Wildlife Center Friends Introduce
For residents of New Jersey, encountering injured or displaced wildlife is a common occurrence, and knowing where to turn for help is crucial. Unlike domestic pets, wild animals require specialized knowledge and facilities to be properly cared for, rehabilitated, and released back into their natural habitats. In Lambertville, one of the most trusted and highly regarded resources for this vital work is the Wildlife Center Friends, a non-profit organization that supports the Mercer County Wildlife Center. This is not a typical animal hospital for cats and dogs; it is a dedicated sanctuary and medical facility for the wild creatures that share our beautiful state, from tiny flying squirrels to magnificent bald eagles.
The mission of Wildlife Center Friends is to provide expert medical care and a temporary refuge for injured, ill, and displaced native wildlife. The center is a state and federally licensed facility staffed by a team of licensed rehabilitators, employees, and a large contingent of dedicated volunteers and veterinarians. The work they do is a testament to their passion and deep respect for our natural environment. As a human development continues to encroach on wild habitats, the services provided by this center become even more critical. They are a beacon of hope for animals in distress, offering them a second chance at life in the wild.
The core of the experience at Wildlife Center Friends is the kindness and compassion of its staff. Reviews from grateful visitors consistently highlight the team's efficiency, caring nature, and genuine concern for the animals they treat. One customer who brought in an injured flying squirrel noted how "friendly & informative" the staff was, providing clear instructions for the "little critter to be well." Another, who rescued a small brown bat, was impressed by the intake worker's friendly demeanor and her evident care for "our furry little friends." This personal touch and unwavering dedication to every animal, no matter how small, is what makes the center so special and deserving of the community's support.
Beyond their vital rehabilitation work, the center also serves as a fantastic educational resource. As a reviewer noted, it’s a "very cool place" to visit, with opportunities to see "rehab'd animals" like predatory birds and even a big bald eagle that are permanent residents because their injuries prevent them from being released. These animals act as ambassadors for their species, helping to educate the public on the importance of wildlife and peaceful coexistence. For families in the area or even visitors from out of town, a trip to the Wildlife Center Friends is a great way to spend an afternoon, learn about New Jersey's native wildlife, and appreciate the incredible work being done to protect them.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I found a small brown bat on my porch and brought it into the center to be cared for and hopefully rehabilitate. The woman who was doing intake was super friendly and really cares about our furry little friends. She told me to go around the side of the building to check out their other rehab'd animals. Very cool place, lots of cool predatory birds, and even a big bald eagle. If you live in the area or are visiting from out of town, it's a cool place to stop by and spend an afternoon.
April 04 · Paul Thompson, Jr.Kindness goes a long way... This crew is efficient & caring. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for tours, information, care for wild animals. I had a little flying squirrel that one of my dogs punctured. The staff is very friendly & informative for further processes for the little critter to be well. EXQUISITE facility!
November 23 · LaurenAlthough there is a learning area with animals who cannot be released this is not a petting zoo or up close. Call ahead for real information about rescue care before you help even in good nature. I have brought animals over the years and never had a bad experience with the knowledge and practical care they have. They do what is best for the animal even if we don't like it emotionally. Professionals. Please respect and donate too.
April 10 · Darius Azairude staff, unempathetic. Judging by my experience, highly doubt they will take the time and care needed to nurture a defenseless hurt animal back to health. Seemed like the person helping me was upset she would have to do something if I brought the wounded animal in. Turn the open sign around to closed and go back to napping, no one will bother you then.highly recommend Woodlands in Pittstown.
December 07 · kris kralovichThe outdoor education center was a fantastic way to spend an hour. Our 1.5 year old loved seeing the animals and was able to see everything from the paths. The paths are level and well packed, so despite heavy rains the day before it wasn't muddy. Such a little hidden gem but make sure to drop a few bucks in the bin to support their rescue work.
