I brought my Missi into see dr otis about a bump that was bothering her.He dismissed it .Turns out it’s Skin Cancer and if cought early enough it wouldn’t spread , then he acted like it was her fault for getting it , she is a dark tabby with thick furit’s not her fault!!With a name like Otis you’d think he would be good at this . Maybe just creating surgeries for him to do , you know the big bucks. Then i brought her into the office on another matter about a year later , and saw another dr. He felt the bump and was very concerned , we had to arrange surgery right awaynow she has another and the office staff is very dismissivethey are scheduling out to october and it’s the middle of augusti find this unacceptableand they weren't very informative after the surgery, and the girl i talked to on the phone was very rude , kept repeating the same thing over and over to my questionsi wish he had done the surgery the first time i brought her innow she will most likely die of this prematurelywith multiple surgeries along the wayshe was so stressed out on the return visit panting and crying. i’m glad i took the stitches out myselfunacceptable !!now i’ll have to find a new vet to get her taken care of as quick as possibleso unacceptablebut maybe for the bestrude dismissive dr andrude office people toonot good with animals or people - Brenda Bschisholm

What is Worth Choosing

Choosing a veterinary hospital is one of the most important decisions a pet owner can make. While South County Veterinary Hospital offers a wide array of services that are convenient for Rhode Island residents, some customer reviews raise serious concerns. The available reviews, particularly the one about a pet named Missi, describe a deeply negative experience involving a misdiagnosed skin cancer, rude staff, and unacceptable wait times for surgery. The client's account of a "dismissive" doctor and "unacceptable" scheduling, along with a "rude" staff member, paints a picture of a practice where communication and compassion may be lacking. The review mentions a significant delay in diagnosis and treatment, which led to the pet needing "multiple surgeries" and potentially a "premature" death. This type of feedback is critical and should be considered seriously by anyone looking for a veterinary partner.

On the other hand, the provided services list highlights a broad and comprehensive set of offerings, from diagnostics and surgery to boarding and an online pharmacy. The accessibility features of the hospital, including a wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking, and restroom, are commendable and demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity. The hospital's focus on preventative care and early detection, as stated in its own service descriptions, is a positive aspect of their practice philosophy. However, the one-star review directly contradicts the efficacy of this philosophy in practice, particularly with the misdiagnosis and subsequent complications.

The decision of whether to choose South County Veterinary Hospital ultimately comes down to a careful weighing of its extensive service list and accessibility features against the serious and highly critical feedback from a past client. The customer's detailed account of a stressful, uninformative, and ultimately tragic experience for their pet is a significant warning sign that cannot be ignored. While the hospital’s service list promises a lot, the review suggests that the execution and client care may not always live up to that promise. For pet owners in Rhode Island, it would be wise to consider this feedback carefully and perhaps explore other options that have more consistently positive reviews, especially when dealing with potentially serious medical issues.
