My senior cat is in need of radiation therapy so my regular vet referred us here. We consulted with their radiation oncologist who examined our cat and quoted us a fee for treatment of $16,000 to $17,000. We went home to discuss our options and received a formal quote the following day of $22,900. When I responded to this inquiring as to why the verbal and written quotes were so different I was told by the doctor that he doesn’t set the prices. This is an unacceptable practice to me. A bait and switch that is played off of emotions. I was considering treatment at the cost of their initial estimate and everyone would have been happy. I would not recommend this office. They lack compassion and decency. - Jay Lubliner

VMCLI Radiation Oncology Introduce

Introduction / Overview

When a beloved pet is diagnosed with cancer, finding the right care can be an overwhelming and emotionally challenging experience. For residents of New York, particularly on Long Island, VMCLI Radiation Oncology offers a specialized and comprehensive resource for veterinary cancer treatment. As a dedicated cancer treatment center and a part of a larger veterinary medical facility, VMCLI provides a unique focus on advanced oncology. They are more than just a regular veterinary office; they are a team of specialists, including oncologists and radiation oncologists, committed to offering cutting-edge therapies and compassionate care. This level of specialization is crucial for pets needing advanced medical attention, distinguishing them as a key referral center for veterinarians across the region.

The mission of VMCLI Radiation Oncology is to provide sophisticated and effective treatment options for pets affected by cancer while prioritizing their comfort and quality of life. They work with a collaborative approach, ensuring that all aspects of a pet's health are considered. The facility integrates various departments—such as surgery, neurology, and internal medicine—to create cohesive, comprehensive care plans. This multi-specialist approach means that pets receive a tailored treatment strategy that considers their entire health profile, not just the cancer itself. Their commitment to using advanced diagnostics and therapies underscores their role as a leader in veterinary medicine in the New York metropolitan area.

Location and Accessibility

VMCLI Radiation Oncology is located at 75 Sunrise Hwy North Service Rd, West Islip, NY 11795, USA. This location on Long Island makes it a critical resource for pet owners in Suffolk County and surrounding areas who may not have access to such highly specialized veterinary services in their immediate vicinity. The facility is situated on a major highway, providing convenient access for those traveling from different parts of Long Island or even further. While the journey may be longer for some, the specialized care offered makes it a necessary destination for pet parents facing a serious diagnosis.

The facility is committed to being accessible to all clients, which is an important consideration for pet owners who may be managing a sick or elderly animal. VMCLI provides a wheelchair accessible entrance, a wheelchair accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair accessible restroom. These amenities ensure that pet owners with mobility challenges can navigate the facility with ease and focus on what's most important: their pet's care. For planning a visit, VMCLI recommends appointments, which helps them manage their specialized caseload and ensures that each patient receives the dedicated time and attention required for complex medical consultations and treatments.

Services Offered

  • Veterinary Oncology and Radiation Therapy: As a primary service, they specialize in radiation oncology, offering advanced therapies such as Stereotactic Radiation (SRS/SRT) and conventionally fractionated radiation therapy (CFRT). These are targeted treatments aimed at destroying cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue.
  • Advanced Diagnostics and Imaging: The center utilizes state-of-the-art technology, including CT scans and ultrasonography, to accurately diagnose and stage cancer. This precision is vital for creating effective treatment plans.
  • Surgical Oncology: They provide cancer surgery and collaborate with their surgery department to offer a full spectrum of surgical procedures to remove tumors and manage cancer progression.
  • Comprehensive Internal Medicine: Their team includes specialists in veterinary internal medicine, allowing them to manage complex medical conditions and provide holistic care for pets with cancer, which often affects multiple body systems.
  • Pain Management and Palliative Care: They focus on managing a pet's comfort and quality of life through advanced pain management techniques and palliative radiation therapy, especially in cases where a cure is not the primary goal.
  • Supportive Therapies: The center offers a wide array of supportive and complementary treatments, including acupuncture for pets, traditional Chinese medicine, nutritional consultations, and physical rehabilitation to aid in a pet's recovery and overall well-being.

For New Yorkers who have received a difficult cancer diagnosis for their pet, choosing VMCLI Radiation Oncology is a decision to seek specialized and expert care. While the emotional and financial aspects of such a journey can be daunting, the facility’s focus on advanced diagnostics and treatment provides a real sense of hope. The collaborative nature of their practice, where they work closely with your family veterinarian, is a crucial benefit. This team-based approach ensures continuity of care and a well-rounded treatment plan.
