Zoomania Introduce
For pet lovers in Harrisburg and the wider Pennsylvania region, finding a local pet store that you can trust is a key part of responsible pet ownership. Zoomania, a small business located at 7050 Allentown Blvd Unit #1, has been a part of this community, offering a range of pets and supplies. As a small business, it often has the potential to offer a more personal and curated experience compared to large chain stores. Zoomania appears to cater to a variety of animals, including reptiles, as highlighted by a customer who purchased a corn snake. They also have a selection of small animals and even offer cats for adoption, indicating a broader focus beyond just supplies. The store’s mission, as with many small pet shops, is to serve as a convenient and accessible resource for local pet owners.
The experience at Zoomania, however, seems to be a mix of positive and negative, as reflected in customer reviews. One customer praised the store as a "lovely small petstore" and highlighted the helpfulness of one male employee, describing him as "absolutely lovely" with "very good customer service skills." This positive interaction led the customer to purchase a healthy corn snake, with all enclosures appearing "very suitable for the animals." This speaks to the potential for a great experience with a knowledgeable staff member. However, the same customer noted a "sour taste" left by another employee who "didn't seem to want to be bothered by anyone." This indicates a potential inconsistency in customer service that can impact a visitor's overall impression.
Another review raises more significant concerns, particularly regarding the welfare of the animals and the store's practices. This customer's experience with a pregnant hamster and the lack of proper guidance or compensation from the store led them to label it a "SCAM." They also noted that young workers seemed uninformed and that the owner was unresponsive. These serious accusations, including claims about hamsters being incorrectly housed and a pregnant one being sold, paint a troubling picture of the store's animal care and business ethics. While some customers find healthy animals and a helpful staff member, others have had very negative experiences, especially concerning the health of the animals and post-purchase support. This makes it a place with a varied reputation in the community, with some people feeling very strongly about their negative experiences.

This ensures that all members of the community can access the business comfortably. These features are a testament to the store's commitment to serving all local residents.

What is worth choosing about Zoomania? The reviews paint a complex picture, and the decision to shop here depends on what a customer values most. On one hand, there are clear signs of a dedicated employee and healthy animals, as evidenced by the positive experience with the corn snake purchase. This suggests that a positive outcome is possible, and the store does have some knowledgeable and caring staff. The presence of cats for adoption also shows a commitment to rehoming animals, which is a commendable effort for a small business. The accessibility features are also a significant positive for the community.
However, the negative reviews, particularly the one regarding the hamsters, are a serious concern. The accusations of selling a pregnant hamster, providing incorrect information, and a lack of accountability from the owner are very troubling. This highlights a potential risk for customers, especially those who are new to a specific type of pet and rely on the staff for accurate information. For someone looking for a straightforward, hassle-free experience with a guarantee of quality and support, the inconsistencies in customer service and the serious animal welfare concerns raised by at least one review may be a deterrent. Ultimately, the choice to patronize Zoomania is a personal one, weighing the potential for a positive experience with a dedicated staff member against the documented risks of poor customer service and questionable animal care practices. For some, the opportunity to support a small local business and find a unique pet may be worth the risk, while others may prefer to find a pet store with a more consistent and positive track record.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place was a lovely small petstore. I would have given it a 5 but one member of staff in particular didn't seem to want to be bothered by anyone and would rather sit and BS with friends or on their phone. The gentleman working there, I wish I could remember his name, was absolutely lovely, very good customer service skills, nice to talk to and more than happy to help with anything needed. I would give him 5 stars, hands down. The other employee left a sour taste in my mouth.I ended up getting a cornsnake from there and it's healthy and I've had no issues with it. Their animals seem to be in good health and most enclosures were very suitable for the animals. Some very cute kitties waiting to be adopted as well!
March 07 · Samantha FleegleThis place is a SCAM! Not a rescue. They used to partner with the Harrisburg Humane Society when they were under the original owner but not anymore. One shady owner seemed to have transferred to another shady owner who is never around and doesn’t return calls. Young workers run the store who don’t know what they’re talking about. They had Syrian hamsters caged together, a big no. Also couldn’t tell us if they were male or female. We chose the one we wanted and 10 days later we discovered 8 more hamsters in her cage! They sold us a pregnant hamster! Went back for guidance and was told to either return them all to the store or keep them all together for 8 weeks. Another wrong piece of misinformation. By 8 weeks they could start breeding with each other. No sort of phone call from the owner was made, no offer of compensation, no apology. When the babies were old enough to be separated from mom we donated them to a legit rescue.
August 04 · Melisa KozanWe've been buying our feeders for our snake there for years. Never had an issue and am glad they are in business. Staff is kind and friendly. I like shopping at a local business rather then a chain.
August 08 · rebecca weisbergWorkers are friendly and attentive. Animals look healthy and we'll taken care of. It's a shame they're in a dying mall, hopefully if the mall shuts down their store stays local!
July 27 · payday hunSTAFF DID NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR MISTAKES!!!!My husband purchased two kittens from here. Both kittens were supposed to be female. This was not the case and took a month to discover. One of the kittens was male. I called asked what can be done to help or ensure this does not happen again. I was given the run around. I was told this type of thing happens and I pushed asking does this happen frequently. Their response was to say it happens anywhere you go. I’ve adopted kittens before at 8 weeks the same age as the kittens from zoomania and had clear sex from humane societies. The staff was very dismissive of their mistake and unwilling to help figure out resources since neuter/spaying can be costly.
