Journey's End Introduce
In the heart of New Hampshire, for pet owners facing one of the most difficult decisions of their lives, there is a beacon of hope and compassion: Journey's End. This specialized veterinary service, led by Dr. Sharon Sernik, is dedicated exclusively to providing a serene and loving transition for beloved pets. Unlike a traditional veterinary clinic, Journey's End focuses on end-of-life care, including hospice services, pain management, and at-home euthanasia. The mission is to ensure that a pet's final moments are spent in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by their family, free from the stress and anxiety of a clinic environment. This unique approach fills a critical need for many families throughout Merrimack and the wider New Hampshire community, offering a professional yet deeply personal experience during a time of immense grief. The business understands that saying goodbye to a cherished companion is a profound and painful process, and their goal is to provide a gentle, dignified, and loving farewell. Their focus on this specific, vital area of veterinary medicine makes them an indispensable resource for pet parents when the time comes to make this heartbreaking decision.
Journey's End is based out of Box 1691, Merrimack, NH 03054, USA. What makes this practice particularly accessible and compassionate is its primary service model of house calls. Rather than requiring pet owners to transport their ailing or suffering pet to a physical clinic, Dr. Sernik brings her expert and caring services directly to the home. This "at-home euthanasia" model is a core tenet of their practice, significantly reducing stress for both the pet and the family. While the provided address is a mailing location, the service itself is mobile, serving a wide geographical area within New Hampshire. For those who do need to visit a physical location for planning or discussions, the practice ensures accessibility with a wheelchair accessible parking lot. However, the true convenience lies in their willingness to travel to their clients, providing unparalleled comfort and support exactly where it is needed most. Appointments are highly recommended to ensure the highest level of care and personal attention, and to allow the team to prepare for each unique situation.
Journey's End offers a comprehensive suite of services tailored to support pets and their families during the final stages of life.
- At-Home Euthanasia: This is a cornerstone of the practice, providing a peaceful and dignified passing for pets in their familiar home environment. The process is handled with the utmost care, compassion, and respect.
- Pet Hospice Care: For pets with chronic diseases or those who are nearing the end of their lives, hospice care focuses on providing comfort, pain control, and a high quality of life. This includes medical care, nursing care, and physical therapy to manage symptoms.
- Pain and Palliative Care: A key component of both hospice and end-of-life care, this service focuses on managing pain and providing comfort to senior pets or those with terminal illnesses.
- Grief Support and Pet Memorials: The practice understands the emotional toll of losing a pet. They offer resources for grief support and options for pet memorials, including both private and group cremation services, as well as connections to a pet cemetery.
- Senior Pet Care: For aging pets, they provide specialized care plans that address the unique challenges of senior pets, including recheck exams for chronic conditions and managing transmissible diseases.
- Consultation and Support: Dr. Sernik and her team offer compassionate guidance for pet parents as they navigate the difficult decisions surrounding their pet's health and end of life. They focus on truly getting to know the pet and their life, making the experience feel incredibly personal and loving.
The services provided by Journey's End stand out for several important reasons that make them a preferred choice for many New Hampshire pet owners.
- Compassionate and Personal Approach: Customer reviews consistently highlight the deep tenderness and care provided by Dr. Sernik. She takes the time to get to know the pet and their family, turning a painful process into a heartfelt act of love and dignity.
- At-Home Convenience: The house call model is a significant feature. It eliminates the need to transport a sick or suffering pet, allowing them to remain in a comfortable and familiar setting for their final moments, which greatly reduces their stress.
- Holistic End-of-Life Care: The practice offers a full spectrum of services from hospice and pain management to grief support and memorialization. This comprehensive approach ensures that families are supported through every stage of this difficult transition.
- Specialization in End-of-Life: By focusing exclusively on hospice and euthanasia, Journey's End has developed a high level of expertise in this sensitive field. This specialization ensures the highest quality of care and attention to every detail.
- Unwavering Dignity: Customers praise the way Dr. Sernik handles the entire process, making the pet feel loved and cherished until the very end. The focus is always on the pet's comfort and dignity, providing a beautiful and peaceful farewell.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Thank you so much to Dr. Sharon for providing us with compassionate, safe, and connected final moments with our incredible dog, Clyde. You know if you've experienced it, that this is some of the worst pain you'll ever feel, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. When the moment comes to say goodbye, choosing someone you can trust to be there with comfort and love can be a challenge.Dr. Sharon helped us navigate the heart-breaking experience with such a deep tenderness, reviving some of our favorite memories, and the utmost care. She pays attention to every single detail, reassuring us that our Clyde was in loving and skilled hands.Thank you so much, Dr. Sharon and team for everything, we know our Clyde is resting peacefully and crossed over the Rainbow Bridge showered in love. ❤️
August 10 · Emily AbornDr Sernik was incredibly compassionate and caring end-of-life provider for our beloved 14-year old yellow lab Bella. I anguished over this decision after having lost our 12-year old Vizsla, Lacie just the previous week to cancer. Dr Sernik was so loving and kind in all aspects of her care of Bella as well as her compassion for all of us. She truly wanted to know about what Bella enjoyed (food, HA) and what her life was like. Our whole family and extended family were there to wish Bella safe passage and Dr Sernik made the whole thing feel like an incredible act of love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving Bella her dignity (and lots of yummy treats) in the end. No detail was missed in her loving care. Please don’t hesitate to call Journey’s End when that time comes for your best (pet) friend.
June 13 · Jennifer SummersAbsolutely the best most intimate moment with your animal ! I would do this again with any of my animals 10/10 !! The Dr. was so amazing! She gave us time love on her , now we have her hair and paw prints ❤️🩹 for life 🙏
August 26 · kate McCradySadly we lost a very special guy today. It’s so hard to have to say goodbye to a 4-legged family member. One of the hardest goodbyes, as far as I’m concerned. Banner was the 6th dog within my immediate family, that Dr. Sernik has helped us with, crossing over to rainbow bridge!I cannot express through words how amazing she is. Sometimes in careers, we can become desensitized a bit however this is never the case for her!! Dr. Sernik has such an unbelievable calming way about her. She is so compassionate and kind. She relates to families and connects with stories of her own rescue pets, past & present! We feel so fortunate she was able to help us once again in the privacy of our own home. Stress free and where family members and all the other pets of our home could be present once he crossed over to rainbow bridge, then having the chance to say goodbye. There was zero pressure, no rushing just all the time we needed and at our pace. She gave us a beautiful memory book, she molded Banner’s Frito toes for us in a framed memory box. She also gave us enough stamped paper paw prints so we could give them to the extended littles in the family, that didn’t get the chance to say goodbye. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU Dr. Sernik, thank you for your compassion, time, experience and most especially.. your LOVE of dogs. Run free Banner boy!
January 13 · Marley O'BrienDr. Sernik is a god send! Losing a pet is never easy but it was so peaceful and stress free. The most dignified way for our sweet boy to leave us. Highly recommend at home euthanasia with Dr. Sernik over a visit to the vets office. We would both like to thank her for her wonderful service and treating our little man with such kindness in his last moments ❤️ God bless you!
