Piggy Pet Shop Introduce
For residents of South Carolina looking for a unique and special addition to their family, a local pet shop can offer a different experience from larger chain stores. In Cowpens, a small business named Piggy Pet Shop provides a focused service, specializing in specific types of animals, most notably, mini pigs. This type of pet store is unique in its offerings, aiming to connect specialized animals with loving homes in the community. As a small, local business, Piggy Pet Shop is often run by individuals who are passionate about their animals. This can create a personal and friendly atmosphere, where customers feel a one-on-one connection with the business owners. One customer review highlights the owner, Nicole, as "absolutely amazing," "quick to respond," and "very knowledgeable," noting that her animals were "so sweet." The appeal of such a business is the opportunity to deal directly with the people who raise and care for the animals. However, it is also important for potential customers to be aware that the personal, small-business nature can come with varying levels of professional organization and documentation. While the owners are described as "sweet," one review raises serious concerns about the lack of formal paperwork, inconsistent communication, and a need for greater expertise in breeding practices. The review notes issues with documentation for vaccination and bloodlines, as well as an instance where a pig was adopted with a genetic condition that the business did not take responsibility for. These differing experiences show that while the business has a core of genuine passion and positive interactions, potential customers should do their own thorough research and ask detailed questions. The intent of Piggy Pet Shop is to find homes for their animals, and for some, the personal touch is a major draw. For others, the lack of formal business practices may be a significant concern. The purpose of this article is to provide a comprehensive overview for anyone in South Carolina considering this pet store, enabling them to make an informed decision for their family.
Piggy Pet Shop is located at 850 Dewberry Rd, Cowpens, SC 29330. This location is situated in a more rural area, which is typical for businesses that may specialize in breeding and raising animals. For residents of Spartanburg and the surrounding area, the location is a short drive away. The business offers a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, which makes it easier for all customers to access the premises. Given the nature of a specialized pet shop, visits may be less about a quick browse and more about a planned trip, though the business does note that a "quick visit" is possible. The delivery service option is a key feature, which adds convenience for customers who may not live close to the Cowpens area. This service, as mentioned in one review, shows a commitment to getting the animals to their new homes, though the review also notes issues with the pre-delivery communication. The semi-remote location contributes to the small-business, local feel, and it's a place you'd visit for a specific purpose rather than casual shopping. For those interested in their specific offerings, the location is a straightforward drive and serves as the hub for their operations in the South Carolina region. The business's focus is on connecting with clients and facilitating the pet adoption process, and their location is the base from which they serve the broader community.

Specialized Pet Sales: The business specializes in mini pigs, such as mini Juliana pigs. They connect these animals with individuals and families in the South Carolina area, acting as a breeder and a retailer. Their focus on this specific type of animal sets them apart from more general pet stores.
Pet Supplies: While the primary focus appears to be on animals, they likely offer a selection of pet supplies relevant to the animals they sell, such as feed, bedding, and other essential items. This makes it a convenient stop for new owners.

This personal touch is a key feature and can create a very positive initial experience for clients, helping them feel comfortable and supported in their decision.
Concerns about Documentation and Expertise: A detailed review raises serious concerns about the business's lack of formal documentation, including incomplete vet records and a lack of verifiable bloodline information. The reviewer also questions the business's expertise and honesty regarding genetic health issues, which were dismissed as not being their responsibility. This is a critical point for potential clients to be aware of.

For some, the opportunity to work directly with a breeder like Nicole, who is described as knowledgeable and kind, is the ideal way to find a new pet. The focus on mini pigs provides a valuable resource for a specific market of pet owners in South Carolina. However, it is essential for potential clients to take into account the serious concerns raised in a detailed customer review. Issues with inconsistent communication, a lack of formal veterinary and bloodline paperwork, and a refusal to take responsibility for a pet's genetic condition are significant factors that should not be overlooked. The reviewer strongly advises that potential clients "do their homework" and "only accept real documentation and paperwork to assure a valid and accurate bloodline." This highlights the importance of thorough due diligence when working with a specialized breeder. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I HATE to write this review, but I have to - even though the couple from Piggy Pet Shop were sweet. I adopted my incredibly loving boy - a mini “Juliana” pig - on February 16th, 2024. In the beginning, I had problems with the way they conducted business and the lack-of, and inconsistent, communication, but I looked the other way with “rose-colored glasses”. But, I wish I didn’t ignore the lack of paperwork. Do your homework, request for a “bloodline” certification. Do not accept a piece of paper with their letterhead as the formal indication of where the pig came from. The vaccination certificate from them indicated no formal authorization from their vet, to transfer to my vet - as it was a simple piece of paper with two dates of the vaccinations with a letterhead. I asked several times for more detailed documentation to give to my vet but I never heard back. And I asked for paperwork with the exact documents proving his parents, with again, bloodline tracks, but I never received that, but only received a piece of paper with only two names of parents, with their letterhead, and that’s it. There was no formal registration or detailed information on the parents - only their names. Now, to go onto my big issue. We found out only a few days after delivery that our mini pig has preaxial polydactyly on his front right hoof, which is a hoof with 5 appendages, not 4. We noticed it 3 days after he arrived when we were at our vet for his overall exam. I was reaching out for 1 month straight about this concerning matter and only after a month did I get a response. I explained that preaxial polydactyly is only due to genetics, more specifically, inbreeding. I explained this, and they said “Well, the parents and the other litter mates have not shown any problems.” So, I brought up the 2nd problem, an enlarged preputial diverticulum, which is an obvious genetic factor as well, more specifically their skeletal structure, which is in no way environmental. I was told “When we dropped him off, we didn’t notice any of these issues.” And they refused to acknowledge or read my messages and only stated it must have been an infection when it came to the preputial diverticulum. That’s even after I explained what my vet said after my visit only minutes after I left and offering vet records from the same day (today) from the X-ray and vet notes. I even offered for them to call my vet. I was also told, “If we saw that he had a “pinky toe” (5 appendages on the front right hoof), we wouldn’t have delivered/sold him to you”. So, when I offer for them to cover, or at least pay half, of the surgical costs when I decide to amputate the extra appendage due to his inefficiencies when walking and steadying himself, they declined and said that it’s “not covered under our health guarantee because that’s only pertaining to death of a pig from an underlying condition, in which we would replace your pig”. I did, however, remind them that problems due from any underlying conditions, are in fact, genetic. There was no true concern at all.As sweet as they were when they delivered my baby boy piglet, they are absolutely not equipped to run a business. They didn’t even know my pig was a boy until a few days before delivery. So, I’m not shocked they didn’t notice the 5th appendage on the front right hoof. I can’t comment on the size of our pig, yet, but we will find out after completing his Deoxyribonucleic Acid Test. I strongly advise possible clients to do their homework and only accept real documentation and paperwork to assure a valid and accurate bloodline before their purchase. Unfortunately, I believe this business lacks the necessary expertise and resourcing capabilities to conduct business effectively and honestly. Poor management, inadequate documentation, and a lack of development in key areas resulted in their inability to provide accurate information - as simple as formal veterinarian documentation for vaccines. I hope they can gain the resources to provide real security for their clients and pigs to ensure and assure breed quality and practices.
March 25 · Stevie Rae HillNicole is absolutely amazing. All her animals were so sweet and we will be purchasing a pig from her soon! She was quick to respond, kid friendly, and very knowledgeable.
August 31 · Samaria MathisGreat place to go if you’re looking for an experience where your family can interact with lots of animals. My daughter and her friends held and played with piglets, big pigs, a pony, dogs and kittens. If you’re looking for a social media-perfect, organized and executed party, this isn’t your place. The lady was very kind with our girls. They had a wonderful time.
August 18 · ashley hinsonJust recently had a fantastic experience purchasing our tiny Juliana pig. They were able to meet me halfway and made sure to provide all of the care information and paperwork. We are so happy with our tiny pig. We took our piggy immediately to the vet just for peace of mind and was met with a clean bill of health. We are actively looking to purchase goats for our farm, and will definitely be checking out Piggy Pet Shop’s availability on their next litter. Really appreciate you guys and we’ll be in touch with you soon!
