For customers in the Pennsylvania region looking for a new pet companion, particularly a cat or kitten, the local, independent pet store model offered a level of vetting and socialization that often results in healthier, more well-adjusted pets. One customer review beautifully encapsulates this value, celebrating a seventeen-year relationship with a cat acquired from the shop—a testament to the quality and care provided at the start of that animal's life.
In an era dominated by large retail chains, the small, community-focused pet store provided a vital, compassionate service. It was a place where staff knew the animals personally, and where the welfare of the "little babies" was a priority until they made it to their "forever home." This deep, ethical, and personal commitment to local pet adoption and supply made Art's Animals & Supplies an invaluable part of the Holmes, PA, community for many years.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Brought our little babies home and they are doing great! They love each other so much and really love snuggling with my kids. Thank you Steve and Cindy and all the staff for caring for these kitties until they make it to their forever home. We are so grateful!
September 11 · Colleen DroxlerEven though this pet shop has since closed, I wanted to say thank you for giving me the sweetest kitty to grow up with for 17 years❤️
January 03 · miranda 00I purchased a kitten from this store for my son on Friday 8/4/17. While in the store, I noticed that there were several kittens, one that was in the cage with the kitten that I purchase, looked to have some type of issues with their eyes. When I questioned what the issue was I was told that the one in the cage has an eye infection that is being treated with eye drops. I immediately questioned if it was contagious considering the older cat in another cage looked to have the same issue but more severe. I was informed that the older cat needed surgery to have its eye removed and it was not the same thing that the smaller kitten had. Due to my suspicion, I took pictures with my phone of the two cats just in case. When I surprised my 9 year old son with kitten, he was ecstatic. By day number two, I noticed that my kitten’s eye was full of puss and he could barely open it. I gave it a couple days to wear off, but it never did. Tuesday 8/8/17 I returned to the store with my kitten to advise them of the situation. They two woman stated that this is a common time for cats to have eye infections and advised me to used warm compresses and gave me drops to use three times a day for three days and stated to follow up with them if there was an issue. I noticed when giving my kitten the drops, the eye would clear up temporarily, but within a couple hours would return to it almost closed puss filled state. By Saturday 8/12/17, my kittens eye was completely shut to the point that I was not even able to give him the drops. On Sunday 8/13/17, I returned to the store with my kitten advising them of the problem. I was told that I can return to kitten and even though I was told that the kitten would not have this issue, I would not get my money back. I requested a manager and was told he was not available until the following day. I forwarded all of the information to my lawyer who advised me to take additional pictures of the remaining cats for sale with the same problem and he will be following up with the store. In the mean time I have contacted channel 3,6,10 and fox news to report this store for selling unhealthy animals without advising the buyer. I will be meeting with them all this week presenting them with the photos in hopes that this store gets shut down. I am also reporting them to the better business bureau, shared all of their negative reviews, and plan on starting a petition ASAP against the store which will also be shared on social media (more details to follow). I believe there were aware of the infection prior to selling me the kitten and issued its drops regularly so that it would look healthy long enough to get a sale. I probably should have read all of the negative reviews before purchasing from this store, maybe I would have not been scammed, but I will make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.
August 14 · T.SimmonsThis store is fabulous! There is apparently new ownership, for the better. I would certainly rather go here than a corporate pet store for crickets for my bearded dragon.. among other things. Also, out of all the pet shops in our area, this one is the nicest hands down.
September 16 · Christine StevensThey are one of the only remaining animal shops aside from the large stores like Petco or Pet Smart. It's a shame b/c there aren't many places to go and just pick up a kitten or puppy and play around with them. Now everything is adoption processes, which are good, but if you just want to get a new pet, you have to go through all this paperwork and other nonsense.
