What makes Forest Lake Pets truly special are its unique features and the positive atmosphere it cultivates. The store is celebrated as a "real Pet store from days gone by," evoking a sense of nostalgia for a more personal and community-oriented shopping experience. One of the most significant highlights is their specialization in aquatic life. As "Minnesota's largest local fish shop," they boast an incredible variety of fish and aquatics that are a "wonder to look at." The presence of unique and rare species, like the "big ol African Lung Fish," makes the store a destination in itself. Customers also consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, who are "willing to talk about whatever I need help with." This level of personal connection is invaluable, especially for new pet owners or those with specific questions about a particular species. The competitive pricing is another key feature, with customers noting that prices are "very low compared with big corporate stores." While a customer with a disability mentioned wishing for a place to sit and rest, they were quick to acknowledge that this was a personal issue and did not detract from their overall positive rating of the store. This speaks volumes about the high quality of the store and its offerings.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I absolutely adore this store. Huge variety and great pricing compared to your average big box store. Well worth the 30-ish minute drive I make from the cities. Staff have always been friendly to me and willing to talk about whatever I need help with (a huge plus as a young person with social anxiety!) The place is huge! Their selection of fish is always a wonder to look at and I especially love to see their big ol African Lung Fish. Only wish from me is that I wish there was a place to sit for a moment. Being at the store is normally a longer endeavor for me and being disabled I find it really hard to look at all I want to without a place to sit for a moment to rest. I certainly won’t let that effect my rating though since that’s a very *me* issue.
March 24 · Aspen WilsonI thought this store seems like a hidden gem. Reminds me of real Pet stores from days gone by. It is jam packed with pets. Fish look very healthy and prices looked to be very low compared with big corporate stores. Staff were friendly even knowing we came to look and not buy today.
April 24 · Thomas MartiniThis is such a cool pet store with a huge variety of fish I have Nver seen and I love bringing the kids to see all of them. my Favorite that i get there is the mystery snails
September 02 · Bre RanumI drive here from south Minneapolis a couple months ago and bought two discus. Because of the blue bag I couldn’t tell until I got home that one was the wrong fish, and the other was sick. I drove the 45 minutes to bring the fish back but the fish I wanted was already sold. So the store offered me half off on my next two fish.Today I drove up from south Minneapolis looking for discus again and walked in the store needing to use the bathroom. I told them I drove up from the city. They said no public bathroom, which is fine, and sent me to the building next door. When I came back a few minutes later the store was closed and the doors were locked. None of the 3 employees at the deal said “hurry back” or “We’re closing in 5 minutes”. So now Im sitting in the parking lot after m making my 3rd trip up here and my second unsuccessful trip in a row. I’m not coming back again. 3 hours wasted on the road now due to employees not caring.
September 06 · Jason SmithGreat fish. Mike has to be one of the most arrogant people I've ever met. This rating is for his fake service he gives me every time. It's not a day at forest lake Pets until Mike takes words out of my mouth and tries to sell me something I don't want. Listening in sales helps... a lot... for the salesman.
