This review highlights a strong, positive side of the business. However, another customer had a much less favorable experience, describing the store as "cramped and disorganized" and feeling "unwelcomed." This review mentioned a noisy smoke detector and a seemingly "annoyed" staff member, which made for a less-than-ideal visit. Tropic Island Bird & Supply Reviews
Recently bought a baby Harlequin Macaw from this shop and could not have asked for a better experience. I traveled from Idaho to meet my new flock member and was in awe with how beautiful and healthy he was as well as the store itself. Very reasonable prices for supplies and the owner very clearly had a strong and committed relationship with all of the birds.
January 22 · AmberI do like how it’s in an old house but the space felt cramped and disorganized. At times I felt like I was in a storage unit.I noticed a lot of the shelves had cobwebs In the upper corners. The woman working the desk looked annoyed. The worst was the smoke detector (I guess cos it’s in an old house??) was going off beeping randomly and it seemed to make the birds in the adjoining room really uncomfortable!I didn’t feel welcomed in the store so I didn’t even bother to ask permission to see the poor parrots screeching their heads off in the darkened room to the side. The cockatiel food I bought was at an ok price but I could’ve bought it cheaper at petco. In summary to all bird owners out there GO TO OUR FEATHERED FRIENDS INSTEAD! They treat their birds so much better there and are much more welcoming and professional.
January 21 · Caleb EversonWe we're super disappointed to go all the way there back and forth thinking we were missing it on Voltaire. And the business had moved to La Mesa instead of fixing that on the internet telling them their new address it wouldn't be that difficult they left it that way so sadly they lost our business we got a wonderful beautiful little conure from another bird store in Claremont which was very clean and beautifully taken care of birds.
July 09 · Kat “Kat” HovikI bought my golden conure here a year ago! I can honestly say that comparing to the other two major bird shops in San Diego, their birds are the most socialized and friendly due to how the couple runs the business. It may look less tidy than the bigger facilities but it is also what makes the shop so charming and the birds so tame.
January 26 · KatieI bought a parrot from these breeders 4 years ago, I initially picked out a bird and on pickup day they convinced me to choose a different one. They had assured me the bird had been handled and would acclimate well. The baby parrot was hardly handled at all, and the advice I was given by these guys has only destroyed the love I had for birds. The bird now actively will seek attention only to cause harm to you.I felt pressured to buy the bird from the breeder as they had stated they didn't know what they were going to do during the pandemic. I thought I was buying a lifelong companion and supporting a small business but instead feel as if I've been misled.Ive had birds my whole life thus far and I take responsibility for the training of this bird, but feel the owners could have been more upfront about how they run their breeder business. It's a business. It's for money. Be careful.
