Captive Bred Specialties Introduce
For reptile and amphibian enthusiasts across Southeastern Wisconsin, finding a pet store that truly understands the unique needs of these animals can be a challenge. While large chain stores offer a generic selection, dedicated keepers know the value of a specialized and knowledgeable resource. Captive Bred Specialties, a local small business located in Waukesha, has established itself as a premier destination for those who are serious about herpetology. This store is more than a place to buy pets and supplies; it's a hub for the community, offering a carefully curated selection of healthy, captive-bred animals and the expertise needed to ensure they thrive. The business is founded on the principle that captive-bred animals are healthier, more acclimated to human care, and ethically superior to wild-caught specimens. This commitment to responsible breeding and care is a core part of their identity. The owner and staff have a deep passion for reptiles and amphibians, and this passion is reflected in the beautiful displays, the health of their stock, and the invaluable advice they provide to every customer. This specialized focus and genuine care set them apart from the competition, making them a trusted source for both new and experienced hobbyists in the greater Milwaukee area.
Captive Bred Specialties has earned its stellar reputation through a combination of high-quality stock and outstanding customer service. Customers consistently praise the store for its "beautiful displays and healthy stock," which immediately shows the dedication and care put into every animal. One of the most notable aspects highlighted by a reviewer is the owner's expertise in "self-sufficient ecosystem terraria." This is a testament to their deep knowledge of herpetology and ability to create intricate, sustainable habitats that are not only functional but also works of living art. For customers, this means they can get guidance on creating a thriving environment for their pets, which goes far beyond a simple purchase. The reviews also point to the excellent customer experience, with one customer noting that the owner "helped save me money" and has "outstanding customer service and takes pride in what he does." This willingness to prioritize the customer's best interest over a simple sale is a rare and highly valued trait. The recommendation to "Don’t walk… Run!!" to this store underscores the strong sentiment of trust and satisfaction felt by those who have shopped there. This level of praise speaks volumes about the quality of the animals and the integrity of the business, making it the only place some customers will do business with from now on.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A great place for your (and your herps) needs. Beautiful displays and healthy stock. Of special note: the owner has apparently mastered the artful science of self-sufficient ecosystem terraria. Having tried it myself a few times I can attest to the skill that goes into these wonderful pieces of living art.
April 02 · John CurnuttI purchased a beardie from here for my kids and she is the cutest! The owner helped save me money and has outstanding customer service and takes pride in what he does. If you are looking for any reptiles… Don’t walk… Run!! This is the best place I’ve been to and highly recommend purchasing your new family friend here!! This will be the only place I do business with from here on out.
May 05 · Sera JaeThis is a great place to get a beardie. I got mine a few days ago, and he’s doing very well! The animals look well cared for, and the owner seems like he really does care about every animal that leaves his store which is why some reviewers think he is “snobby.” I dont necessarily think thats a bad thing, but i always believe in being open to learning new things! Herpetoculture is always evolving and changing. They also breed most of their animals in store, which is super awesome. My only warning for customers is to do your research. Many breeders rely on fairly outdated husbandry info such as 40 gallon tanks for adult dragons, when experts and modern keepers suggest a 4x2x2 (a 120gal). I know theyre hard to heat, especially if you crank the AC in the summer, but covering a small portion of the cool side with foil like he recommended has kept my temps optimal, and keeps the cool side room temperature. Although i will say it takes 2 100w halogens and a 160w mercury vapor to keep it up. (Its a very big tank so a little but of foil wont suffocate or harm them. PVC tanks like mine have a lot of ventilation.)I did check out a mercury vapor bulb, and that definitely helped keep my temps up, so those are nice when used in addition to halogens and a T5HO UVB. (Plus the extra UVB wont hurt anyone.)(Hes on paper towel until hes done quarantining. He will go on sand soon.)
October 02 · Savannah WanExtremely knowledgeable staff and super friendly! Love stopping in for my feeding needs for my reptiles.
