Veterinary Dental Specialties & Oral Surgery Introduce
For pet parents in California, ensuring the optimal health of their beloved companions includes specialized care when needed, especially for conditions that require advanced veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. Veterinary Dental Specialties & Oral Surgery in Irvine, CA, stands as a premier regional center dedicated exclusively to the oral health of animals. This is not a general veterinary practice, but a highly focused specialty clinic where the team, including the esteemed Dr. Robert Furman, DVM, is dedicated to diagnosing and treating complex conditions of the teeth, gums, and jaw that general practitioners may refer out.
The facility provides a critical service for pets across Orange County and greater Southern California, offering expertise that mirrors the specialized care available to humans—from pet-safe anesthesia and detailed oral evaluations to highly technical surgical procedures. The core philosophy centers on the specialized knowledge of board-certified veterinary dentists (Diplomates of the American Veterinary Dental College), who possess a depth of skill and training rarely found in a general practice setting. This specialization is the key to providing an accurate diagnosis and a treatment plan that prioritizes saving teeth and ensuring the animal's long-term comfort and quality of life.
Client testimonials consistently highlight the profound relief and gratitude felt by pet parents who entrust their animals—often those with complicated medical histories, such as heart murmurs or anxiety—to this specialized team. The dedication to honest assessments and compassionate, meticulous care, particularly concerning anesthesia safety, sets a high bar for veterinary excellence in the California region.

- Endodontic Procedures: Performing Root Canal Therapy and vital pulp therapy, which are critical for repairing Fractured Teeth and preserving them from extraction.
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Expertise in procedures such as Jaw Fracture repair, tumor removal (oncologic surgery), and corrective surgeries for palate defects or traumatic injuries.
- Veterinary Dental Radiology: Utilization of cutting-edge technology like digital dental radiographs and Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) to provide a precise, 3D diagnosis of the teeth, jaw, and sinuses.

- Exclusive Focus on Dentistry: By focusing exclusively on Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery, the clinic maintains cutting-edge equipment and a specialized team that handles these unique medical challenges daily, ensuring industry-leading accreditations and world-class expertise.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Awesome Veterinary Dentist. In and out with super personal care and way less stress for my cat. Jasper wasn’t all that excited but he definately wasn’t traumatized. So happy to have found these folks. Pet ECG & blood work done seamlessly ready for extraction in 2-days. Planned for only a 2-hour procedure. 👍
March 04 · Patricia SotoThere are very few people in this world I trust with my dogs, but Dr. Furman is one of them. Over the years, I’ve brought both my 8-year-old Lab mix and my now 13-year-old Dachshund with a heart murmur to him, and every time I leave feeling deeply grateful that someone like him exists. My Lab needed a root canal once, and another time I was told by a vet tech at my regular clinic that he needed 14 teeth removed. I was devastated—until Dr. Furman stepped in and only had to remove two. He’s that skilled, that honest, and that compassionate. He always chooses what’s best for the animal, not what’s easiest or most profitable. That kind of integrity is rare.As someone who has experienced deep anxiety around anesthesia—especially with my fragile older girl—I can say Dr. Furman and his team are the only ones who have ever made me feel safe and at peace. They’re gentle, incredibly thorough, and have followed up every time without fail. I’ve been to them three times now, and each visit has been met with the same level of care and excellence. The clinic is spotless, organized, and respectful of your time—but most importantly, you can feel how much Dr. Furman truly loves animals. He treats every single one like family, and as someone who considers my dogs my soulmates, that means everything to me.If you’re looking for someone who is not only a brilliant veterinary dentist but a deeply caring human being—Dr. Furman is it. I wouldn’t trust anyone else.
April 17 · BriI can’t speak highly enough about Dr Furman and the entire staff. From the moment you first step into their office you’re greeted with smiles, professionalism and genuine caring. Answering every question to ensure owners are confident in the services they are going to perform. My dog is 15yrs old and had several teeth in veryPoor condition. I was worried about her making it through the surgery and Dr.Fuenan explained how detailed their monitoring is of all vitals.Dr Furman even gave his personal cell number in case there were any issues or concerns over weekend after surgery. You won’t find a more caring and top notch team then VDS Irvine.Thank you for taking care of my fur baby
May 31 · J M GreenlyThank you so much for taking care of Finn! I came to Vet Dental Specialties because my dog had chipped a tooth. I had a great experience both at the consultation appointment and today for the procedure. Dr. Furman explained the issue with the tooth and the game plan in detail. He took his time and answered all of my questions, I never felt rushed. They only do one procedure at a time so I dropped my dog off at 8am, picked up by 10am, and he was at home resting by 10:30am. I was so happy that he didn’t have to spend all day there. The receptionists and technician were so nice and helpful and Finn loved everyone he met there (as you can see in the pic, he was very concerned when any of his new friends left the room). I would highly recommend them to anyone!
March 28 · Savannah McCorkleI cannot say enough positive things about the entire team and our experience at VDS. We initially visited them in Ventura last year when my dog had a discolored canine tooth which turned out to need a root canal. He’s a big guy with a big fear of the vet so getting him care is stressful for all of us as it is but VDS made it such a smooth process. A year later in a freak collision, he broke that same tooth. Unfortunately the surgeon who we first saw is no longer at the practice but we were seen by Dr. Niemec who provided us with all of the information we needed to know what to expect and again made the entire situation feel manageable. We ended up needing an earlier procedure date so we made the drive down to Irvine. We met Dr. Hernandez for the first time the day of surgery. Yet another VDS surgeon who went above and beyond for our boy (and us). He made sure we felt comfortable with every step and provided education and insight on the procedure. Every single visit we’ve been met with respect, reassurance, knowledge and results. Again, vet visits of any kind aren’t an easy thing for our dog but the team has taken the time to really learn about his needs and create an environment where he feels as safe and comfortable as possible, easing all of our worries. I can’t imagine leaving him in better hands. Thank you Dr. Hernandez, Dr. Niemec, Michele & staff.
