★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My family and I had complete trust in Dr.Sturla when we had to get our puppy neutered. We were encouraged because only one testicle dropped. We were told it was not a procedure that had to get done at a hospital so we had Dr. Sturla do it. Fast forward- he told us when we picked bubba up that day, he could not retrieve the one testicle because it was”attached to his bladder” and we would have to wait a month and get it removed at garden state animal hospital. We brought him home and that night into the next morning he was bleeding out of his penis. I called first thing in the morning and they didn’t seem too worried. After an hour I demanded for him to be seen because he didn’t look good and was still bleeding. I brought him in, dr.sturla advised me to go to garden state. Well. My puppy winded up in ICU for 10 days. Found out that his organs were moved around and he almost died. His bladder was purple, ave if it turned black they would have had to put him down. While he was his surgery we found out his testicle was actually on the complete opposite side of where Dr.Sturla went in- and he mistakened his testicle for his prostate. What was more horrific was that I had to reach out to Dr. Sturla during this awful time to express my concerns. He didn’t even call the first couple of days that my puppy was in ICU. Now 1 year later, Bubba has been diagnosed with Permanent nerve damage. We have gone to every internist in NJ to find a solution because now our puppy is permanently incontinent. He is a 140lb mastiff that has to wear a diaper and he in a significant amount of medications the rest of his life. While he was under the care of the surgeons at Garden State hospital we were encouraged to file a malpractice lawsuit. We did not want to take that route, but we were told most likely the damage would be permanent. We did move forward, but in the state of NJ if you do not have an affidavit of merit signed stating the doctor messed up- than you can not more forward with the lawsuit. And of coarse the Chief of staff at garden state would not throw Dr. Sturla under the bus. Everyone makes mistakes. But my problem is- own up to it and make it right. I have lost my job due to having to be home to give his meds every 8 and 12 hours. He is currently on a total of 36 pills a days! He also gets frequent UTI’s and bacteria infections. My monthly visits with the internist is almost $1000 a month plus close to 20k in hospital visits and surgery’s . My family and I had stopped by Dr. Sturla’s office before Christmas with all our Vet bills in hopes he would do the right thing by helping us. He did not seem to have one bit of remorse which is awful, considering he is supposed to love animals. My family and I refuse to put our dog down and do whatever we need to do because he is so young and such a gentle giant. I hope this post is seen my Dr.Sturla and his wife. I will keep writing reviews and dropping off receipts until something is done about this.
May 07 · laura moeWe love this doctor & the staff. They are so thorough & they are so sweet to our Lexi! She actually looks forward to coming here. She goes in with the girls no problem. The doctor is a sweetheart & never does anything extra that doesn’t need to be done.
August 03 · Janet VargasWhat a great team! I brought my 15-16 year old dog, Magnolia, in this week and she was treated like a queen! I was so impressed by how friendly all of the vet techs and front desk staff were. I am also so grateful for Dr. Sturla’s compassion for Magnolia. He was so thoughtful in how he spoke to me about caring for my very senior girl. Maggie is doing much better! Thank you!
July 12 · Elizabeth GautieriWe feel very fortunate to have our dog Cosmo in the care of Holmdel Veterinary Clinic. Anytime we have had questions or concerns they have gone the extra mile to be responsive and make sure our situation was resolved quickly. Dr. Sturla is an incredibly knowledgeable veterinarian and skilled surgeon if that is required - which it was for Cosmo on one occasion. The entire staff, from his extremely competent and conscientious wife to all the technicians, always make us feel like we are in good hands there. Thank you Dr. Sturla and everyone at Holmdel Veterinary Clinic!
August 10 · John LoVerdeI loved it here. The staff was friendly and helpful on the phone. Dr. Sturla loved my cat and it showed in how he talked about him and treated him. I was nervous he was going to list a bunch of tests and shots, but he treated my cat for his diarrhea and kept the cost down. It was a very pleasant experience, I didn't sit down before I was welcomed into a room. The staff baby talked to my cat, how can you not love that? It was very heartwarming. I'll be going back for my veterinary needs in the future. Dr. Sturla's been treating animals longer than I've been alive, this man is a legend.
