Catnip and Carrots Veterinary Hospital Introduce
For pet owners in New York, finding a veterinarian who not only has the expertise to treat their beloved animal but also understands their unique nature can be a true blessing. Catnip and Carrots Veterinary Hospital in New Hyde Park, NY, is a specialty practice that has cultivated a serene and dedicated environment specifically for cats and rabbits, as well as other small mammals. The hospital's name itself is a nod to its focus on these animals, recognizing their distinct needs and temperaments. Dr. Jennifer Saver, the founder, opened the hospital in 2000 with the goal of providing a low-stress environment that is free from the noise and commotion of a typical vet's office, which can be particularly frightening for prey animals like rabbits. This thoughtful approach to veterinary care is what makes Catnip and Carrots a unique and highly valued resource for pet owners throughout Long Island and beyond. The positive testimonials from grateful clients, particularly those with pet rabbits, speak volumes about the quality of care and compassion provided by the team.
A significant highlight of Catnip and Carrots Veterinary Hospital is its specialization. The veterinary staff and the hospital’s design are entirely focused on catering to the specific needs of felines, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, and mice. This specialization means that the team, including Dr. Saver, possesses a deep and comprehensive knowledge of these animals' unique health challenges, from dental issues in rabbits to behavioral quirks in cats. This expertise is a crucial advantage for pet owners who know that not all vets are equipped to handle the delicate care that exotic animals require. As one customer review highlights, while a local vet might be fine for a quick nail trim, for "the important bigger things," this is the place to go. This professional dedication ensures that every patient receives tailored care, from routine checkups to complex surgeries, all in an environment designed to make them feel as comfortable as possible. The focus on a low-stress setting is particularly beneficial for cats and rabbits, who are prone to anxiety in new places, creating a truly calming experience for both the pet and the owner.
Catnip and Carrots Veterinary Hospital is located at 2056 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, making it a convenient destination for residents of Long Island and the surrounding areas. The hospital has also made a strong commitment to accessibility, with a wheelchair accessible entrance, parking lot, and restroom. These amenities ensure that all clients, regardless of their mobility needs, can easily access the care their pets require. As a practice that highly recommends and often requires appointments, their planning is designed to ensure that each pet receives focused and timely attention. For new clients, a deposit is required to secure the appointment, a policy put in place to ensure that their time slots are utilized for pets in need. This structured approach, while firm, shows a deep respect for the medical needs of all their patients and an effort to streamline their services for maximum efficiency.
The hospital offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to its specialized patient base. Beyond routine exams, which are vital for animals that instinctively hide pain, the hospital is equipped to handle a wide variety of medical issues. From in-house laboratory services for quick diagnostics to state-of-the-art laser therapy for pain management, they have the tools to provide high-quality medical care. The positive feedback from a customer who relied on Dr. Saver for over a decade of care for their bunny, Bandit, is a powerful testament to the hospital's ability to be a long-term partner in a pet's health. The review speaks to the team's professionalism and their compassionate guidance through all stages of a pet's life, from rescue to end-of-life decisions, highlighting the profound trust they build with their clients.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1For the last 10.5 years, Dr. Saver has been a blessing to our little bunny. From the moment we took him in after rescuing him, to the unfortunate difficult decision of peacefully putting him to sleep, she guided us and put his care first always. Jess in the front office was always so sweet to deal with, and the techs who helped were all knowledgeable too.Thank you Dr. Saver & her team for always giving Bandit the best care. We will always be grateful.
August 24 · Heather HerreraIf you have a pet rabbit this is the place to take them for all of their care. We have visited a lot of exotics veterinarians but by far this is the best. The staff truly cares and the vet really knows what she is doing. If your bunny just needs a nail trim or a quick visit go to your local place, but for the important bigger things definitely come here! They are truly the best there is and will love your bunny like their own.
July 09 · Michelle MCatnip and Carrots Veterinary Hospital is by far one of the most trusted places in my life, next to my home. When I bring my rabbits to the vet, I feel confident about the care they are going to receive. I feel confident not only in their expertise of exotic animals, but in the care they receive from the doctors, technicians and staff members. This veterinary hospital is clean, caring and reasonably priced. They are dedicated employees and I have the utmost trust in Catnip and Carrots.
November 01 · Danielle StevenDr. Saver always puts her patients first. I love how she takes the time to go over basics of care and any procedures that need to be done. She is patient and so good with the bunnies. Her office team is always sweet and compassionate as well. Can’t recommend highly enough.
July 03 · Kadie SantiagoThe staff and techs are very nice. However - I was a long time client of Dr. Saver's (on and off for over 30 years). I was recently treated very badly by Dr. Saver (and she knows that the cats I have had through the years lived long lives because of the love and care I always gave them). Dr. Saver chose recently to berate and belittle me in front of other clients and some staff because my 18 year old cat gets very stressed and agitated when she goes for monthly injections. There was no reason for how she spoke to me- I was a loyal, long-time customer. I and others have heard her acting this way even on the phone with other clients. I now see a different vet and they couldn't be nicer, understanding and patient - especially with a senior cat who gets anxious and stressed when going to the vet. Very, very disappointed in the way I was treated by Dr. Saver and have chose to end my relationship with Catnip and Carrots because of her unprofessional behavior.
