What is worth choosing
Choosing Secondhand Pet Supply is a decision to support a unique and valuable business model that benefits not only your wallet but also the planet. What makes this store truly worth choosing for Portland residents is its powerful combination of affordability and mission. In a world of large, impersonal pet store chains, this non-profit offers a personal touch and a tangible positive impact. The ability to find a custom-sized tank for a snail at a fraction of the retail cost, for example, highlights the incredible value you can find here. While some may find the unmarked pricing to be an issue, the staff's friendly assistance in providing prices and a willingness to help with specific requests more than makes up for it. The store's commitment to saving pet owners money and reducing pet-related waste resonates deeply with the values of many Oregonians.
Furthermore, by choosing to shop here, you are directly supporting a small, diverse-owned business with a clear community focus. The mission of rescuing and rehoming retired research animals and the practice of accepting donations for upcycling shows a level of dedication to animal welfare and sustainability that is rare. For those who care about ethical shopping and making a positive environmental impact, this store is an ideal choice. The on-site services, easy accessibility, and convenient location in a major shopping center make it a practical and guilt-free destination for all your pet supply needs. Secondhand Pet Supply is more than a store; it's a movement, and a great addition to the Portland pet community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Really love this spot now; saw SPS a few times in passing whilst in the Lloyd Center. Now I'm very happy I checked it out before shopping at any other pet store today! One of the few with a wide variety of pet items that aren't just for cats & dogs, all while still being super affordable. Got a custom smaller sized tank for $30, plus some extra & really cute enclosure stuff for my snail. It could've easily cost me a $100+ at any other retail petstore. Sounds crazy but it's true!Would also like mention I was assisted every step of the way as well. Even my absurd request for "something to put a snail in" was met with friendly assistance:-)TLDR: Great prices & great service. Here are some tank pictures for proof of quality. Thanks again!
May 10 · rayOkay shopping experience. I don't love that prices aren't marked. I think there are good deals on some items but the owner priced some things I was interested in in the same price I can get for new at HomeGoods or online. I like the sustainability aspect of the store but I didn't love my shopping experience.
June 08 · T TI cannot recommend Secondhand Pet Supply enough! Finding this place was a blessing because my partner and I are about to adopt two kittens, and we didn't have any kitty gear yet. The owner greeted us and, upon finding out we needed basically everything to care for our kitties, he took the time to walk us around the store & his storage unit, make recommendations as to what supplies we would need, and really showed sincerity and care in wanting to set us up for success in being cat moms! The pricing was very fair - he would look up current published cost for the items and give us a solid discount off of that. We ended up saving so much by buying everything from him instead of new. One of the best things is that if we no longer need the supplies we bought or our kitties don't like it/grow out of it, we can take it back to the store and swap it for something else of equal or lesser value! And even if donations are broken or ruined, they'll upcycle it into new supplies or fix it. Such a gem of a business to find that is focused on supporting the pet community - I highly recommend it to anyone that is looking for pet gear!
June 28 · Janette RicoWeird experience, the items have no prices listed on the floor and the owner uses his phone to find the product online and sells it to you for half of that cost. I would rather that work be done ahead of time and price labels be put on so I don’t have to shop with an employee hovering over me doing lots of work while I price compare multiple items. A fine store, just a weird practice and if I come back, I will do my own googling to avoid the awkward closeness.
May 08 · Alyse ArrowoodI drove 30 mins for one item listen on Facebook was so excited to see it was there and someone passed it up. As soon I came in I picked it up and wandered around the store with the item for 10mins. As soon I asked for a price to check out another customer comes up to the cashier tells them they want it they and they take it out of my hand and give it to the other person, this ruined my shopping experience. They didn’t once tell me it was another persons nor did that person come up to me to tell me, only when I went to check out they take it from me. I ended up walking away upset that this has never happened to me before in any thrift store. This shopping experience became an over whelming and upsetting waste of my time to have an item taken from my hands as I went to pay for it. I wasnever told once another person was interested . Never again am I wasting my time to come back because they will just take what I want for buy and give it to the next customer who says they want it.Forget this place, there is better kinder places
