Choosing a veterinarian is one of the most important decisions a pet owner makes, as it can directly impact a pet's health and longevity. The Animal Clinic of Encino is a place worth considering, but it is important to be aware of all aspects of their service, especially regarding their policies on emergencies. The provided reviews highlight both the exceptional strengths and a key limitation of this clinic, giving a complete picture for a potential client.
On the one hand, the testimonials about Dr. Chang and her team are glowing. The review from the GSD owner, who was recommended by friends, praises Dr. Chang as a "wonderful vet who really cares about their patients." This personal touch and ability to remember clients and their pets creates a powerful bond of trust. The fact that they go "above and beyond" speaks to a level of dedication that is highly sought after. Another review notes that despite being a busy clinic, the vets are "very knowledgeable" and the vet assistants are also well-regarded. These are the kinds of qualities that make a clinic a long-term partner in a pet’s health.
On the other hand, the review concerning the 14-year-old cat who had a seizure presents a critical point of consideration. The client’s frustration with the clinic's policy of not taking emergencies is a vital piece of information. The receptionist's strict adherence to this policy, even for a current patient who had recently been seen by a vet at the clinic, underscores a significant limitation. While the clinic may be excellent for scheduled care and non-emergency health issues, pet owners must be prepared to seek an emergency hospital when a sudden, critical situation arises. This is a common practice for many general veterinary clinics, and it is a point of clarification that pet owners need to be aware of before they find themselves in a distressing situation. The fact that the clinic's reception staff is described as "rude" also suggests a potential customer service issue, which can add to emotional turmoil during a crisis.
Ultimately, Animal Clinic of Encino appears to be an excellent choice for routine and advanced non-emergency care. Dr. Chang and her team are highly skilled and compassionate. However, for a pet owner who values the ability to go to a single facility for both routine and emergency needs, it may be necessary to have a secondary plan in place or to consider a dedicated 24/7 emergency hospital. For regular check-ups, ongoing treatment of chronic conditions, and planned surgeries, this clinic provides a high level of care that has earned it the trust of many loyal clients in the Encino community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is a very busy clinic. Challenging for a working person to schedule a clinic visit. Dr Chang and her Vet assistants are very knowledgeable. Receptionists are all rude.My pets(dog and cats) were regular patients at this clinic for years. Spent lots of money for various non emergency health issues.I had had my 14-year-old cat checked by a home vet and then followed up at the Encino clinic. The vet covering checked my cat checked prior lab results and prescribed anti nausea medication.About 2 wks later I came home, my cat greeted me, suddenly fell over, and appeared to have a seizure. I called and explained what was happening. Receptionist said they don’t take emergencies and I have to go to an emergency hospital. It was pouring rain out. I said that the vet that just examined my cat is there today, can’t I just bring him in. Receptionist said no. By the time I drove to emergency vet hospital, (20 minutes later)he had died. I haven’t gone back since and the location is only 1 1/2 blocks away from my residence.Something for pet owners to consider. We spend lots of money on our fur babies. Maybe choose a veterinarian/facility that does regular check ups and takes emergencies.
May 16 · Gena MuscattOur friends recommended this vet when we got our GSD who is almost three. Dr Cheng continues to be a wonderful vet who really cares about their patients. They always remember us and go above and beyond to ensure our GSD is gets everything he needs.
June 03 · Sarah Davis (Sarah Cate)The doctor and the nurses are amazing and really care for the pet. This place puts pets first and the doctors and nurses take their time to talk to you about what is happening and will be happening. The doctor is very friendly and does not push any brand but advises on natural items to feed your pet.
April 30 · Nooruddin GheewalaIf you like being interrupted and ignored before you can even finish a sentence then Dr Chang is the vet for you. I have always had 3 or 4 dogs at a time and for over 40+ years. I think I have a general idea of what’s going on with my animals. She listens to nothing. I went into her office and she wouldn’t give me a second to even talk. She did absolutely nothing to help my dog but said I should put her on a Prozac because she is high strung. Seriously? I didn’t even go in there for that. She ignored what was wrong with her and just took my money. $300 and did absolutely nothing. Now my puppy is still sick and will have to go to another vet to help her. I was so pissed but I kept my cool. Paid the money and left. I’m a normal nice guy that doesn’t have anger issues but I was one second from having a meltdown. At this point I wouldn’t even trust her to feed my dog let alone treat my dog. I normally never write reviews but I just wanted to warn people before they spend their hard earned money. She lost me as a customer and I’ll never go back.
July 09 · Dgc DgcDr Chang is the absolute best! There’s no one else I trust more to take care of our dogs. We moved further away and sometimes it takes us 45+ mins to get there but it’s so worth it because we know Dr Chang will do everything she can to make sure our dogs are healthy.
