Choosing a veterinary hospital is a deeply personal decision, and the experiences of other pet owners can be incredibly helpful. The reviews for Metuchen Veterinary Hospital paint a complex but ultimately reassuring picture. A negative review highlights a frustrating experience with a nervous cat, citing a change in policy and a misunderstanding. This review, however, ends with the vet eventually providing care, suggesting that while communication may have been an issue, the hospital's priority remains to serve the pet. This kind of experience is a good reminder that every interaction can be different, and some animals, particularly cats, can be especially challenging in a new environment.
On the other hand, a glowing review from a first-time dog owner perfectly encapsulates why many people choose this hospital. The customer states, "The staff are very sweet and my dog and I were very comfortable with the vet." They also highlight a core value of the hospital: a personalized approach. The vet "assured me that spaying her is not necessary and we set up a schedule to do minimal vaccinations that I felt comfortable with." This is a stark contrast to their previous vet who "shamed" them. The customer also praises the vet for providing a recipe for a real food diet, demonstrating a holistic approach to pet health that goes beyond standard prescriptions. This positive experience underscores the hospital’s commitment to patient comfort, clear communication, and a non-judgmental, collaborative approach to pet care. The customer happily concludes, "I am very happy to have found them and feel my dog is in the best of hands!" and adds that the prices are "reasonable" with "no upselling." This combination of personalized care, reasonable pricing, and a compassionate staff makes Metuchen Veterinary Hospital a compelling and worthwhile choice for pet owners across New Jersey.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We've had some uncomfortable experiences here. Last time we came with our cat, they tried to make us move our appointment once we had already gotten into the exam room. My partner mentioned that our cat was stressed and has long nails, so the vet tech went to go get gloves. Instead of her returning, the receptionist came in and told us the vet was refusing to see our cat. It turned out they recently had someone come in with an aggressive cat who bit the vet, so I guess that made them create some policy of not seeing stressed and anxious cats...even though I'd assume many cats at the vet usually are nervous? It was really odd, and despite us reassuring them that our cat is NOT aggressive, the vet just refused to even come into the room and see what her behavior was like (and like I said, this was not our first time bringing this cat to see this vet). I started crying because it was so frustrating and confusing. Cat owners know how stressful it can be just getting your cat to an appointment, knowing they are scared and unhappy being out of their comfort zone. My crying finally made the vet change his mind, I guess. He came in, and it was clear he didn't even know the reason we came in that day. Our cat proceeded to be completely non-aggressive during the whole exam. I think this vet needs a long vacation or to retire. We also had a fecal exam done, and never got the results.
July 07 · Samantha MurrayThe staff are very sweet and my dog and I were very comfortable with the vet. I’m a first time dog owner with a two year old cockapoo. Our previous vet shamed me for not wanting to spay her and give certain vaccinations. The vet here assured me that spaying her is not necessary and we set up a schedule to do minimal vaccinations that I felt comfortable with. He also gave us a recipe to start her on a real food diet which the previous vet told me to only feed dry kibble which I felt wasn’t healthy. Overall, I am very happy to have found them and feel my dog is in the best of hands! I just wish I found them sooner. Prices are reasonable, no upselling
August 13 · Erin CollinsThe staff and vets are great. I brought in 3 kittens and they had checked them out and given great advice. Also, they are not crazy expensive for office visits. Don't go to places like banfield. There you won't get the same vet twice almost always and they will try to sell you in to things you don't need. The staff at Metuchen Vet were straight forward and honest and didn't blow smoke up my you know what.
January 13 · Joe Stwo weeks later: My dog developed allergy to one of vaccinations. I send her back to this doctor , he did not charge fee but charge the steroid shot, which costs more (their price is from what doctor gaves). After allergy shot I follow the instruction to have her wear cone. However, the site begin to lose hair and now it is looking like this. at the time we were in this doctor's office, I also notice she has lymph node swelling, I have reported but I guess the doctor did not take it.
July 23 · DOREEN TsaiI brought my ferret, Missy, here with no idea what was going on with her. She was lethargic and withering away. I came to the Metuchen Vet Hospital not knowing what to expect. When I got there, the staff was immediately welcoming and kind. They were attentive and asked a bunch of questions about her condition. During the exam, I cannot tell you how sweet and gentle they were with her. She got spooked and had an accident and the assistant was so sweet and ran to grab something to clean it and her up. After some poking and prodding, the doctor gave my little one a diagnosis. He had to give her a shot there, and I was sent home with several meds. I came back 2 weeks later and she was a little better. She got another injection and the doctor told me she would get one more and be good with that. So, for another 2 weeks, we continued with the meds. When I tell you, in that second week, that she was almost back to her normal self...I was so relieved! I brought her back today for the final injection and they took me right away and saw the change in her. She got her last injection, and I was given instructions on continued care (as her disease is permanent, but manageable). I almost cried because I was so happy that she was doing better and that the vet (Dr. Boaz) was so spot on with her diagnosis and treatment. His support staff is wonderful too. Always so wonderfully friendly, kind, and accommodating. I can’t recommend them enough. I was so worried and scared for my baby and she did so well with them in the examinations and is doing so much better now. If you have a pet in need of medical attention, do yourself a favor and go to this clinic.
