Exotic Aquarium Introduce
For pet enthusiasts in California, and specifically the Sacramento area, the quest for a specialized and knowledgeable pet store is often focused on finding a place that understands the unique needs of exotic animals. Exotic Aquarium, located at 6643 Franklin Blvd, stands as a premier destination for anyone passionate about tropical fish, pond life, and reptiles. This establishment is much more than a typical pet store; it's a true haven for hobbyists and a rich resource for beginners. As an Asian-owned small business, it has built a strong reputation over the years, with a history that spans at least 25 years. The store is celebrated for its incredible variety of aquatic life, including a vast number of tanks filled with everything from common minnows to unique Koi and Hi Fin Sharks. This extensive selection gives it a unique position in the local market, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to start or expand their collection. The business has also grown to include a large reptile and dry goods section, ensuring that enthusiasts of all kinds can find what they need under one roof. The experience of simply walking through the store is often described as a delight, with customers enjoying the opportunity to "window shop" the vast number of fish and reptiles on display. This rich environment, combined with the staff's dedication to customer service, creates an inviting and educational atmosphere. They understand the intricacies of keeping these animals and are committed to helping customers succeed, a quality that fosters loyalty and trust within the community.
The success of Exotic Aquarium is deeply rooted in its commitment to providing an unparalleled selection and expert guidance. The sheer number of tanks and the variety of species available, from snails and shrimp to a wide selection of goldfish, are a major draw for repeat customers. As one review notes, many customers make bi-weekly trips just to see what new shipments have arrived, a testament to the ever-changing and exciting inventory. The store's reputation for having a massive selection of dry goods as well, from aquarium filters to reptile terrariums, means that it serves as a one-stop-shop for a wide array of needs. While the store has evolved and moved locations over the years, it has maintained a certain "insane" vibe with its many tanks, reminiscent of beloved past Sacramento institutions. The business is also known for its strong customer service ethic. The staff are frequently described as "super helpful," patient, and willing to take the time to answer complex questions without rushing customers. A powerful example of this is a customer's story about getting help with a fish fungus, where a staff member, even while busy, took the time to look at photos, offer advice, and even refer them to another place to buy a product that the store had run out of. This level of dedication and genuine care for the well-being of the animals and the success of their customers is a cornerstone of their business model. They are a valuable resource for anyone from a first-time fish owner to an experienced pond builder, offering knowledge that can only come from years of hands-on experience in the industry.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I've been going to exotic aquarium for at least 25 years back when it was on florin road. The new location is insane so many tanks it kinda gives the same vibes that Capitol Aquarium used to. They literally have everything here aswell as a large reptile and dry good selection. Highly recommend stopping but if only just to window shop the fish and reptiles they have so much cool stuff here.
June 14 · Taylor PoseyOver the past year or two my wife and I have bought many, many fish from this location. Ranging from minnows, Koi, a ton of goldfish, Hi Fin Sharks, Shrimp, ect. We now stop by about once every two weeks just to see what comes in. We have three above ground ponds in the backyard, 500, 280, and 200 gallons approx. Plus an inside little eco thingy for the shrimp and snail. The staff at Exotic are always super helpful! Sometimes I'll be picking out a fish and get in that panicky can't make a decision mode, and they never rush me and reassure me that it's totally fine. Also, always willing to help when I have questions. At one point I had a fungus (didn't know what it was) growing on fish in one of my ponds and lost a fish, so I asked them for help. The owners son (I gotta ask his name oops) asked for pictures and after looking made a suggestion and didn't push their products knowing that they ran out of what I needed. He referred me to another way of buying. He was right, and my fish healed after treatment. It was ultimate customer service. They were busy and stressed, but he still took the time to help me. I read through some other reviews and saw some complaints and can address one: They have signs up, if you need help, go to the front desk and they coordinate for someone to help you. Don't just stop staff who are always on an assignment unless they ask if you need help. It's an organized way of doing it that seems to work good. There was one time the owner irritated my wife a little, he had some of the water plants that were added into her water plant filled bag taken out since it was too much for the price she was paying for them.. So she was paying like $5 for shrimp plants but there was maybe $8 worth in the bag so he had the staff remove them to make it down to the $5 (or whatever the amount was). This was a little cheap yea, and maybe not the best idea as far as making the customer happy. But, I think he was feeling the pressure and was in "Owner" mode. That was quite a while back, and since then my interactions with him have been awesome. We love the fish selection here and are always excited to see what comes in. Prices wise, it really just depends on what it is. Sometimes I'll see things that are cheaper than other places, and sometimes I'll see things that are more expensive. I think that's just the business based off the supplier and shipping. I know they don't have a fish guarantee, but I get it. Fish die from transfer stress, pond/aquarium quality, ect. So much of that depends on the customers care not theirs, so I agree it would be a losing money for them thing to have that kind of guarantee. We really do love this spot and appreciate the help they always give us. Plus, the selection of Goldfish is great, especially when they get the fresh shipments in.

August 26 · Frank HermosilloThis store has everything you would want for your aquarium. Beautiful selection in plants you will not find anywhere else. Saul has a good eye in stocking up on red plants to have available to purchase. The employees are helpful in picking out the fish you would like. David takes his time to help me get the right color puppies I'm looking for. Always a warm welcome to go in that store. Thank you, guys.
