San Jose Reptile Show (June 21 & 22) Introduce
For reptile enthusiasts and curious families across California, the San Jose Reptile Show is more than just a retail event—it's a massive, two-day celebration of all things scaly, slithery, and fascinating. As the Bay Area's largest reptile extravaganza, this show brings together thousands of live animals, from snakes and lizards to amphibians and invertebrates, all under one roof. The show serves as a direct link between passionate breeders, knowledgeable vendors, and the public, providing a unique opportunity to see, learn about, and purchase exotic pets and all the supplies needed to care for them. It’s a small business at its heart, a family-run enterprise dedicated to expanding the love for the hobby to as many people as possible, including the next generation of hobbyists and conservationists. Unlike a typical brick-and-mortar pet store, the San Jose Reptile Show offers an unparalleled variety and a chance to interact with a vast community of like-minded individuals, making it a must-attend event for anyone with an interest in herpetology.
The experience of attending a reptile show is about more than just shopping; it's about connecting with a community. Attendees have the unique chance to talk directly with the breeders who raised the animals, ask in-depth questions about care, and observe the animals in person before making a purchase. This is a significant advantage over online ordering, where you often can't see the animal's health and temperament firsthand. The event also provides a chance to stock up on supplies, often at prices that are better than online stores, without the added fees and shipping costs. While a large-scale event can come with its own set of challenges, the organizers and vendors work to ensure a positive and educational experience for everyone. The show’s commitment to providing a safe and comfortable environment, with proper air conditioning and security checks, is a key part of its appeal. This overview will provide a detailed look at what makes the San Jose Reptile Show a standout event for the California community, covering its location, the incredible variety of its offerings, and the key highlights that make it a worthwhile experience for every visitor.
The San Jose Reptile Show is held at the Fairgrounds Expo Hall, with parking available at Gate A (across the street from 344 Tully Rd, San Jose, CA 95111, USA). This location at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds provides ample space for the large number of vendors and attendees that the show attracts. For accessibility, the event is well-equipped to welcome all guests. The venue features both a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges can navigate the show with ease. While parking at the fairgrounds can come with a fee, local residents have the option of using public transportation, such as the bus, to avoid this cost. One of the main challenges for attendees, as noted in customer reviews, has been the lines for entry, particularly for those who purchased tickets online. The organizers could improve the process by implementing QR codes for online tickets to make entry quicker and more efficient. Despite this, once inside, the hall is properly air-conditioned, a crucial feature given the potential for high temperatures in the California summer.
The San Jose Reptile Show is a one-stop-shop for a wide variety of reptile-related needs. Since it's a show, not a traditional store, the "services" are the collective offerings of all the vendors and breeders present. These include:
- The sale of thousands of live reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, from common species like ball pythons and bearded dragons to more unique and rare creatures.
- Direct access to breeders, allowing customers to purchase animals straight from the source. This enables a detailed discussion about the animal’s history, genetics, and care.
- A vast selection of reptile supplies, including enclosures, substrate, heating elements, lighting, and specialized tools.
- Sale of feeder insects and rodents, with many vendors offering fresh and frozen options.
- Exhibition of live animals, providing an opportunity for observation and learning even if you're not planning to buy.
- Educational opportunities, as many vendors and exhibitors are happy to share their knowledge and passion with attendees.
- A wide variety of plants and decor for creating bioactive enclosures and naturalistic habitats.
- A selection of art, crafts, and apparel inspired by reptiles and other exotic animals.
The San Jose Reptile Show stands out in the California pet community due to several key features that enhance the experience for enthusiasts. These highlights demonstrate why this event has become a Bay Area tradition for many. The following are some of the most notable aspects that make the show a great choice for attendees:
- The sheer scale and variety of the show are unparalleled in the region. With thousands of animals and a vast number of vendors, it offers a selection that is impossible to find in a single store.
- Attendees have the unique ability to observe and choose animals in person, which is a significant advantage over online purchases. This allows for a more informed decision on the health and temperament of a potential new pet.
- Prices from sellers are often very competitive and can be better than online stores, as they eliminate shipping and other fees. This provides a great opportunity for savings.
- The show offers a direct connection to the breeding community, providing access to animals with known genetics and history.
- The event prioritizes safety, with proper security checks for contrabands, which is appreciated by families attending with children.
- The venue is climate-controlled, ensuring a comfortable experience for both attendees and the animals, which is especially important during a heat advisory.
- While it's important to bring cash, many vendors accept credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, providing flexible payment options.

The opportunity to see, touch, and learn about a huge variety of animals in person is invaluable. This direct interaction with breeders and vendors fosters trust and provides a level of care and knowledge that is simply not available through other means. The prices, which are often better than online, make it a smart place to make a purchase, and the ability to choose your animal in person ensures you get a healthy, well-cared-for pet. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Unpleasant experience of getting into the show. Long lines of security checks followed by another insanely long lines of getting inside for online purchased tickets. Ridiculously the lines for onsite tickets purchases are 10 times shorter. Unfair experience. They could have generated QR code for each online purchased ticket to fasten the process
June 22 · Eva WuThis was my first Reptile Show. The parking is $20, if you live locally just ride the bus there. I was disappointed on how they handled the lines on Saturday (6/22/24). I wish they start using QR codes for their online purchased passes since everyone uses their cellphones anyway. There was also a heat advisory that day and it was really unpleasant.I loved how they checked each attendee for contrabands since there were a lot of children present. There is proper air conditioning once inside. The prices from the sellers were great, better than online stores minus the fees and shipping! You can also observe and choose the animals before purchasing. The only thing I can suggest is to bring cash with you, some of them don't take credit cards and are very limited to e-payment options. A lot of attendees have folding carts with them to carry their purchases back to their cars.
June 28 · Drew WhispershadeThis show has more supplies than the one in pleasnton and seems to have more reptiles to in my opinion.
March 22 · Sharon HenagarGot to hold a ton of lizards and snakes . So much fun
June 23 · Manish BedekarDue to the Covid 19 variant they cancelled 2021 showSorry for that. I really wanted to go.
