★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1from october 2024…. posted this on yelp but saw many others having the same experience on google reviews toomy poor kitty had a tick that needed to be removed. our normal vet, Dr. Penyy @ The Cat Doctor at NHP — was unavailable at the time so we came to this vet as it’s in the same network.Upon entering the exam room, Dr. Joseph Deme made this visit extremely uncomfortable and unpleasant. ive worked at a cat cafe/rescue for two years and have several close friends who are vet techs. so i’m well educated about my situation.i told him exactly what was wrong with my cat and asked a few questions for his opinion. he seemed very annoyed that i knew what i was talking about and was short and condescending towards me. my friend also came with me for moral support and noticed the same. she told me as he left the room that her mother had also had issues with this specific guy and that he was very rude. not to mention, the tech wasn’t able to restrain my cat properly to take his temperature. she seemed scared of my cat even though he was calm 90% of the appointment. i offered to do it instead but was rudely told i “can’t do that”, like …. it’s my cat i can’t touch my cat ???? also come to find out after my grandma also hates this vet for similar reasons.we only came here because the other place was closed. after the initial exam i was already feeling uncomfortable and wanted to leave and seek help elsewhere. i called my mother (who made the appointment) and told her about how i was feeling , we were already quite shaken by my cat’s sudden health change and told me to just stay and follow through. Despite us already being clear about what was wrong, Dr Deme ordered an unnecessary 200$ x-ray that revealed absolutely nothing about my cat’s condition. “scanning for foreign objects” whenthe cause was clearly the very big tick attached to my cat’s neck, and was already able to physically examine my cat who had lost quite a bit of weight, so any kind of “foreign object” would have been easy to find without an x-ray. which he did not inform me the price of at time of consent.as soon as my cat was whisked away to the xray area. i did not see my cat or the doctor for the rest of the appointment until Dr Deme showed up after the xray to tell me they found nothing and that the blood work and tick toxicity test that i had to consent to would be an additional 500$. i called my mother to confirm that this was okay, and while i spoke with her he stood there listening to my conversation in the private room, without my cat nor another tech— it was extremely uncomfortable and terrible bedside manner. on top of all this, he also was recommending nausea medication and fluids that would’ve tacked on likely another 200$ to my bill. luckily, i had iv fluids for him at home but i caved on the nausea medication for my kitty’s comfort. my bill came out to over 800$ and probably would’ve been closer to 1000$ if i said yes to fluids.Dr. Deme i believe is the main doctor/owner of this practice and was very obviously using our uncertainty about my cat’s condition to upcharge with unnecessary services. i should’ve left after the OFFENSIVE initial exam. glad that i know never to rely onMineola Animal Hospital EVER in a pinch.update:monday 11am afterour THURSDAY appointmentwhere we were promised blood test results within 24 hours. no call from mineola animal hospital. called and waiting over 5 min with no pick up. called The Cat Doctor at NHP , luckily is in same network and a very lovely receptionist updated me that the test results had arrived , luckily negative for tick toxicity. as well as made a follow up with Dr. Penyy (our fav , regular vet) .Never will I go back to Mineola Animal Hospital and ESPECIALLY Dr. Deme in this lifetime.
August 25 · Izzy SchlichtingWe used to live in Garden City so this was our vet for a bit, and they were always great I since moved and need my pets medical records. They could not have been more helpful. made copies for me, had them ready for me when i came at the end of the day. Thank you to the staff of Mineola Animal Hospital for making this process so much easier.
August 21 · Stuart “Gotz3775” LeonI recently lost my baby Cassidy to congestive heart failure. The last few months have been hard but Dr Sorge and the rest of the team were amazing. Dr Sorge’s dedication, support and knowledge was beyond what is expected. The whole team is easy to work with and I will surely be back if I decide to adopt another dog. Thank you 🙏.
August 27 · Margaret GordonI’m so disappointed in mineola animal hospital. I had been going here for years and LOVED it. I recommended them to my mother for her newly adopted pup and she was excited to go. Unfortunately Dr. Tan was incredibly unpleasant to deal with during the short appointment. Wouldn’t recommend and will be finding a new vet on LI.
