What is worth choosing:
For residents in Washington, the Petco in Covington offers a convenient and comprehensive solution for many pet-related needs. The store's biggest strength is its sheer variety and accessibility. It stocks a wide array of products for all types of pets, which can save a lot of time and effort for people who own multiple animals or have specific needs, such as for reptiles or tropical fish. The availability of multiple service options, including delivery and curbside pickup, is a huge benefit for customers with busy schedules or those who prefer a contactless experience. This flexibility makes it easy to get what you need, when you need it. The store’s commitment to physical accessibility, with features like wheelchair accessible entrances and restrooms, is also a significant factor, making it a welcoming place for all members of the community.
However, it is important for customers to be aware that the quality of service can vary. As with any large retail chain, individual experiences can depend heavily on the specific staff members on duty. Some customer reviews have highlighted concerns regarding staff responsiveness and the quality of specific services like grooming. For example, one review mentioned difficulty getting assistance in the aquatic section, with a wait time of approximately 20 minutes, and another detailed a disappointing grooming experience for a Bichon. These reviews suggest that while the store provides a lot of conveniences, customers may need to be proactive in seeking out assistance and communicating their specific needs clearly. The store's large size and busy nature can sometimes lead to staff being occupied, which might impact the level of personal attention a customer receives. Therefore, while Petco in Covington is an excellent choice for its wide selection of products and convenient services, customers should set realistic expectations regarding personalized, one-on-one assistance. It is a reliable resource for pet supplies and basic services, and for many in the area, it remains a primary destination for their pet care needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This location has not met my expectations for customer service on multiple occasions. During my recent visits, I encountered several challenges that left me disappointed. On one occasion, I visited to purchase a replacement fish after the passing of my previous one. While selecting the appropriate fish in the aquatic section, I attempted to call the store for assistance. The associate who answered appeared confused by the call rather than me coming to the front to ask for help. During our brief interaction, I tried engaging in small talk, but the associate was largely unresponsive and seemed disengaged. I then moved to the tank to indicate which fish I wanted, and once he completed bagging the fish, he offered a generic goodbye. Unfortunately, I found the entire interaction discouraging and chose to say "there's no need to be nice now when this whole interaction was off putting."Subsequently, I requested to speak with a manager or supervisor, as I felt my concerns had not been adequately addressed. I had the opportunity to meet the store’s general manager, who dismissed my feedback and suggested that I was being overly passive toward the staff member involved. I was also informed that the associate had a hearing impairment. If this is the case, it would be helpful for the store to communicate such information to customers to ensure appropriate interactions. On a later visit, I hoped to find the items I needed in stock. During my time in the aquatic section, I observed other customers seeking assistance. A staff member was approached to help one individual, but no further support was offered to others present. Despite efforts by customers to signal for help, no staff members responded for an extended period. I waited approximately 20 minutes, observing the lack of assistance, and ultimately chose to retrieve a few aquatic plants myself. I was upfront with the checkout associate about my action. She expressed concern and advised me not to do that in the future, suggesting I should have asked for help. I explained that staff had not been available to assist, which impacted my shopping experience. Additionally, she seemed to suspect I had tampered with the plant tags, which was unnecessary.I believe the store could improve the customer experience significantly by implementing systems such as a paging or buzzer system for staff to alert them when assistance is needed. Providing better proactive support would ensure customers feel welcomed and valued during their shopping experience.
August 17 · Nicola MarieWe had a Shiba Inu and a Bichon here this afternoon to bath and cut the Shiba Inu's nails and Grooming the Bichon, but their service was disappointing. At about 5pm this evening , we went to the store to pick up my dogs, and when I saw my Bichon I couldn't believe she was my dog, she had completely changed her appearance. They said the Shiba Inu wouldn't let them cut his nails, so they didn't cut the Shiba Inu's nails, and said the Bichon's hair on the head and neck was too long, so they have too cut the Bichon's hair very short, I really didn't like the style they did for my Bichon, and I think they just used the recommendation to cut the hair short, not using scissors to trim it carefully, they didn't even comb the curls before cutting, so the dog's hair looked like the picture, the hair was curled together, and when I handed the dog to her, I reminded her to remember to clean the stray hair from the ears, but she didn't clean it. I have never seen a Bichon Frise styled and groomed like this, it is so ugly, I can feel that the stylist did not put her heart into the job, not carefully, just used the fastest way to cut the hair short with clippers, I will not go to this shop again, I give her service a score of 1
February 20 · Jinhong WuThis evening my wife went into Petco with our little dog and was literally insulted and accused of stealing by the Manager of the store. When she brought in our dog wearing an item that was purchased from their store months ago, she refused to believe that she came in wearing it and was very pushy and rude saying we've got cameras and when my wife went to pay another employee also mentioned that she was stealing the harness that we purchased months ago and then decided to insult her by saying that the money that she was using to purchase items looked fake which it wasn't. I work hard for my money and quite honestly we will be returning all the items that my wife bought from your guys's store today because she and I both feel that it was very unprofessional and very very rude the way that she was treated and I would like the manager to be reprimanded honestly if she was even a manager.
September 05 · Ty FairleyVery clean, organized store. The best part of that particular store is the great staff that work there. They were friendly and kept a smile and good attitude from start to finish. So helpful! I had them running around that whole store. And I must have bothered them with a million questions throughout my shopping. I took up a large portion of their time for sure. A store could have the best item that I can get but if the customer service is poor I'm not coming back and I definitely will pass the word. But now I always go out of my way to go to that one (return customer). And I've been sharing with all my pet loving friends. When people (most) have a pleasant experience and are happy, you gain in all ways. Poor service, you lose huge. No amount of advertising can beat word of mouth. I'm a lifer at that store as long as I'm treated right. I even signed up for some things, and I very rarely do that anywhere!! P.S. even the groom staff were positive and helpful! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK COVINGTON PETCO!!!
April 25 · Lisa AbbottOur local store. The folks there are great and ready to help. Me and my fur babies appreciate Petco and its programs like puppy training and ways to give back to the animal protection community.
