New Fairfield Animal Hospital Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We’ve been taking our cat and three dogs to New Fairfield Animal Hospital for 10+ years. All four have been loyal patients and the techs and doctors had always been great.Unfortunately, the past several years there has been a slow but steady decline in service. What started out as subtle rudeness progressed into straight out snarkiness at the reception desk.Doctors came and went for a while so treatment was inconsistent, and the entire atmosphere just seemed to become disconnected and impersonable.Still, I took the changes and the staff issues in stride for the sake of my now teen-aged/senior animals, until a series of incidents in December to which Dr Brunner responded with, well, he actually didn’t respond at all.I am not one to complain or leave negative reviews. But a close friend said it would be wrong NOT to share.December’s issues are very long, very convoluted, and impossible to summarize here. They include conversations, ridiculous comments, mishandling of medical records, and, of course, thousands and thousands of dollars spent with both NFAH and the Newtown Emergency Hospital. However, none of these things compare to and contributed more to our leaving New Fairfield Animal Hospital than the indifference we were met with from Dr Brunner. As the leader of the practice and a medical professional, his non-responsiveness has been so very disappointing.I recognize a fuller story would be what’s most helpful to families in search for veterinary services in New Fairfield. So if you’re looking for a veterinary practice here in town, please feel free to contact me with any questions etc. There’s simply too much to write to capture it all here.I’ve included a pic of each of my four seniors because I never pass up an opportunity to share the cuteness. Axel, the little black dog and my biggest love, unfortunately passed away in February. 💔
May 20 · Susan MerloI do not wish the heartbreaking experience I had with my beloved dog over the last month on anyone and as such I wholeheartedly DO NOT recommend New Fairfield Animal hospital to anyone. We are not new patients to the practice as we first started using them when we got our yellow lab Remy back in 2008 and when we welcomed our second dog Axel in 2017 we added him as a patient as well. A couple of weeks ago Axel woke up with a limp. He was acting ok he just wasn’t able to jump up on the couch or bed like he always would. I called the vet once they opened and they informed me that they did not have any availability for the day and that I could try an emergency facility instead. They provided the contact information for Guardian (another place I will not use again) and we brought him to Guardian that day. Over the next two weeks Axel declined more each day and it just did not seem to be a compressed disc like Guardian suspected he had. Numerous follow up appointments with Guardian provided no additional action or information other than the repeated advice that we get a $7000 MRI to confirm the compressed disc. We reached out to our vet to try and get assistance as that was not something we could afford and inquired if we could start with x-rays, bloodwork, anything? We were advised that x-rays wouldn’t be effective as they likely wouldn’t show what anything useful. Axel continued to get worse. Finally we contacted another vet. That vet immediately had Axel come in and gave him IV fluids, ran bloodwork and took x-rays. And we learned that our poor guy had advanced bone cancer. It took a vet who knew us and our dog for ONE day to provide help and answers, albeit devastating ones, when our vet of SEVENTEEN years did nothing. They knew that he was declining. They knew him and they did nothing. New Fairfield Animal Hospital failed us and they failed our dog and I cannot in good conscience tell anyone with a pet that using them as your vet is a good idea.EDITED TO INCLUDE A RESPONSE TO YOUR COMMENT ON MY REVIEW: To provide further clarification - the person you spoke before our appointment at Guardian was my sister in law. You guys advised her that the dr said that bloodwork and x-rays would be a waste of money for a spinal issue (which was Guardian's guess for a diagnosis) as they would not offer information that would be useful. When we went to Guardian - our third appointment btw and was basically offered no more information towards why Axel was declining and your communication with my sister in law being that xrays would likely offer no answers, we did not feel comfortable proceeding with seeing you again. We needed help. Axel was not doing well and we needed a dr to take action to help with that. We did not feel any sense of urgency from you in this situation. When we arrived at the new vet, they took Axel's temperature and it was 105 degrees. They immediately set up an IV and took action to treat him. We were with you guys for over 15 years and we never even got a phone call after our initial Guardian appt checking on him even though you knew we were going to bring him there for an emergency visit as you advised us to do. In my eyes the biggest problem is that after you spoke to my sister in law and she explained how he was declining and you didn't hear from us, why didn't YOU call to check on him? WE were panicked and trying to get Axel help and didn't call - you guys are his doctors - what's YOUR excuse? In addition, at the start of all this when Axel started limping we called you as soon as you opened and you said that you were already booked for the day. If you don't allow for one or two emergency appointments during your hours of operation, that is another reason why you are not the vet for us.
September 06 · Dina LThe best animal hospital in the area, with the best Vets and staff! I own three puggies, they are my world, they never stressed out when we have to go to the Vet. The Drs are very kind, they listen to your concerns, answering with great details for all the questions I have. They recomnend very good alternatives if needed. October 31 · Andrea Nemeth FuscoNew Fairfield Animal Hospital cares for all three of my dogs. I feel they are getting the very best care. They are always very responsive with call backs and questions. I highly recommend New Fairfield Animal Hospital.
February 28 · Linda GreenThank you for New Fairfield Animal hospital and their team for the compassion and attention to detail. I’ve had prior experience with other veterinary clinics and nothing will compare to the genuine care that is provided here. Highly recommend this practice and well worth the drive from Danbury. Thank you again for honoring my Bingo.
