Highly recommend looking else where for your American Shorthaired kitten!!Met Cheryl at the CFA cat show in Del Mar and purchased a female kitten from her who had recently been spayed. Pointed out to her before buying that the area looked infected but was told it was normal, and having never had a young kitten before i assumed the breeder would know.Brought home my American Short haired kitten and started doing research on the breed. First red flag was that my kitten is LONG HAIRED which i realized is very bad after reaching out to many american shorthaired breeders. From all the other breeders i am told this means she isn't purebred but mixed with something to get her long coat. Not a HUGE deal because we still love our kitten but would have been nice to know before spending over $900 on a kitten! The real issue came in a few days after we brought her home. Her spay stitches started to leak puss!!! We rushed her to the vet and contacted the breeder why the kitten was in the back having her stitches removed, the area cleaned up, and restitched together. My kitten had to wear a cone and be on medication for the infection for 10 days there after. When i was finally leaving the vet i heard back from Cheryl asking if i could bring the kitten to her vet which is a 3-4 hour drive away from me. I am quite lucky i didn't wait to bring my kitten in to a vet because when she got there she had a crazy high fever and i was told if i had waiting much longer the infection could have spread and she would need even more surgery,The next day i asked the breeder, Cheryl, if she could give me a refund for the the amount of the vet bill(which was less than what we paid for the kitten) because I had pointed out the stitches being infected before buying the kitten and her saying it looked fine.THE BREEDER AGREED TO THE REFUND which she has still yet to send me(been 2 months now) and i have not heard from the breeder again!!!!!Moral of the story, look else where for an American Short haired kitten and get everything in writing before you send any form of payment. - Erica Cronin

Schooner Cats Introduce

For those in the Southern California area who are passionate about felines, finding a reputable and professional cattery is a crucial step when looking to bring a new kitten or cat into the family. In the heart of Wildomar, CA, a place dedicated exclusively to the well-being and breeding of cats is Schooner Cats. This establishment is not a typical veterinary clinic or animal shelter; rather, it's a specialized cattery focusing on providing a nurturing and safe environment for its cats. For potential cat owners in California, understanding the unique role of a cattery like Schooner Cats is the first step toward finding a pet that is well-cared for from the start.

A cattery, unlike a general animal clinic, is a place where cats are bred, raised, and housed. The focus is on specific breeds, ensuring healthy bloodlines and proper socialization. Schooner Cats is known for its dedication to the breed they raise, with the goal of producing healthy, well-adjusted companions. While there have been mixed reviews from customers regarding specific experiences, the core function of a cattery remains the same: to act as a breeder of cats. It is a place where enthusiasts can seek out specific breeds with known characteristics and temperaments.

The experience of acquiring a pet from a breeder can be a highly personal one, and it is always recommended for buyers to do their due diligence. This includes asking detailed questions about the cat's health history, genetic background, and the cattery’s practices. The information provided here aims to present a factual overview of Schooner Cats based on the available public data, helping local Californians make an informed choice. It is a place that serves a niche market, catering to those who prefer to select a pet from a specialized environment rather than a general shelter.

Schooner Cats is conveniently located in the community of Wildomar, making it an accessible option for people throughout Riverside County and beyond. The physical address is 33633 Valley Terrace, Wildomar, CA 92595, USA. This placement in a residential area provides a more personal and intimate setting than a large commercial facility.

As a private cattery, the location is designed to be a safe and controlled environment for the cats. It is important to note that access is typically by appointment only, which helps ensure the health and safety of the animals and prevents unnecessary stress. The address is straightforward to find for those familiar with the Wildomar area.

For potential visitors, it is always a good idea to call ahead and schedule a meeting to ensure someone is available to assist you. The specific setting of the cattery highlights its focus on a more personalized breeding operation rather than a public-facing retail storefront. This allows the breeders to dedicate their time and attention to the cats in their care. The central location in Wildomar makes it a potential source for purebred cats for those living in the Inland Empire region of California.

As a cattery, Schooner Cats specializes in a specific type of service: the breeding and sale of cats. This is different from a veterinary clinic's list of medical procedures, focusing instead on the initial stages of a cat's life and its transition to a new home. The types of services offered are directly related to this specialization.

  • Cattery Services: The primary service is the professional breeding, raising, and housing of cats. This includes providing a safe and nurturing environment for kittens from birth until they are ready to be adopted.
  • Sale of Kittens and Cats: Schooner Cats offers purebred kittens and sometimes older cats for sale to approved homes. They have been noted for specializing in certain breeds, such as the American Shorthair.
  • Breed-Specific Expertise: A key service of a professional cattery is providing knowledge and guidance about specific breeds, their temperaments, and care requirements. This helps new owners understand what to expect.
  • Breeding Program: The cattery is involved in a selective breeding program to maintain the health and standards of a particular breed, such as the silver tabby variety.

Schooner Cats is a Cattery, and its highlights are tied to this specific function. These features are what differentiate it from a standard pet store or animal shelter.

  • Specialization: Schooner Cats has a clear focus on being a cattery. This specialization allows them to concentrate on specific breeds, such as the American Shorthair, and to develop expertise in their care and breeding.
  • Breeder-Customer Interaction: The process of acquiring a cat from a breeder is often highly interactive. Customers meet with the breeder, ask questions, and learn about the kitten's background, which can lead to a more informed and personal choice.
  • Known for Specific Breeds: The cattery has been noted for breeding a beautiful, smart, and friendly three-year-old silver tabby, indicating a focus on producing specific appearances and temperaments within the breed.
  • Participation in Cat Shows: The breeder has been mentioned as attending cat shows, such as the CFA cat show in Del Mar. This suggests a professional commitment to the cat breeding community and adherence to breed standards.

As a private operation, it is highly recommended to use this information to schedule an appointment before visiting. The phone numbers can be used to ask about current litters, inquire about the health of the cats, or to set up a time to meet a potential new pet.

Choosing where to get a pet is a significant decision, and for those in California specifically looking for a purebred cat, a professional cattery like Schooner Cats offers a distinct option. What makes this establishment worth considering is its specialization. Unlike a shelter with a wide range of animals of unknown origin, a cattery provides a curated experience with a focus on specific breeds. This can be very appealing to individuals who have a particular preference for a certain breed's characteristics, temperament, or appearance.

However, it is also important to acknowledge that customer experiences can vary. One review highlights a serious issue regarding the health of a kitten and communication with the breeder. This serves as a reminder to potential buyers to always take precautions, such as getting health guarantees in writing and taking a new pet to a trusted local vet for an immediate check-up. While the experience described was negative, it doesn't negate the existence of the business or its primary function as a cattery.

Ultimately, choosing Schooner Cats means entering into a direct relationship with a breeder who is an expert in their field. For those who prioritize knowing a kitten's lineage and early environment, a cattery provides this information more readily than other sources. The decision to choose this cattery should be based on a thorough personal investigation, open communication with the breeder, and a commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of the new pet from the moment it comes home.
