The Dirty Doodle Introduce
Located at 236 Main St in Stoneham, Massachusetts, The Dirty Doodle is a small business that has become a valuable resource for local pet owners. It is a dual-purpose establishment, functioning as both a pet store and a professional pet groomer. This unique combination allows it to provide a holistic approach to pet care, offering everything from essential supplies to expert grooming services. For residents of Stoneham and the North Shore, The Dirty Doodle offers a personal and convenient alternative to larger, less specialized pet care providers.
The store's identity as a small business is a significant part of its charm. It operates with a hands-on, community-focused approach, aiming to build relationships with its customers and their pets. A first-time customer shared a wonderful experience, noting how the staff member, Sarah, immediately put her at ease, especially since she had just adopted her dog. The personalized care, including a text update and a picture, made a lasting positive impression. This kind of attention to detail and genuine care for the animals is a hallmark of The Dirty Doodle's service.
A key aspect of The Dirty Doodle's business is its grooming service, which is a major draw for many customers. They are known for their ability to handle various breeds and personalities, from senior dogs to newly adopted pups. The staff is consistently described as being great with dogs, and this is crucial for pet owners who may be nervous about leaving their pets in someone else's care. The positive feedback highlights their skill and compassionate approach, ensuring that pets not only look great but also have a positive experience.
However, it is important to note that customer experiences can vary, and The Dirty Doodle has received some mixed feedback. A detailed review from a highly disappointed customer outlined a negative experience with a staff member who allegedly misled them about his grooming capabilities, resulting in a poor-quality haircut for a long-haired husky. The review also mentioned issues with matting, an uneven cut, and a lack of accountability from the employee and the owner. This contrasting experience highlights the importance of clear communication and consistent quality control, particularly in a service-based business like grooming. While this is an isolated incident among the publicly available information, it serves as a reminder for customers to be clear about their expectations and to choose a groomer carefully, especially for pets with specialized grooming needs.
In addition to grooming, The Dirty Doodle also offers a range of pet supplies. While it's known for its services, the retail side of the business provides customers with a curated selection of products. The store is designed for a "quick visit," making it easy for busy Massachusetts residents to grab essentials on the go. This combination of convenience, professional services, and a focused retail offering makes The Dirty Doodle a valuable resource for the Stoneham community. The business's commitment to being a small, authentic establishment is a primary reason why many customers choose to support it.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1First time customer but will absolutely be going back. What a great experience all around. I was nervous leaving my dog as I have just recently adopted him but Sarah put me at ease immediately. She was great with my dog. He looks and smells amazing. Got a wonderful picture and text update of how great he did. Ty very much to the Dirty Doodle!
October 26 · kelly dineenMy experience at this establishment was highly disappointing even though I did receive a full refund, which was greatly appreciated and I felt was deserved. I entrusted my dog's grooming to an employee named Henry, whom I believe misled me regarding his capabilities. When giving specific instructions, Henry admitted he wasn't a professional groomer, but assured me he could handle the job even though I offered to pay a cancellation fee. He said he didn’t want his time wasted and was very persistent that my dog get groomed. He said he would prep my dog for the certified groomer who would be doing the trim at the end.Upon picking up my dog, I was shocked and upset to find that she had received a full haircut instead of the requested trim, which was completely unsuitable for her breed (a woolly husky). The cut penetrated her undercoat which allows her to regulate temperature in the summer. Henry, rather than taking responsibility, argued that I had requested a haircut which was “appropriate for a husky”, which is untrue. Fortunately, the groomer, Karyn, who understood the situation apologized sincerely.Upon closer inspection at home, I discovered that my dog still had matting, had a very uneven haircut, was unexpectedly covered in oil (which was not the case when I dropped her off), and her feet were still dirty,—issues Henry had claimed he would address but did not.Following my initial concerns, I had a phone call with the owner of the Dirty Doodle, which further highlighted their unprofessionalism and unwillingness to accept responsibility for the poor service. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this establishment, particularly for owners of long-haired dogs. It appears they may be better suited for grooming short-haired breeds. I had to get my dog groomed elsewhere same day.
May 06 · Christa DMost accommodating and best team. Amazing people inside and out who truly care about our dog! Couldn’t recommend enough!
August 26 · kayla keatingI take both my Alaskan Malamute and Greater Swiss Mountain dogs to The Dirty Doodle and they do such a great job every time! Henry is super accommodating to dogs that are a bit anxious when they walk in and he gets there early for the dogs. They always come out looking and smelling great! Highly recommend for anyone looking for somewhere that will bathe or groom their pups.
October 27 · Lori Penney Team Blue Real EstateBrought my frenchie in for a nail trim this morning, they told my husband one nail was trimmed too short but wasn’t bleeding, he took their word for it and left, arrived at home to find his shirt and shorts covered in blood, my car covered in blood, and blood soaking thru the dish towels I was trying to use to stop the bleeding and prevent it from covering my home. I brought her back and received a shrug and an offer to bandage it. They again said it wasn’t bleeding when she left but the trail of dried blood across their lobby floor says otherwise. I could hear my girl snarling and growling out back with them as they bandaged it (she’s a puppy, she’s never reacted like this in her life). I know accidents happened but felt this was handled BEYOND poorly and I won’t return.
