BluePearl Pet Hospital, located in the borough's Gowanus neighborhood, is a cornerstone of advanced veterinary medicine and emergency care. This is not a typical local veterinarian you visit for an annual check-up, but a comprehensive animal hospital designed to handle critical cases and specialized medical needs. With board-certified specialists in numerous fields, BluePearl serves as a vital resource, often working in conjunction with a pet’s primary care veterinarian to provide a higher level of treatment for serious or chronic conditions. They are equipped with the advanced technology and expert staff necessary to tackle everything from a sudden trauma to a long-term neurological issue. For any pet owner in New York facing a frightening or complex medical situation with their animal, BluePearl offers a beacon of hope and a team of professionals dedicated to their pet’s well-being.
The facility’s reputation is built on a foundation of compassion and expertise, as evidenced by the heartfelt testimonials from clients. One client shared a harrowing story of their cat’s back-to-back urinary obstructions, highlighting the stress and emotional toll of the experience. They praised the staff, from receptionists to vet techs to doctors, for their kindness and professionalism. The review specifically calls out Dr. Patricia Joyce for her "incredibly kind and extremely helpful" nature, and for her empathy and dedication in navigating a series of consultations and a complex surgical decision. Another review from a different client echoed this sentiment, praising every staff member for being "engaging, proactive, communicated clearly, and addressed my pet's care efficiently and confidently." These testimonials underscore the core mission of BluePearl: to not only provide top-tier medical care but to also offer comfort and clear communication during a pet's most vulnerable moments. The hospital's ability to seamlessly manage a shift change while keeping the owner informed demonstrates a high level of operational professionalism and a deep commitment to patient and client care. This blend of medical excellence and genuine compassion is what makes BluePearl an invaluable part of the New York pet care community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I just want to start off by thanking everyone at BluePearl, from the receptionists to the vet techs to the doctors, who were all incredibly kind and extremely helpful from the get-go. My partner and I's orange cat experienced a series of back-to-back urinary obstructions that just seemingly came out nowhere (no prior health conditions either). While we initially brought our baby to a local vet for consult, we were ultimately told he would need to be seen at the nearest hospital which happened to be BluePearl. For context, our cat experienced his first urinary obstruction around mid-January and he was in and out of the hospital until the beginning of February. It was an excruciatingly stressful three weeks of wondering if he would be able to make it.Throughout all of this, there is one person that I cannot thank enough and that is Dr. Patricia Joyce. We had two different doctors during our initial visits, but Dr. Joyce eventually became our main point-of-contact regarding our little baby's health and we trusted her wholeheartedly with every consultation and suggestion on the way. I could tell that she loved what she did, she loved every pet that came into that facility, and our cat was no different. Dr. Joyce was extremely helpful and empathetic with what we were going through and helped us navigate every decision we had to make at the time. Even during times where we all felt hopeless and wondered if euthanasia would be best for our cat, Dr Joyce empathized with us, while also doing her best to figure out what was causing his urinary obstructions and figuring out how she could best treat him and overcome this. After numerous scans and tests, we were able to decide that a cystotomy surgery was necessary to help our little baby move forward and begin his healing process, and Dr Joyce went above and beyond to help us coordinate a surgery appointment ASAP with a different hospital. Even then, when we were in the care of a different facility, Dr Joyce reached out to us and we were able to keep her updated every step of the way. After a long two months from when this all started, along with 40 days of antibiotics, I am extremely glad to say that our cat is alive and thriving! (which is something I couldn't even dream was possible during the entire fiasco). The day I am writing this is actually the day we brought our cat back to BluePearl for his follow-up checkup after he finished his antibiotics, so we are still very much navigating through his healing journey. Again, Dr Joyce took great care of him, evaluating his condition, and discussing further recovery care with us. We are so so so grateful for everything that she and BluePearl have done for us and fingers crossed to a smooth recovery for our little catto! And huge shoutout to the receptionists and vet techs who saw us hanging around in the waiting room for hours on end in the beginning, while we waited for our cat to be seen and waiting for the consultations! Even though it was such a stressful time for us, you all still managed to help keep everything a little light-hearted when bringing us to the consult rooms and discharging.
March 27 · Avery LiI brought my cat in earlier Sunday morning (7/27), and every staff member I interacted with was engaging, proactive, communicated clearly, and addressed my pet's care efficiently and confidently. I felt like I could trust and rely on the staff to take excellent care of my pet, which meant a lot to me during an emergency situation. Even when there was a shift change Sunday morning, the staff communicated about it with me directly and made sure I was confident the new vet understood our situation and the treatment up until that point. Unfortunately, I don't remember staff members' names except for Michelle at the front desk, but I appreciate each of them.
July 31 · Sean Valle(Context: first time visit for a cardiologist for my cat.) From start to follow-up, every step of the way was great! The providers and staff at BluePearl Pet Hospital were professional and friendly. I felt that my cat was in absolutely great hands! Setting up the appointment for a specialist visit over the phone was smooth. On the day of the appointment, the check-in process was very easy (and the location of the office was very easy to get to). The vet assistant who did the initial intake was so friendly and attentive to my responses to her questions. She was very informative and explained the breakdown of the costs of the visit. The cardiologist, Dr. Gretchen Singletary, had wonderful bedside manners and took her time explaining everything to me and making sure to discuss all options for care. She also made me feel very comfortable asking questions during and after the appointment. And the follow-up calls after the visit were just as great.I highly recommend BluePearl Pet Hospital.
August 13 · Kelly GraciaOur 20 month old puppy was attacked out of no where by a pit bull on the street at 8pm at night. We were thankfully able to get the dog off his leg - it was very traumatic and we raced to blue pearl after a quick google search and I’m so glad we did. They were fast, caring and thorough. Pricing was transparent, we have pet insurance thank God and we had our puppy home by 12am. Great emergency vet.
August 28 · Christina Lucia GiuffridaThe staff was friendly and welcoming. However, I was very disappointed with my recent visit. I brought my dog in because she had been scratching excessively and had injured herself to the point of bleeding. I expected some form of immediate relief or treatment, but instead, I was charged $355 only to be told that she would need additional testing—something I was already aware of, which is why I brought her in.Due to it being so expensive for me at the moment They recommended a head cone collar which costed $61 for the collar and $40 for shampoo to stop her from scratching but provided no substantial care during the visit. I was also informed that determining the underlying issue would cost approximately $1,500, which was unexpected and quite overwhelming. While I understand that diagnostic work can be expensive, I wish the process and costs had been communicated more transparently from the start.
