Value Pet Center Introduce
For decades, New Jersey pet enthusiasts, particularly those in the South Jersey area, have relied on Value Pet Center in Pennsauken as a key source for specialized animal types and supplies. Operating as a small, family-owned business for nearly 60 years at the same location, this store is not a typical big-box retailer; it functions as a highly specialized market for niche pets. Value Pet Center is explicitly known for its extensive variety of live animals, distinguishing itself as an aquarium shop, tropical fish store, reptile store, bird shop, and even a bait shop.
The core identity of Value Pet Center lies in its focus on exotic livestock and aquatic life. Their inventory reportedly includes thousands of gallons of freshwater fish, African Cichlids, and fancy goldfish, alongside a wide array of reptiles such as various types of geckos, pythons, and monitor lizards. They also stock small animals like hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, and various bird species. This diverse specialization caters directly to hobbyists and experienced keepers looking for animals and supplies often unavailable at general pet supply stores across the state. The business emphasizes its mission to match the right pet with the right customer, supported by continuous staff training and years of accumulated experience.
It is important for local New Jersey customers to note the dichotomy present in public feedback. While some customers praise the variety of animals, availability of unique species, and the helpfulness of the workers, others have voiced serious concerns regarding animal welfare and habitat conditions. Given the severity of these unverified reports found in public reviews, prospective customers are strongly advised to visit the store in person, observe the living conditions of the animals, and conduct their own careful assessment before making any purchases, especially concerning live animals. The small business's longevity in the South Jersey community indicates its role as a key supplier, but due diligence is paramount.
Value Pet Center is strategically located at 7951 South US-130, Pennsauken, NJ 08109, USA. This placement directly on US-130, a major north-south artery in New Jersey, makes it exceptionally accessible for customers traveling from various points across Camden County and beyond. The store itself notes its close proximity to Philadelphia, making it a viable option even for pet keepers across the river. Customers should use "Pennsauken Township" in their GPS to ensure correct navigation, as the store is located next to Howard Hill and The Village Thrift Store.

For the experienced and conscientious New Jersey pet enthusiast, Value Pet Center is worth choosing primarily for its unparalleled and highly concentrated specialization in exotic and aquatic pets. No ordinary pet store, it serves a distinct segment of the market that demands unique livestock—such as specific morphs of reptiles or rare species of African Cichlids—and the accompanying specialized, often industrial-grade, supplies. The nearly 60-year history of the small business suggests a long-standing, community-embedded source for these niche products. For hobbyists in South Jersey, this store saves the considerable time and expense of traveling to find these highly specific items.
However, the decision to choose this establishment comes with a critical caveat that every potential New Jersey customer must seriously consider. Public reviews reveal conflicting experiences, with one customer expressing severe concern over animal welfare and reported instances of neglect. This feedback highlights a crucial responsibility for consumers: the need for scrupulous personal observation.
In choosing Value Pet Center, the knowledgeable buyer must commit to a higher level of scrutiny. The store offers unique inventory that may be unavailable elsewhere, but the ethical buyer should only proceed after a thorough, in-person inspection of the animal habitats. What is worth choosing here is the availability of niche products and the legacy of specialized knowledge, provided the customer is willing to actively verify that the store's current standards meet acceptable animal welfare and husbandry practices before supporting the business with a purchase. The store is a resource, but its usage requires responsible due diligence from the local pet community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Please listen carefully. This place is AN ABOMINATION. It needs to be closed YESTERDAY. The neglect and abuse I saw was insane. Ferret living in a gecko tank, baby bird emaciated and dying on the COUNTER squirming on its back for help. Every reptile with nothing except tiny water dish and spoiled wee wee pads for substrate. No air conditioner. Trigger warning I am attaching the photo I took of the baby bird. I will be calling every animal welfare organization as well as law enforcement. I ran out horrified and sick to my stomach. DO BETTER!
July 30 · Salvatore FrattoIt’s a small space but they have a variety of different animals. They even had a ferret ! They have cages, food, decor and more. The workers were helpful and we even got to pet a few animals. So cute, can’t wait to go back and buy a pet.
January 14 · Sachy TrinidadStay far away from this store! They don't honor their fish guarantee and everything is the customers fault. We disclosed at time of purchasing the fish we had a chaotic Red Parrot with a murder personality. So the sales people highly recommended the fish to us. When I went to bring the fish back last night the workers did everything possible to avoid honoring the guarantee and was told I had to talk to the owner. Called the owner today and he could not have been more rude! I also brought up my concerns about the state of the animals in the store and he was like the AC was on. I was in their last night and the AC was not on. Everyone of the negative reviews is correct!STAY FAR FAR FAR AWAY!
May 03 · Yonaton YaresPure and simple animal abuse. As a biologist, reptile fish and amphibian owner and rehabilitator, I could not in good faith walk through this store without leaving a review. STAY AWAY. This is the most disgusting and horrific pet store I have ever had the displeasure of being in.Dead and dying animals EVERYWHERE. Dead rat in a cage with 3 others. Obviously impacted green basilisk that was lying on its back unable to flip itself over. It was paralyzed from the waist down. I notified an employee and he picked it up and tossed it into the water as a 'solution'. Catfish swimming upside down with swim bladder issues. Enormous cichlid and other fishes in enclosures they could barely turn around in. Dead male betta in a tank with other fish picking at his entrails. BOAS PILED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER IN A POOP AND URATE-COVERED ENCLOSURE WITH A PAPER TOWEL SUBSTRATE. Paper towels look like they had never been changed, quite seriously. Urate was hardened and littered all over enclosure. Conditions for ball pythons, boas, burmese pythons and more absolutely abysmal. Little to no UVB exposure for several bearded dragons and many other lizards. Multiple monitors housed together in 30-40 gallon enclosures LITTERED in feces. Four conures in an enclosure I and any reasonable bird owner wouldn't house a single canary in.So many more issues, too many to list in this review. I could not believe my eyes and my girlfriend was literally brought to tears at the condition of several of the animals here.I will be contacting as many animal welfare associations as I can as well as law enforcement. This is so despicable and I genuinely can't understand how this place hasn't been shut down yet.To the owners- when you read this, please know that you are actively abusing animals and very obviously do not care for their well being at all. You are commoditizing innocent living beings for your own benefit. I cannot understand how you can run this place the way you do and still sleep at night. In summary, please stay as far away as possible from this place and report them as much as you are willing. I cannot in good faith go about my daily life now while these animals are being treated as poorly as they are.
