Pet Smiles General Veterinary Dentistry Introduce
In the diverse landscape of Arizona pet care, one aspect that is often overlooked but critical to a pet's overall health is dental care. In Gilbert, Arizona, Pet Smiles General Veterinary Dentistry stands out as a unique and dedicated practice that focuses exclusively on this vital area. This is not a general veterinary clinic; it is a specialized center where the team's entire mission is to improve the comfort, health, and happiness of pets through proper dental care. Led by the highly-regarded Dr. Hansen, this women-owned business has become a go-to destination for pet parents who understand that a healthy mouth is key to a healthy life for their dogs and cats.
The practice's reputation is built on a foundation of advanced expertise and a deeply compassionate approach, as evidenced by the glowing reviews from real customers. One pet owner, whose dog Francesca had a previous adverse reaction to anesthesia, was "so scared to put her under again." After being turned away by multiple vets, they were referred to Pet Smiles and Dr. Hansen. The pet parent was "so grateful" to have found a vet who understood their fears and took the time to explain everything, ensuring there were "no complications." The practice kept the owner updated with texts throughout the procedure, providing immense peace of mind. This level of communication and care is a testament to their patient-first philosophy.
Another heartfelt review came from a pet owner who traveled from Colorado to Arizona to get emergency care for their 12-year-old Pomeranian, Dixie, who had severe abscessed teeth. The owner was "very nervous to try a new place," but found the team "amazing to say the least." Dr. Hansen "over explains the entire process" and made the pet parent feel "reassured" about putting their small, older dog under anesthesia. The team provided "detailed updates the entire day of the surgery," and everything went smoothly. Both reviews praise the staff's friendliness and Dr. Hansen's expertise, highlighting that while specialized care can be an investment, the peace of mind and positive outcome are worth every penny.
Pet Smiles operates on a philosophy of "reimagining dental care for pets." They emphasize that a routine "cleaning" is actually a Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT), which includes a thorough physical exam, general anesthesia with monitoring, diagnostic x-rays to see beneath the gum line, and a detailed cleaning and treatment plan. This meticulous process ensures that no underlying issues are missed, providing the highest standard of care for every patient.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I absolutely love Pet Smiles!! Dr. Hansen is amazing. Francesca had an issue with anesthesia when she was spayed and stopped breathing. The vet resuscitated her but I was so scared to put her under again. She needed three extractions because two of her puppy teeth would not fall out and another one partially broke. I went to three vets that were referred and they would not do it because of her previous incident with anesthesia. I was finally referred here and I’m so grateful that it was Dr. Hansen that did the procedure. It all worked out. She explained everything to me and what happened to her the first time. There were no complications when Francesca had her dental today and the kept me up to date with texts so I knew how she was doing. I will not go anywhere else for dental work. The price was much better than the other quotes I had received.
May 28 · Kellie AnnMy sassy Dixie girl is a 12 year old Pomeranian who had some abscessed teeth that became severe while traveling. I needed to get in somewhere quickly so I called Pet Dental in Scottsdale where I had taken her before for cleanings but they were scheduled weeks out. This led me to find Pet Smiles where of course I was very nervous to try a new place in an emergency situation. They got me in literally the next day so I drove from Colorado to Arizona to make the appt. From beginning to end this place was amazing to say the least. All the girls are so friendly and Dr. Hansen is truly heaven sent. She over explains the entire process in ways that I understood. I made it known how scared I was to put Dixie under because she is older and so small. Dr. Hansen made me feel reassured and the rest of the team gave me detailed updates the entire day of the surgery. Everything went smoothly and now Dixie is better than ever. Things can get pricey but in my opinion nothing is more important than making sure my baby is healthy and in the best care. Thank you guys so much for everything 🩷🐾
January 30 · Harmony MoyerFinding Pet Smiles was an answer to prayer for us and our dog. The staff is highly professional, knowledgeable and helpful and will be able to help my pup through alot of needed dental work at a fraction of what it would cost elsewhere. Thank you Dr Hansen for following your heart and seeing the need for qualified pet dentists.
June 10 · Doug OdetteThe staff are very kind and knowledgeable. The doctor thoroughly explained the procedure and clearly stated what to expect. The price estimate was accurate. Good communication throughout the whole process. They took good care of my dog and made sure she was comfortable while staying with them for her surgery. They gave us a customized paper bag with my dog’s post-op medication and a list of things to consider while she was recovering. The surgery follow up consultation is free and the doctor set ups a plan to care for your dog's oral health at home.I am glad I brought my dog to get treated at Pet Smiles.
December 30 · Mariana StaffordMy dog recently injured his tooth so I took him to Pet Smiles for a consultation. Dr. Hansen determined his tooth needed to be extracted and provided me with a cost estimate for a "Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment" package of services as one combined fee. I discovered after my pet received these services that my insurance carrier needed a full breakdown of the costs to determine an appropriate reimbursement for services related to the injured tooth because dental scaling and polishing are not covered under my plan. Dr. Hansen and her team outright refused to provide this cost breakdown, claiming their billing system is not set up to do this. I repeatedly sought to get this information, as did a representative of my pet insurance company. Dr. Hansen rudely disregarded my issue and told me I should find another dental provider for my pet if I'm not happy with her billing procedures. Thankfully, the insurance company ultimately provided reimbursement after I submitted a comparable cost estimate from a kinder and more reputable vet who does provide an itemized breakdown for all dental services rendered. Dr. Hansen claims that other area vet dental clinics bill the same way she does. She is wrong. I called several competing practices and each one told me they provide a detailed line item breakdown of all fees because they understand insurance companies require this information and they want to help all of their clients secure the reimbursement they are entitled to receive. Dr. Hansen's overall costs may appear to be more competitive than other dental care providers, but she lacks ethics and basic consideration, understanding, and respect for her clients. I shared my experience with a representative of the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board. Since the Board does not have any way to regulate dental vet billing practices, she encouraged me to warn others about Dr. Hansen via social media. Consider yourself warned.
