Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital Introduce
For pet owners across Connecticut, having a reliable, comprehensive, and compassionate veterinary hospital is a critical part of ensuring their animal family members receive the best possible care, especially during times of crisis. Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital, located in Middletown, is one such facility, serving as a dual-purpose institution that provides both routine primary care and a high-level emergency and specialty service. This hospital is a vital resource for the community, equipped to handle everything from a routine check-up to a life-threatening emergency. The extensive range of services and the expertise of its medical team make it a cornerstone of pet healthcare in the region, offering a one-stop solution for a pet's medical needs throughout its life.
The core mission of Pieper-Olson is to provide advanced medical and surgical care with a deep commitment to compassion. They understand that every visit, whether planned or unexpected, is a source of concern for pet owners. The hospital's structure, which includes both scheduled appointments and an urgent care and emergency department, reflects its dedication to addressing a wide spectrum of health issues. This dual functionality is designed to provide a safety net for pet owners, giving them the peace of mind that a trusted team is available around the clock. The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and staffed by experienced veterinarians, including specialists, ensuring that even the most complex cases can be managed with expertise.
Experiences at the hospital can vary depending on the nature of the visit. For planned procedures, such as a dog's surgery for a broken leg, the hospital has a reputation for providing exceptional care. The staff is consistently described as amazing, kind, and professional, and pet owners are highly satisfied with the outcomes of complex medical cases. However, for non-life-threatening emergencies, the experience can be very different. Like any emergency facility, Pieper-Olson must operate on a triage system, where pets with the most critical, life-threatening conditions are seen first. This necessary protocol can lead to long and stressful wait times for less urgent issues, as some pet owners have noted. While the wait may be difficult, it is a reflection of the hospital's commitment to prioritizing the most dire cases, a practice that is standard and essential in emergency veterinary medicine.

What is worth choosing Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital?
For pet owners in Connecticut, choosing Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital is a choice for a full-scale medical partner for their pet's health. While some experiences may be challenging, particularly during high-traffic emergency visits, it is essential to understand the unique and critical role that a hospital of this magnitude plays in the community. The existence of a local facility with advanced surgical capabilities, a CT scanner, and specialists in fields like oncology provides a level of care that is simply not available at a typical veterinary clinic. For a pet with a complex or life-threatening condition, having this resource so close is invaluable. The positive review, highlighting a successful surgery for a broken leg, perfectly illustrates the hospital’s capacity to handle serious medical issues with a high degree of skill and compassion.
The negative review, while difficult to read, highlights a key reality of emergency medicine: prioritization. While a pet with a non-life-threatening condition may have a long wait, it is because the staff is attending to pets in a more dire state. This triage system, while frustrating, is a necessary protocol to save lives. Choosing Pieper-Olson is a decision to be part of a system that is prepared for the worst-case scenario. It provides a sense of security, knowing that in a true emergency, you can rush to a hospital that is equipped to handle anything, from toxic ingestion to a major trauma, at any time of day or night. This is a level of peace of mind that most other clinics cannot provide.
Furthermore, the hospital’s ability to offer a full range of services—from a routine vaccine to a pet first aid lesson—makes it a truly comprehensive solution. A pet can receive its wellness care and, if a serious illness is discovered, be treated by a specialist at the same facility without the need for a separate referral or a stressful move to a different hospital. This seamless continuity of care is a major benefit. Ultimately, choosing Pieper-Olson is a choice for a powerful and comprehensive medical safety net for your pet, making it a critical and trusted partner in the Connecticut community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My dog needed surgery to pin a broken leg. The entire staff has been amazing. I'm very happy with my pet care so far.Update... Carl is doing awesome. He had his cast off two weeks ago now and is healing beautifully. I can't say enough good things about this experience. Thank you so much, everyone, at Pieper.
March 28 · Jessica BekechAbsolutely unacceptable experience at this so-called *emergency* veterinary clinic. I brought my cat in after he had been **peeing blood for over 24 hours**—a clear and urgent medical issue. Despite this, I was told it “wasn’t an emergency” but and advised to see a regular vet. That alone shows a complete lack of judgment and basic veterinary awareness. It was a **holiday weekend**—our regular vet wasn’t open. That’s why I came here in the first place. Completely ignorant to assume we don’t have a normal vet. Even though they advised to go there. We sat in that waiting room for **over 11 hours**. Eleven. Hours, overnight. Until he was finally seen, for them to complete a simple urine test and hand us antibiotics stating “come back if he can’t pee” something that could’ve easily been handled in under an hour, especially given that my cat has a *known history* of UTIs.As he was treated for this about a year ago here. This wasn’t a mystery illness. It could’ve been straightforward, but instead, it was made unnecessarily long, stressful, and traumatic—for both me and my cat. As he was left to sit in his own pee and blood covered carrier for this ENTIRE time. All while the ferret and rabbit were more important than my cat. With very non emergent issues. There was **zero sense of urgency, very little communication**, and frankly, a lack of compassion for animals in distress. The staff seemed indifferent, and the wait times were not just unreasonable—they were negligent. THANKFULLY this wasn’t a more dire scenario. If you value your pet’s health and your own sanity, I strongly recommend you look elsewhere.
August 31 · Ashley ToomeySo very sad. Very clearly driven by profit. More worried about expanding their business then creating quality care and customers for life.Anyone who went here before 2012 knows these changes.Unfortunately emergency vets are all about the same. Because I was no longer taking my cat here due to this corporate greed they would not prescribe more medication at the end of her life unless she came in as a patient. My current vet did not have the medication and I could not find it anywhere. It took losing my mind with them to eventually give my cat the medication she needed to be comfortable at the end of her life. Heaven forbid they help an animal that had a few weeks to live not suffer.
August 07 · Cam CExcellent. Gwen is highly reactive and we've had a hard time at other offices with her. The staff was supportive and made our visit productive and fairly low stress. I wish I took their names. But, Dr. March and the staff who assisted him with Gwen's appointment were outstanding. They made her visit look like a breeze. It was such a relief to leave having had a productive appointment rather than being sent home to try again at a later date which has happened to us before. Experienced staff.
May 23 · Rhonwen PetersI change my rating from 4 to 1 very very disappointed and disgusted after yrs going here. How the two Dr's and Manager that handled at time. After always thanking them and for being professional ended up not being. To be continued with detail! As I had to take time to heal from all I went through with my Special Little Man Bam Bam ❤️My Little Might Man Bam BamDec 5 2010 - April 2023And then after a week of rain after his passing. He came back to Me as Hawk he came each evening till finally he sat outside the window, listen to this ! As I sat on the couch I had him on for his funeral and was telling my Aunt on the phone about the Hawk. I turned and there he was right outside sitting on the fence lookin at Me! As he got my attention, looked into my eyes to eyes, I got all tingles goose bumps hair standing and then he flew off. He's always around calls out when he's coming in and fly bys 😉Don't lose Hope as your Babes are near you.💗
