Rivergate Veterinary Clinic Introduce
For pet owners in New York City, finding a veterinary practice that combines a high level of medical expertise with a genuine, compassionate approach is a top priority. Rivergate Veterinary Clinic, located at 403 E 37th St, New York, NY 10016, is an established animal hospital and veterinary pharmacy that has been serving the Midtown East area since 1989. Founded and operated by Dr. Peter Kross, the clinic has built a strong reputation for providing personalized care that extends from a pet's early years to the end of its life. This is not a corporate-owned chain; it's a small, dedicated practice where the head veterinarian's vast experience and hands-on approach are at the core of the service. They offer a full range of medical and surgical care for both dogs and cats, emphasizing preventative care and client education to ensure pets remain healthy and happy. The on-site veterinary pharmacy is a significant convenience, allowing pet owners to fill prescriptions immediately after their visit. The clinic's philosophy is rooted in a deep love for animals, as is evident from the long-term relationships they have built with their clients and their pets. They strive to provide a comprehensive, all-in-one solution for pet health, from routine check-ups and vaccinations to complex surgical procedures, all under one roof.
Customer experiences at Rivergate Veterinary Clinic often reflect the dual nature of any busy, professional practice. The praise for Dr. Peter Kross is profound and consistent. One long-standing client, who has been with the practice for 20 years, refers to him as "an incredible vet, with vast diagnostic experience" and a "most compassionate, kind, warm Dr who gives personalized care at each visit." This kind of loyalty and trust, extending through the care of three different pets, is a powerful endorsement of the doctor's dedication and skill. The client expresses that they would be "lost" without him and are willing to "travel out of my neighborhood to see him." This speaks volumes about the quality of the primary veterinary care provided. On the other hand, another review from a long-standing patient highlights a significant issue with front desk staff communication. This client, who was concerned about their dog eating a raisin, was met with a lack of empathy and a frustratingly unhelpful response from a phone handler. The review underscores the critical importance of a staff that is trained with empathy, especially during moments of pet owner distress. This mixed feedback illustrates the clinic’s strength in its veterinary expertise and medical care, while also pointing to an area where internal consistency in client-facing interactions could be improved. For potential clients, these reviews offer a balanced view: the professional care is exceptional, but proactive communication on their part may be beneficial when dealing with administrative staff.
Located in the bustling Midtown East neighborhood, Rivergate Veterinary Clinic is situated at 403 E 37th St, New York, NY 10016. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I’ve been coming to this practice for 5 years (since my dog was a puppy) and all the vets are wonderful. Never had an issue. Today my dog ate a single raisin and I was very concerned. I called and spoke to someone on the front desk and said ‘Hi I’m probably over reacting but my dog ate a single raisin I’m just wondering what the advice is and whether I should take him to see a vet’ before I’d even finished my sentence she interrupted me and said ‘well, we don’t have anyone available for you today, we have some vets out so you would need to go to the emergency vet’. I said ‘ok, but that isn’t my entire question, is the guidance to go to a vet?’ to which she replied ‘ I hadn’t finished mama, that is up to you. You can monitor him and just see.’How you operate during challenging moments where your patients and owners are distressed is critical. I already knew I could take him to an emergency vet but as a long standing patient of your practice I turned to you first for advice. Your phone handlers should be trained with empathy and care given the nature of your business, I did not receive empathy or care today. My dog is Croquette.
July 26 · Claire LouiseI cannot give enough praise to Dr Peter Kross, the owner and head vet at Rivergate. He is an incredible vet, with vast diagnostic experience in his field and a most compassionate, kind, warm Dr who gives personalized care at each visit. It’s been 20 years as our vet, and now my third pup under his care. His excellent, loving care (and my personal experience) extends from pup to end of life. I can recommend him, without any reservation, and glad to travel out of my neighborhood to see him, and his office is well located and easy to get to. I just hope he has no intentions of retiring any time soon…my pup and I would be lost without him! Thank you, Dr Kross, from the bottom of our hearts 👍🏻🥰
May 21 · Grace ForsterDr. Eve and the staff at Rivergate are a team I will be recommending to everyone. They are so kind. Dr. Eve truly cares about her patients and is so warm and lovely, which is rare to find in a vetrinary staff given that most are a bit cold and desensitized to everything. My girl got mammary tumors removed and I truly felt her in good hands.
January 31 · Johnelle MaysI cannot say enough positive things about Rivergate and Peter Kross. I have been seeing him for all of my furbabies since 1997. Kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, caring and one of the best humans I know. The staff is wonderful as well. Kim, Alex, Leo.. their loyalty to the practice and dedication to the patients is unmatched. Thank you all for all you have done for me and my babies over the last 27 years!
October 21 · Jennifer LarsenAll animal lovers understand: our pets are our world. When I relocated to the area, I needed to find a vet I could trust—especially since my pup has IVDD and requires extra care and attention. From the very first visit to Rivergate, I knew we had found our home.We were paired with Dr. Eve and her vet tech Amanda, and they are nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we stepped through the door, they made both me and my dog feel completely at ease. They meet you exactly where you are—with empathy, calm, and zero judgment. I’ve always struggled to balance being an overprotective “helicopter” dog mom while still letting my pup enjoy his life. Under their guidance, I’ve found the knowledge and confidence to make thoughtful, informed decisions. In the coming months, my pup will undergo surgery to remove a growth on his eyelid—not an emergency, but a proactive step to protect his long-term eye health. Am I nervous? Of course. But with Dr. Eve and Amanda on our team, I feel fully supported. They are responsive, nurturing, incredibly knowledgeable, and I genuinely look forward to our checkups. Peace of mind is priceless, and that’s exactly what they provide. I cannot recommend Rivergate Vet enough.
