This place is fine if your dog is young and healthy, I would not recommend bringing your dog here if your dog is older and /or sick. My dog had a swollen stomach and in checking my dog out giving X-rays ($1,000 for 3 X-rays by the way) it appears they somehow ruptured his spleen and would not own up to it. Before I brought him in he was fine only had a swollen stomach. I brought him home, he was out of it (so bad I called and asked if they sedated him) he had massive bloody diarrhea, then lethargic and unconscious for three days and never recovered. I’m not gonna talk about the bad advice they gave, and the lack of guidance for a dog that’s bleeding out, for instance, they did not even suggest Yunnan Baiyao when I told them what was happening. This was one of my worst nightmares lived out. Like I said if your dog is young and healthy you just need some regular flea and tick medicine prescribed the place is fine. Once your dog gets older and sick you may want to find a different veterinarian. - D P

Staten Island Veterinary Group Introduce

For pet owners on Staten Island, the health and happiness of our furry, feathered, or scaled family members are of the utmost importance. When seeking a veterinarian, we look for a place that combines state-of-the-art medical equipment with a staff that treats our pets with genuine affection. Staten Island Veterinary Group, a long-standing and respected animal hospital and veterinary practice, is a familiar name to many residents. They have been a fixture in the community for years, providing comprehensive healthcare services for a wide variety of animals, including dogs, cats, and even exotics. The core mission of the practice is to offer high-quality veterinary medicine with a focus on preventative care, ensuring your pet remains healthy for as long as possible.

The experience at Staten Island Veterinary Group is built on a foundation of compassionate and knowledgeable care. The team understands that pets are more than just animals; they are valued family members. This understanding is reflected in the staff's approach, which is consistently described as kind, helpful, and professional. The practice aims to be a one-stop shop for all of your pet's healthcare needs, from routine checkups and vaccinations to more complex surgical procedures and behavioral counseling. They are dedicated to not only treating illnesses but also to educating pet parents on how to best care for their companions, offering advice on topics such as nutrition management and flea and tick prevention. The longstanding relationships they've built with clients, some of whom have been patients of Dr. Joe for years and are now bringing their new puppies in, are a testament to the trust and loyalty they inspire.

Customer feedback, both positive and negative, paints a picture of a practice that is both highly valued and, at times, faced with the challenges of providing care for a large community. While one long-term customer praises the staff for being "very kind, very helpful," and showing genuine love for the animals, another shares a devastating and deeply personal experience with their elderly, sick dog. This highlights a critical point for pet owners: for routine wellness and preventative care, especially for young, healthy pets, Staten Island Veterinary Group is a solid choice, with knowledgeable doctors like Dr. Joe and Dr. Kessler who are known for their thorough examinations and caring demeanor. However, for complex, urgent, or end-of-life care for a sick or elderly animal, some past clients have felt that the practice may not be equipped to handle these critical situations, and an emergency hospital referral might be a better option. It is clear that for many, the compassionate staff and their professional care for routine needs make it a top choice, but for specific, high-stakes medical crises, some pet owners have had different experiences.

Staten Island Veterinary Group is conveniently located at 3875 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314, USA. This central location makes it a practical choice for residents across the island. The facility is situated on a main thoroughfare, making it easily accessible for drop-offs and appointments. To ensure a comfortable and inclusive experience for all clients, the clinic offers a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot. These features show a commitment to serving the entire community, ensuring that everyone can easily bring their pets in for care.

It is important for pet parents to note that Staten Island Veterinary Group operates on an appointment-based system. Appointments are either required or highly recommended, which helps the clinic manage patient flow and reduces wait times. This structured approach ensures that each pet receives the dedicated time and attention needed for a thorough examination and consultation. The convenience of the location, combined with a clear and efficient planning process, makes a visit to the vet as smooth as possible for both you and your pet. The cleanliness of the facility and the organization of the staff further contribute to a professional and stress-free environment.

Staten Island Veterinary Group offers an extensive range of veterinary services, from routine care to advanced medical and surgical treatments, catering to the complete health needs of pets.

  • Comprehensive Preventative Care: Services include annual exams, vaccinations for puppies and kittens, heartworm prevention and testing, individualized flea and tick control programs, and parasite testing.

  • Urgent Care and Emergency Referral: While they are not a 24/7 emergency hospital, they can provide immediate care during business hours and offer emergency referrals to other veterinary facilities when necessary.

This wide array of services ensures that Staten Island Veterinary Group can be a long-term partner in your pet’s healthcare journey.
