What is worth choosing
Choosing a pet store involves considering convenience, product selection, and the overall customer experience. Petco, with its well-known brand and extensive inventory, is a popular choice for many Pennsylvania pet owners. However, it's crucial to understand that the experience can be mixed, especially concerning certain services like the in-store Vetco clinics. One customer's review highlights a deeply negative experience with the Vetco clinic, noting the "horrific" setup where they were forced to wait for almost an hour with their two terrified cats in carriers "in the MIDDLE OF THE DOG FOOD ISLE." The presence of barking and lunging dogs added to the traumatic experience for their furbabies. This review is a stark warning for pet owners, particularly those with sensitive animals like cats, to be aware of the clinic's setup. The customer also noted that the vaccination costs were still "crazy expensive" and not "affordable by any means," suggesting that the savings may not be worth the stress. While the vet tech was described as "nice and lovely," the overall system was deemed "horrible," resulting in a traumatizing experience for the pets. This feedback is a vital piece of information for local users considering a visit for veterinary services.
Another customer review provides a different, but equally important, perspective on the in-store experience. This individual, who is highly allergic to guinea pigs, had a severe asthma attack upon entering the store and discovering that guinea pigs were in a display tank near the front. This unexpected encounter forced them to leave the store immediately, highlighting a potential health risk for customers with severe allergies to certain animals. While the customer noted that their kids enjoyed the visit, and they themselves still consider the store "decent," their personal experience underscores the importance of being aware of the live animals on display, which may change from visit to visit. For customers who want a wide variety of products for their pets, from tropical fish to reptile supplies, Petco offers a broad range of options. The flexibility of curbside pickup and delivery is also a significant convenience. However, these testimonials serve as a critical reminder that while the store provides a vast selection and convenient services, it is essential for pet owners to assess their specific needs and the potential environment before visiting, especially when their visit involves services or interactions beyond simple shopping for supplies.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The Vetco here is horrific. I’ve been here for almost an hour after my appointment time sitting in an aisle. They don’t have an intake area, they make you and your pets sit in STORE ISLES! I have two cats in carriers and they’re terrified, if I knew this was their set up I would have never brought them here. There are so many misbehaving dogs that are barking and lunging and it’s terrifying my poor babies just sitting in their carriers frightened. Again, in the MIDDLE OF THE DOG FOOD ISLE. The shots here are still crazy expensive it’s not like you’re going through the worst experience ever to get cheap vaccines, they’re still not affordable by any means. This is the worst experience we’ve ever had, and for only $50ish cheaper than my regular expensive vet I wish I just brought them to the expensive one. The vet tech is very nice and lovely though this is no hate to her, she was wonderful. Just the system itself here is horrible and my babies are traumatized. NEVER BRING YOUR PETS HERE ESPECIALLY CATS!!
September 13 · Maria KratzI'm giving Petco 5 stars because I assume it is as decent of a store as had been in previous years/visits.My last visit, however, was terrible for me personally (my kids enjoyed the trip).I am highly allergic to guinea pigs.Typically, they have ferrets in the display tank in the front of the store and the rest of the critters in all the tanks in the aisle before the display tank.Sadly, this visit they had guinea pigs in it.As soon as I walked in, I could feel my chest tightening but couldn't figure out why.I made it by the display tank and saw them as I was starting to have a pretty bad asthma attack.I couldn't breathe and kept coughing, so I had to leave the store.Luckily, I have my inhaler with me, so no medical response was needed, but if I hadn't, I probably would have had to call rescue to help me.My kids were a bit freaked out as it is a rare occasion I have had such a bad asthma attack, but I told them just to keep looking at the animals/fish and to get what they needed, I'll be fine, I just couldn't be in the store anymore.Next time we go, I'm going to send my kids in first to see what is in the display tank before I go in myself.
July 19 · Megatron225The employees at this Petco ROCK!!!!!! The nice lady & gentleman that were working the night shift on 3/24/25 until 9 PM were kind enough to take my call just a few minutes before closing the store, and stayed open until I made it there so I could get food for my pet (a few minutes after 9 PM). They greeted me and were happy to help even though they were more than ready to close shop for the night. I was not expecting them to answer my call that late, let alone be so kind to stay and help me out, they even brought my item to the front of the store to check out before I got there. They were both so overly nice, helpful, generous, wonderful. They are awesome.
March 24 · Paige ZilnerI love Petco, you guys have had things that Pet Supplies Plus did not however I took the long way home to grab some Stella and chewy‘s chicken barrels and you didn’t have the medium bag in stock so I had to buy two little ones that’s all I have to complain about but otherwise I’m always at Petco and it’s always loaded up with the goodies that I need!
September 03 · Ruth CapoI never leave reviews but I went to this pet store today to purchase one black moar goldfish and was yelled at by an employee and was told in order to purchase one baby goldfish I’d need at least a 55 gallon tank! I have a starter tank setup at 15 gallons as well as multiple other tanks all the way up to a 75 gallon and was told off by the employee for not owning a pond instead for one baby black moar goldfish. I’m also heavily autistic and the yelling caused me to cry inside the actual store over this. I had a black moar just die in a very tragic way very recently by getting sucked into an odd spot in a filter. The way the employee handled the situation was extremely disappointing and I will not be back to this specific location to purchase pets or supplies from here onward :(
