The clinic's philosophy centers on providing quality medicine and surgery with a special emphasis on compassionate care. They believe in treating every pet like a valued member of the family. Customers often praise the veterinarians for not only examining the animals but also taking the time to educate the owners. This educational approach is a major highlight, as it empowers pet parents to become active participants in their pet’s health. For example, a client with a bearded dragon with an eye infection was taught by the vet how to remove the eye shed themselves, a testament to the clinic’s hands-on and empowering approach. This dedication to sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative relationship with clients is a significant aspect of their service.
However, as with any service provider, experiences can vary, and it is important to understand the full picture. While many clients report positive experiences with the veterinary staff, some have had challenging interactions with other parts of the business. It is crucial for pet owners to have clear communication about services, pricing structures, and expectations to ensure a smooth and positive visit. The core of the clinic's veterinary practice, however, remains focused on providing quality medical care and a compassionate environment for a variety of animals.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great vets! I bring all of my reptiles to them and unlike most exotic vets they are very reasonably priced. I always bring my kids with me if it’s their animal being seen because the veterinarian here not only examines your animal but also takes the time to educate you. A couple months ago I brought my bearded dragon in with an eye infection and shed stuck in her eye, the vet taught us how to remove the eye shed and had us do it ourselves. I wouldn’t take my exotic pets anywhere else.
September 03 · Tiffany ElliottThis was the worst “grooming” I have ever paid for. I recently moved to the area and called around for a local groomer for my terrier. The secretary at River Road assured me they had a professional groomer. I brought her in and told them I wanted her shaved. They asked if I needed her bathed too which I thought was strange - I’m my experience a grooming contains both a bath and cut. I told the groomer to shave her because of her matting. She asked if I wanted to keep her fluffy and I said if possible, sure but that I doubted she would be able to brush her out since she hates to be brushed. She said it would be about 1.5hrs. 3hrs later they said she was done. I picked her up in a rush because I had to get to a meeting. As I was paying I found out that the bath cost $50 and the cut was charged by the minute totaling $176. I hadn’t thought to ask if they would charge by the minute because I have never once encountered that before. When I got home I looked at her closely and was horrified. Instead of shaving her like I asked, they attempted to brush her, cut her unevenly, and shaved her to the skin in random spots. She looks horrific and still has a lot of matting all over. We called back immediately asking for a refund and were told that the doctor who could handle that was out. This morning we called back and were met with rude, aggressive dismissal and 3 doctors who refused to listen to the problem or offer any solutions. They hung up mid conversation and won’t pick up the phone. As someone new to the area this was a terrible welcome. I’m not sure what to do now.
September 20 · Scotia DettweilerI was given Dr. Dutton's name by a hairdresser when I didn't care for the place I was going. He worked with our cat, which we found had a rare condition. Dr. Dutton conscientiously pursued many avenues until he suggested we take a trip to a top pet hospital in Boston. They took various tests and discovered it was a rare form of skin cancer. We took her back to River Road to continue on a medication until we had to put her down in July. Dr. Dutton had been treating her with the proper medication after all, but there was nothing that could be done. He was caring and extremely thorough.
August 13 · Steven LedbetterWhen my teacup poodle fell down some stone steps and hit her head, it became clear something bad happened. I needed to go to an Emergency Vet immediately. I was a 35 minute drive away and was SO grateful that Dr. Chris Dutton came in after hours. He was very professional and helpful and clearly cared about animals. It's that kind of service to the community that makes River Road Veterinary Clinic an excellent place to bring your pets.
July 16 · TamarGot Smokey microchipped it got stuck when they inserted it and was told to keep an eye in case it backs out. I went there for worm treatment and shots etc. Ended up 260$ and nothing done except given a prescription for the worm medicine to go buy else where. There was no dosing written just 3 pills but I didn't know when or how often to administer. Took them a few days to get back to me about it.. like I hope future visits go along better
