Central Hospital For Veterinary Medicine- Guilford Introduce
For pet owners in Guilford and the surrounding areas of Connecticut, the Central Hospital For Veterinary Medicine is a vital resource for emergency and specialized pet care. Located on Boston Post Road, this facility is a dedicated emergency veterinary service, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide critical care when your beloved pet needs it most. In a medical emergency, time is of the essence, and having a reliable, local option is a huge peace of mind for any pet owner. This hospital is not a general practice clinic; it is specifically equipped and staffed to handle urgent and life-threatening situations, from sudden illnesses to severe injuries.
The experience at an emergency veterinary hospital like Central Hospital is different from a routine visit to your family vet. Patients are seen on a triage basis, meaning the most critically ill or injured pets are attended to first, regardless of arrival time. This is a crucial aspect of emergency care, as it ensures that pets with life-threatening conditions receive immediate attention. While this system can sometimes lead to longer wait times for less critical cases, as noted in some customer feedback, it is the standard protocol for providing the best possible care in an emergency setting. The dedicated staff, including skilled veterinarians like Dr. Kreim, works diligently to manage a high volume of cases and provide compassionate, professional care.
One of the hospital's key strengths is its comprehensive approach to emergency medicine. They are not just a place to stabilize a pet; they are equipped to offer advanced diagnostics, medical treatments, and complex surgeries right on site. This includes a dedicated emergency room and the capacity for surgical service and internal medicine, which means that whether your pet has ingested something harmful or requires an emergency operation, they can receive the necessary care without being transferred to another facility. This streamlined approach can be a huge relief for worried pet owners during a stressful time. The team’s professionalism and genuine compassion for animals, as highlighted in a positive review for Dr. Kreim, are central to the high level of care they provide.
The Central Hospital For Veterinary Medicine-Guilford is more than just a place for emergencies. It is a highly specialized facility that works in collaboration with your primary veterinarian to ensure a seamless continuum of care. The hospital's focus is on providing the immediate, critical attention your pet needs, and then working with your family vet for follow-up and long-term management. Their skilled team, including board-certified specialists and experienced technicians, provides a level of expertise that is essential for complex medical cases. The facility's commitment to transparency about treatment plans and costs is also a reassuring factor for pet owners who are already under stress.

What is worth choosing?
Choosing an emergency veterinary service is not a decision to be taken lightly, and Central Hospital For Veterinary Medicine-Guilford stands out for several key reasons. The most compelling reason is their unwavering availability. Knowing that you can bring your pet to a fully-staffed, well-equipped facility at any time of day or night is invaluable. While some customer experiences have highlighted long wait times, it is crucial to remember that this is a direct result of the triage system, which prioritizes the most life-threatening cases. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Updating my review based on the owners reply:I was waiting for 4 hours without being seen. The reception team were joking around and laughing (while stressed pet owners are worried about the safety of their pets). A worker who wasn't on that day was there doing tests or something with their own pets but "wasn't on the clock today" but glad was there taking up space and attention from the staff. ...I wasn't looking for an update every 15 minutes. But any update in 4hours of waiting would have been nice.Don't blame a staff shortage. Pay better wages and attract better staff. Don't blame the customers. No one was rude to your staff. In fact I apologized when I had to leave after 4 hours of waiting with no service provided. So there was no kick back from rude customers or any nonsense like that. We were just ignored. In fact one of the receptionists joked that I would have to clean up after my dogs hair. Very funny joke since I was there 2 hours before she even arrived to work that day, waiting to be helped.Orignial review: Hire more vets. Can't handle emergencies cause clearly not enough staff. Communication is terrible. Every patient waiting for hours on end and begging for info as to when their pet will be seen or even to get info on their pet in the back.Been here many times. Staff tries but clearly no enough help
July 20 · J VA huge thank you to Dr. Kreim and the entire team for taking such good care of our dog, Hank, during his overnight stay. From the start, Alex on the phone was incredibly kind and patient, walking us through what to expect and answering every question. Once we arrived, Dr. Kreim was not only thorough and professional, but also genuinely caring — we felt reassured knowing Hank was in such capable hands. Everyone was upfront about the treatment plan and costs, and it was clear that their priority was Hank’s comfort and well-being. You can tell this team truly loves animals, and we are so grateful for the compassion they showed to both Hank and us. Hank is lucky to have had them watching over him!
September 03 · Michael MisentiI need to sing the praises of Central Hospital in Guilford. Seeking emergency veterinary care is never fun and it’s always expensive, but I found this hospital to be exceptionally easy to have my beloved pet treated at (as easy as it could be given the circumstances). They were compassionate and worked swiftly, and every staff member we interacted with was beyond kind and helpful. We didn’t have a complex case by any means… seemed pretty apparent to the vet what my beloved pet’s issue was, and that it required euthanasia. I just appreciated how quickly they worked to get her comfortable, and how transparent they were about treatment options. This was a terrible day for my family, but Central made it easier and for that I am grateful.
July 03 · M PWe are so lucky to have found Central Hospital for Vet Medicine in Gilford! While at a vacation rental, our dogs got into some rat bait that had been left behind. Late at night and the staff and doctors were ON IT! We were so impressed by their calm, their knowledge base and kindness. Thank goodness for everyone at Central Hospital - we literally put our dogs’ lives in their hands and so appreciate their care! Highly recommend the staff and doctors at Central.
July 27 · Sue PruttingWe usually see Dr. Dorbandt ( for my terrier's eyeball problems) in this office. He is a great doctor - very caring. But my little terrier got a corneal scratch on a Thursday night and Dr. Roasa and his evening staff took wonderful care of my baby. Totally recommend both doctors.
