Beltway Aquarium Introduce
For many aquarists in Maryland, the search for a local store that offers a specific selection of fish and the necessary supplies can be a journey. Beltway Aquarium, a small business located in Waldorf, serves as a destination for those interested in the fascinating world of aquatic life. As both a tropical fish store and a general pet store, it provides a variety of options for hobbyists, from those just starting out to experienced keepers. The store focuses on the in-person shopping experience, allowing customers to see the fish and products firsthand. It's a place designed for a quick and efficient visit, making it a convenient stop for pet owners in the Charles County area who need to pick up essential supplies or find a new addition for their tank.
The local pet store scene in Maryland offers a diverse range of options, and Beltway Aquarium carves out its niche by providing a selection that caters to specific interests, particularly those of Cichlid enthusiasts. This specialization is a key part of their identity and helps them stand out to a dedicated community of aquarists. A customer review highlighted this, noting the store "have some great Cichlid," which is a significant draw for people who are passionate about this type of fish. In a market often dominated by large retail chains, a small business like Beltway Aquarium offers a more focused and potentially unique inventory.
However, it is important for prospective customers to be aware of the varied experiences reported in online reviews. While some customers find what they are looking for, others have raised concerns regarding the store’s conditions and customer service. One review expressed a highly negative experience, citing "horrible inhabitable conditions" for the fish, a "roach infestation," and "very nasty" customer service. The review also mentioned a fish dying the same day it was purchased. This feedback, while critical, is an important part of a complete picture and highlights the importance of visiting a store in person to make your own judgment. The store’s business model is centered on a quick, in-person visit, and for those interested in a specific type of fish, it may be a valuable stop.

What is worth choosing:
When deciding on a pet store, especially one specializing in a niche like tropical fish, it's important to consider both the positives and negatives. Beltway Aquarium is worth considering for a few key reasons, particularly for the local aquarist community in Maryland. The store’s specialization in Cichlids is a significant draw for hobbyists who may have a hard time finding a good selection of these fish elsewhere. For someone looking for a specific type of fish for their collection, a store like this can be an invaluable resource. The store’s quick-visit format is also a major plus for those who are experienced aquarists and simply need to pick up a few items without the hassle of a larger, more crowded store. The convenience of in-store pickup and modern payment options further adds to this no-fuss approach.
However, it is crucial for a potential customer to approach this store with an open mind and to conduct their own assessment. The negative review about the store’s conditions and customer service cannot be ignored and should be a factor in your decision. It is highly recommended that you visit the store in person to see the state of the tanks and interact with the staff to form your own opinion. For those who prioritize finding a specific type of fish and are willing to navigate a potentially crowded space, as one review noted, Beltway Aquarium may still offer a worthwhile experience. It's a place that serves a particular community of enthusiasts, and for that community, it remains a relevant local option.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Avoid this place like the plague! They keep these fish in horrible inhabitable conditions. The have a roach infestation. Let’s not forget the worst part… customer service!!! I bought a fish and the fish seemed to have a fungus infection, when I asked the gentleman about it he was very nasty. The fish died the same day I purchased it.
April 17 · Me'Chelle Carterbit crowded,have some great Cichlid
June 05 · Yuan TonyWhile they did have a lot of cichlids. They don't take care of their tanks and fish at all. There were dead and sick fish, green water, algae covered glass everywhere and the fish weren't labeled well. Every dry product is behind the counter like a liquor store. I was the only person in the store for 20 minutes. I don't know what the other reviews are talking about; they don't sell parrots or anything other than fish.
March 16 · Brandon KirályWhat a heartbreaking experience it was going into this store today. It is so cluttered and dirty and disgusting you can hardly walk. There were fish in home depot buckets on the ground practically folded in half because they're too big on the ground. There were tanks so dirty that you couldn't even see the fish inside! Turtles without heat lamps and no where to escape the water. Covered in their own poop. I really could go on. We left broken hearted for all the fish and aquatic creatures in there. I wish I could take them all home.
October 14 · JBuyer BEWARE!!! ….Someone should contact health inspector immediately…..Terrible customer service sold me a $100 Koi fish that died in 24 hours: This company would not honor the purchase and replace the fish. This fish was in the pond with with other smaller Koi fish and they all “lived”. This place is rip-off the fish they sold me was already sick and they sold it to me anyway!I have a beautiful pond with lots water features see picture attached
