My dog was always treated with gentle hands (especially during Dr. Ruderman's time). And this time was completely different. I'm sorry, but this visit really, really upset me because I didn't pay all that money and still didn't have my concerns addressed, and stuck trying to force a pill he won't accept down my dogs throat. Waste of money and my time. All this showed me was that people who work here don't care about the well-being of animals, but the money coming in. This visit really broke my heart. Please, if you really care about your dog/pet and seek a team who also do, I advise you to go elsewhere. Staten Island is filled with other wonderful Veterinarians, even better for your pocket. You want someone who offers real solutions and not prolong situations. You shouldn't have to pay this ridiculous amount and still have to watch your loved pet suffer.
August 27 · Josefina AlonsoLove scheduling appointments and dog visits. Everyone is kind & understanding. From squeezing us in for an urgent issue to excellent care & understanding from the vets and staff, this is where I know our fur baby receives excellent care!!
July 10 · Edana EssaI have a Dog that needs a ton of care and the staff especially (Stephanie) and Dr. Hendway have been extremely knowledgeable and caring. The wait time is not bad, they don’t push testing and the cost is reasonable. I would definitely recommend them.
August 18 · tnation oneFirst visit: it went well. Staff were nice and welcoming, although the doctor seemed to not be all there. He also forgot to do the routine ear check up. (Tech had to remind him) he checked for fleas (bc my pup was itchy) No fleas in sight… they did a fecal exam for any parasites and that came back all “undetected”. This was all done July 21! Today is July 30th and she pooped tapeworms at 3am! I saved it and took it to the hospital. I’ve worked at an animal hospital, so I am a little educated. I KNOW WHAT ARE TAPEWORMS! I’d like to also say: I have kids and have a clean home!!! She must’ve picked up a flea from somewhere, horrible 😞. Not to mention, I called at ~9:15am, and they say there’s no openings today, but then when I explained my situation, all of a sudden there was an opening at 10:20am because someone cancelled. When I get to the hospital there was absolutely no pets insight. Upon leaving, neither! I’m waiting for an Uber, which has been a while now, and there is still no pet insight, just two pick ups. Appointments??? Booked??? LIARS! Then, today… I told them my pup has tapeworms and gave them the fresh poop sample… they looked at me like I don’t know what I’m talking about. To see the doctor was ~$109-158! It wasn’t even a set price! Scam!!! Then I said, no! Just give me medicine to deworm my pup. The tech went and spoke to the doctor and the tech came back to say it was hookworms… long story short. The tech apologized and said it was in fact tapeworms. Then, I asked why they gave me Panacur, instead of Praziquantel, if we know it’s tapeworms?! But that was a whole other speech. I just took the damn Panacur and called it a day. These people ONLY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY! That doctor WAS available. He couldn’t come out for a second? He couldn’t give good, clear suggestions to a concerned pet owner?! He had his tech walking back and forth because I had my fair share of questions/concerns. I wonder if Patty Wu knows this of her selfish and careless staff! Not okay and just not right!I also got my pup at a ACC shelter in the city. They SHOULD NOT PARTNER WITH THIS VCA IN STATEN ISLAND! The care is NOT IN THE PETS BEST INTEREST! Those who aren’t educated will get swallowed into paying for careless care! HOPE THIS HELP.
